Oxygen consumption of marine fishes according to different water temperatures, fish population densities and body weights was measured in the respiratory chamber for the following six species: the olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus, the tiger puffer Takifugu rubripes, the rockfish Sebastes schlegeli, the sea bass Lateolabrax Japonicus, the red seabream Pagrus major and the black seabream Acanthopagrus schlegeli. Also the lethal concentration of dissolved oxygen in them was determined. Oxygen consumption in each fish species increased as the water temperature increased. The relationship between the oxygen consumption rate $(Oc,\;ml/kg{\cdot}\;hr)$ and the water temperature (T,$^{\circ}C$) for each species appeared as the following equations demonstrate; olive flounder: Oc=34.0515T-339.5987 $(r^2=0.9730)$, tiger puffer: Oc=34.4941T-479.8732 $(r^2=0.9483),$ rockfish: Oc=44.7970T-634.2627 $(r^2=0.9718),$ sea bass: Oc=26.1488T-318.0633 $(r^2=0.9316),$ red seabream: Oc=61.1020T-722.8926 $(r^2= 0.9805),$ black seabream: Oc=75.1460T-947.9370 $(r^2=0.9392).$ The of gen consumption of fish with different population densities decreased as the number of fish increased. As the body weight of the olive flounder increased, the mass-specific oxygen consumption decreased. The relationship between oxygen consumption and body weight (W; g) was expressed as Oc=2532.0268W-0.6565 $(r^2=0.9229)$. The levels of lethal dissolved oxygen in the olive flounder, rockfish, tiger puffer and red seabream were 0.66, 0.79, 0.75 and 1.36 m1/1, respectively.

A $3{\times}3$ factorial study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary protein and lipid levels on the growth, feed utilization and innate immunity of red seabream Pagrus major. Nine diets consisting of three protein levels (42%, 46% and 50% crude protein) and three lipid levels (10%, 14% and 18% crude lipid) were formulated. Triplicate groups of red seabream were fed the experimental diets to apparent satiation (5-6 times a day, from 08:00 to 18:00 h at 2-h intervals) for 10 weeks. At the end of the feeding trial, the weight gain and specific growth rate of fish fed P46L14 (46% protein and 14% lipid), P50L10 (50% protein and 10% lipid) and P50L14 (50% protein and 14% lipid) were significantly (P<0.05) higher than those of fish fed P42L18 (42% protein and 18% lipid). The feed conversion ratios (FCR) of the fish were affected by dietary lipid levels (P<0.039), but not dietary protein levels. The FCR tended to increase with increasing dietary lipid levels from 10% to 18% with the 46% and 50% protein levels. The weight gain, protein efficiency ratio, specific growth rate, feed intake and survival of fish were not affected by either dietary protein or lipid levels. Myeloperoxidase activity in the group fed P50L14 (50% protein and 14% lipid) was significantly higher than that in the group fed P42L10 (42% protein and 10% lipid) or P50L18 (50% protein and 18% lipid). However, the myeloperoxidase activity of fish was not affected by either dietary protein or lipid level. The fish fed P46L14 (46% protein and 14% lipid) and P46L18 (46% protein and 18% lipid) showed significantly higher superoxide dismutase activity than did the fish fed P46L10 (46% protein and 10% lipid), P50L10 (50% protein and 10% lipid) of P50L18 (50% protein and 18% lipid). In conclusion, the optimum protein and lipid levels for the growth and feed utilization of juvenile red seabream were 46% and 14%, respectively, and the optimum dietary protein to energy ratio was 27.4 g/MJ.
Bioactivity growth and survival rte of yolk sac larvae in cultured black seabream (Acanthopogrus schlegeli) red seabream (Pagrus major) and olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) to 5 different concentration (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) of water soluble fraction (WSF) of Kuwait crude oil were studied. The 75% and 100% of WSF concentration influenced negatively on the length growth of larvae in each species so the growth rates of total length in the concentration of WSF were significantly lower than those of control. The high concentration (50%, 75%, and 100%) of WSF influenced negatively not only on the swimming frequency and speed but also on the morphological abnormality of larvae. Red seabream larvae showed the highest rate of abnormality by WSF among the tested fishes. The fish larvae exposed during pre-and post-hatch (egg and larval stages) and during post-hatch (larval stage only) to the WSF were significantly influenced on their survival rate. The larvae of red seabream were more sensitive to WSF than those of black seabream and olive flounder. The survival rates of larvae exposed to higher concentration (50%, 75%, and 100%) of WSF were significantly lower than those of the control but those of the 25% group were not.
The present study investigated the survival rate, respiration rate, plasma stress index, and histological changes according to exposure time of cultured red seabream (Pagrus major) and olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) exposed to Cochlodinium polykrikoides red tide. Fish cultured in natural seawater were used as the control group. Cochlodinium polykrikoides density was set to 5,500±200 cells·ml-1 in the experimental groups. All red seabreams died within 1 hour of exposure to red tide, whereas all olive flounders died within 5 hours of exposure. Analysis of physiological response revealed that in red seabream, plasma glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) concentrations were increased; plasma glucose and superoxide dismutase (SOD) concentration were decreased. Meanwhile, in olive flounders, plasma cortisol, GOT, and GPT concentrations were increased; plasma glucose concentrations were increased during the first hour of exposure, followed by decrease after 5 hours; and plasma SOD, CAT, and GPx concentrations decreased during the first hour of exposure. Histological analysis revealed structural damage to the gills of both red seabream and olive flounder. In conclusion, the exposure of red seabream and olive flounder to Cochlodinium polykrikoides red tide at the density of 5,500 cells·ml-1 induces oxidative stress, which activates antioxidant defense mechanisms, ultimately leading to liver and gill damage.

This paper describes about the behavior of the lseraeli carp (Cyprinus cartio. body length 43cm) and the Red seabream (Chrysophrys major. body length 35cm) aquacultured by telemetry techniques. The telemetry system consists of a pinger of 50kHz, three omni-directional hydrophones and ultrasonic receivers, a single board computer for the signal processing, two RF transceivers for the data communication, and a personnel computer. Those fish tagged the pingers were tracked by the LBL method, and its location was calculated by the hyperbolic method. The average speed of the lsraeli carp was about 1.0 times of the body length in a farming water tank (24$\times$24$\times$1m), and the Red seabream 1.3 times of the body length in a farming raft (10$\times$10$\times$5m). A variation of the speed of the lsraeli carp was higher than the other one.
Exposure experiments during the egg development were conducted to assess the influences of 5 different concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) of water-soluble fraction (WSF) of Kuwait crude oil on the eggs and larvae of black seabream (Acanthopagrus schlegeli), red seabream (Pagrus major) and olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). All experiments were triplicated. Hatching time and hatching rate were examined on the eggs. The median lethal time ($LT_{50}$), morphological abnormality and swimming activity (swimming frequency and speed) of larvae were also investigated. The time and rate of egg hatching were not significantly influenced by WSF on the eggs of the fishes. The larvae exposed to WSF during the egg development were also not significantly influenced on the $LT_{50}$ and swimming activity. But the higher morphological abnormalities of notochord were observed from the larvae in 100% WSF exposure.
