Evaluation of QC Value Variation and Overlapping Use According to Aging of 57Co Sealed Source (57Co 밀봉선원의 노후도에 따른 균일도의 변동과 중첩사용에 관한 유용성 평가)

  • Purpose The change in uniformity due to the decreasement in dose should be known. $^{57}Co$ sealed sources are easy to manage and use as QC sources replacing $^{99m}Tc$. Overlapping sealed sources are expected to show variations in dose due to attenuation between sealed sources. Materials and Methods A total of three experiments were conducted. The first experiment is to observe the change in the degree of senescence of the $^{57}Co$ sealed source. The second experiment is to compare the single source and overlaped source at similar doses. In the third experiment, the sources of different doses were compared on each other to determine the changes due to the attenuation between the overlapping sources. Results The results of the first experiment did not exceed the acceptable range. but each crew showed a difference. There was no statistically significant difference in the measurement of uniformity on second and third experiment Conclusion It is believed that a $^{57}Co$ sealed source can be used as a superimposed source. It is not only economical but also convenient to use. daily uniformity measurements will help reduce scan time and speed up the testing process.

Study of the cumulative dental caries rate of pit and fissure sealant in community public health program: 3 years follow-up (3년간 추적연구에 의한 지역사회 치면열구전색사업의 누적치아우식발생률에 관한 연구)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the cumulative dental caries rate of pit and fissure sealant in community public health program from 2005 to 2008 follow-up. Methods: The subjects were 4,768 students of 34 elementary schools in Gimcheon. The survey included direct oral examination and cumulative retention rate of pit and fissure sealant from 2005 to 2008. Data were analyzed using PASW statistical package version 18.0 and the level of significance was set at p<0.05. Results: The cumulative retention rate of sealant was 18%, 25%, and 33% after 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years, respectively. In addition, the cumulative retention rate of lower teeth was higher than that of upper teeth. Cumulative dental caries rate increased in sealed group and no sealed group. The cumulative dental caries rate decreased owing to tooth brushing frequency in sealed group and no sealed group. Conclusions: Regular and timely tooth brushing can maintain good oral health condition after tooth sealing. The school based oral health education can prevent loss of sealant and secondary caries.

  • Technologies related to sealed-type ultrasonic sensors and driving circuit modules for them are the key elements for intelligent robot industry. Those technologies are believed to yield a drastic enhancement of the performance measuring distances in the intelligent robot systems. Modulization technologies of ultrasonic sensors are expected to develop ASIC and MEMS technologies in the future. The size of domestic market for sealed-type ultrasonic sensor modules is expected to grow to 1 billion and 5.72 billion Won by 2008 and 2012, respectively. Recent interest to service robots and government-driven programs are promoting the rapid growth of the market for the service robots. Successful application of the sealed-type ultrasonic modules to the service robots is expected to replace the conventional photo-sensors in a near future.

Manufacturing of Ni-63 Sealed Source for Betavoltaic Battery Using the Small-scale Electroplating Device (소형 전기도금장치를 이용한 베타전지용 Ni-63 밀봉선원 제작)

  • The small-scale electroplating device was designed and fabricated for Ni-63 sealed source (foil type) with a high specific activity needed for production of betavoltaic battery. The condition of Ni electroplating was optimized by using fabricated electroplating device to establish a Ni-63 electroplating condition on the Ni foil. The results showed that the optimum surface morphology and thickness of Ni deposit was obtained for 1,758 seconds at a current density of $15mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ with 0.5% tween 20. Radioisotope Ni-63 electroplating was implemented under established condition. The radioactivity of Ni-63 sealed source was calculated to $28mCi{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, and the thickness of Ni-63 deposit was about $2.4{\mu}m$.

The effect of blast-induced vibration on the stability of underground water-sealed gas storage caverns

  • Underground water-sealed gas storage caverns have become the primary method for strategic storage of LPG. Previous studies of excavation blasting effects on large-scale underground water-sealed gas storage caverns are rare at home and abroad. In this paper, the blasting excavation for underground water-sealed propane storage caverns in Yantai was introduced and field tests of blasting vibration were carried out. Field test data showed that the horizontal radial velocity had a major controlling effect in the blasting vibration and frequencies would not cause the vibration velocity concentration effects. In terms of the influence of blasting vibration on adjacent caverns, the dynamic finite element model in LS-DYNA soft was established, whose reliability was verified by field test data. The numerical results indicated the near-blasting side was primary zone for the structural failure and tensile failure tended to occur in the middle of the curved wall on the near-blasting side. Meanwhile, the safety criterions for adjacent caverns based on stress wave theory and according to statistic relationship between peak effective tensile stress and peak particle velocities were obtained, respectively. Finally, with Safety Regulations for Blasting in China (GB6722-2014) taken into account, a final safety criterion was proposed.

  • Borehole Disposal Concept (BDC) was initiated by the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA) with the view to improve the radioactive waste management practices in Africa. At a time when geological disposal of radioactive waste is being considered, the need to protect ground water from possible radioactive contamination and the investigation of radionuclides migration through soil and rocks of zone of aeration into ground water has becomes very imperative. This is why the Borehole Disposal Concept (BDC) is being suggested to address the problem. The concept involves the conditioning and emplacement of disused sealed radioactive sources in an engineered facility of a relatively narrow diameter borehole (260 mm). Tanzania is operating a Radioactive Waste Management Facility where a number of spent sealed radioactive sources with long and short half lives are stored. The activity of spent sealed radioactive sources range from (1E-6 to 8.8E+3 Ci). However, the long term disposal solution is still a problem. This study therefore proposing the country to adopt the BDC, since the repository requires limited land area and has a low probability of human intrusion due to the small footprint of the borehole.

Effect of carbonated water manufactured by a soda carbonator on etched or sealed enamel

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of carbonated water on etched or sealed enamel according to the carbonation level and the presence of calcium ions. Methods: Carbonated water with different carbonation levels was manufactured by a soda carbonator. Seventy-five premolar teeth were randomly divided into a control group and 4 experimental groups in accordance with the carbonation level and the presence of calcium ions in the test solutions. After specimen preparation of the Unexposed, Etched, and Sealed enamel subgroups, all the specimens were submerged in each test solution for 15 minutes three times a day during 7 days. Microhardness tests on the Unexposed and Etched enamel subgroups were performed with 10 specimens from each group. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) tests on the Unexposed, Etched, and Sealed enamel subgroups were performed with 5 specimens from each group. Microhardness changes in different groups were statistically compared using paired t-tests, the Wilcoxon signed rank test, and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The microhardness changes were significantly different between the groups (p = 0.000). The microhardness changes in all experimental groups except Group 3 (low-level carbonated water with calcium ions) were significantly greater than those in the Control group. SEM showed that etched areas of the specimen were affected by carbonated water and the magnitude of destruction varied between groups. Adhesive material was partially removed in groups exposed to carbonated water. Conclusions: Carbonated water has negative effects on etched or sealed enamel, resulting in decreased microhardness and removal of the adhesive material.

  • To build tetrahedra mesh for FEM numerical analysis, Boundary Representation (B-Rep) model is required, which provides the efficient volume description of an object. In engineering, the parametric solid modeling method is used for building B-Rep model. However, a geological modeling generally adopts discrete modeling based on the triangulated surface, called a Sealed Geological Model, which defines geological domain by using geological interfaces such as horizons, faults, intrusives and modeling boundaries. Discrete B-Rep model is incompatible with mesh generation softwares in engineering because of discrepancies between discrete and parametric technique. In this research we have developed a converting program from Sealed Geological Model to Gmsh and COMSOL software. The developed program can convert complex geological model built by geomodeling software to user-friendly FEM software and it can be applied to geoscience simulation such as geothermal, mechanical rock simulation etc.

Suggestion of the Prediction Model for Material Properties and Creep of 60~80MPa Grade High Strength Concrete (설계기준강도 60~80MPa급 고강도콘크리트의 재료 특성 및 크리프 예측모델식 제안)

  • The construction of super tall building which structure is RC and must be certainly considered on column shortening estimation and construction reflected concrete creep has been increased. Regarding the Fck 60~80MPa grade high strength concrete applied in the domestic super tall building project, the mechanical properties and creep deflection according to curing conditions(Drying creep/Basic creep) were reviewed in this research. Results of compressive strength and elastic modulus under sealed curing condition were 5% higher than unsealed condition and difference of results according to the curing condition was increased over time. Autogenous and drying shrinkage tendency showed adversely in the case of high strength concrete. Additionally, creep modulus under unseal curing condition was evaluated 2~3 times higher than sealed condition. Modified model of ACI-209 based on test result was applied to estimate long period shortening of vertical members(such as Core Wall/Mega Column) exactly, it is designed to modify and suggest the optimal creep model based on various data accumulated during construction, in the future.
