Mass Flow Rate Measurement of Pulsating Flow in a Twin-Scroll Turbocharger (트윈스크롤 터보과급기에서 맥동유동의 질량유량 측정)

  • Turbochargers are an effective device to reduce the fuel consumption. In this study, the mass flow rate of pulsating flow in the twin-scroll turbocharger for the gasoline engine of passenger vehicles was measured. Pulsating flow was achieved using a pulse generator and the mass flow rate of the unsteady pulsating flow was analyzed by comparing it with those of the steady flow. The pulse generator consisted of a rotating upper plate and a fixed lower plate. To measure the mass flow rate of unsteady flow, the orifice flow meter equipped with the difference pressure transducer was used. To analyze the low speed performance of the turbocharger, the measurement was carried out in the speed of turbocharger from 60,000rpm to 100,000rpm. The mass flow parameters of the unsteady pulsating flow showed a large difference compared to those of the steady flow. Those of the unsteady flow showed the hysteresis loop surrounding the mass flow parameters of the steady flow and the maximum variation of the mass flow parameters were 5.0 times those of the steady flow. This phenomenon is the result of the filling and emptying the turbine volute space due to pulsating flow.

  • Turbocharging is becoming a key technology for both diesel and gasoline engines. Regarding gasoline engines, turbocharging can help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions when used in conjunction with other technologies. This paper presents measurements of the turbine efficiency of pulsating flow in a twin-scroll turbocharger for gasoline engines. A cold gas test bench with a pulse generator was manufactured. The turbine efficiencies were calculated using the measured data of the instantaneous pressure and temperature of the inlet and exit of the turbine. The measurements were carried out at turbine speeds from 60,000 to 100,000 rpm under a pulsating flow of 25.0 Hz and 33.0 Hz. The turbine efficiencies ranged from 0.517 to 0.544. At the pulse frequency, 33.3 Hz, the variations in efficiency were 7.7% and 2.6% at turbine speeds of 60,000 rpm and 100,000 rpm, respectively. The turbine efficiency of the pulsating flow compared to those of steady flow was 7.0% and 3.0% lower at a turbine speed of 60,000 rpm and 100,000 rpm, respectively. The pulsating flow deteriorated the turbine efficiency, but the effects of pulsating flow decreased with increasing turbine speed.

Characteristies of the background fabric and coloring of "Buseoksa Temple Gwaebul" in the possession of the National museum of Korea (국립중앙박물관 소장 <부석사 괘불>의 바탕직물과 채색 특성)

  • The "Buseoksa Temple Gwaebul" (1684, K969) in the possession of the National Museum of Korea is a large Buddhist hanging scroll produced for outdoor rituals (gwaebul) at the eponymous temple. The painting demonstrates the most complex composition among the existing Buddhist hanging scrolls as it depicts the Shakyamuni Buddha in the lower middle, surrounded by the Vairocana Buddha, Medicine Buddha, and Amitabha Buddha. This study examines the characteristics of the background fabric and the production methods of the scroll from Buseoksa Temple and explores the characteristics of the coloring techniques by integrating the results of a non-destructive analysis to determine the materials used for coloring. The gwaebul comprises a total of 13 panels, with 11 panels arranged side by side and one panel each added to the top and bottom. The background fabric of the painting consist of semi-transparent silk tabby for the nine panels in the center, and silk tabby for the four panels surrounding the four sides. The coloring materials used to paint the scroll were analyzed using X-ray fluorescence, and were confirmed to be inorganic pigments of red, yellow, green, blue, and white. For some parts painted in yellow and blue, the colors were expressed by first applying light white pigment before adding organic pigments. In addition, ink was used for the black lines and gold leaf was used for the patterns of the Buddhist robes. X-ray irradiation enabled the determination of the location and technique of coloring according to each pigment color by highlighting the difference in brightness depending on the main component and the thickness of each pigment.

  • For a nondegenerate projective curve C ⊂ ℙr of degree d, it was shown that the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity reg(C) of C is at most d - r + 2. And the curves of maximal regularity which attain the maximally possible value d - r + 2 are completely classified. In this short note, we first collect several known results about curves of maximal regularity. We provide a new proof and some partial results. Finally we suggest some interesting questions.

  • A volute (or scroll) of a centrifugal compressor collects the flows from impeller or diffuser, and passes it to a pipe at the exit. This flow still contains some kinetic energy which is not converted into pressure at diffuser, thus volute designer must concern the way to minimize losses. This study defines some variables which determine the shape of volute, and carry out computational analysis based on Design of Experiment to optimize the performance of volute.

Auto-Scrolling Prompter System using Speech Recognition Technology (음성인식 기반의 자동 프롬프터 시스템)

  • A prompter software is used, behind the camera, to scroll the script for a TV narrator. So far it has been manually operated by an assistant, who scrolls the caption following narrator's speech. Automating this procedure using a speech recognition technology has been investigated in this project. The developed auto-scrolling software was tested in offline and online, which shows performance good enough to replace an existing prompter software. This paper describes the whole development process and concerns to be cared.

Spectrums of Chua's Oscillator Circuit with a Cubic Nonlinear Resistor (Cubic 비선형 저항에 의한 카오스 발진회로의 스펙트럼)

  • This paper describes implementation and simulation of Chua's oscillator circuits with a cubic non-linear resistor. The two-terminal nonlinear resistor NR consists of one Op Amp two multipliers and five resistors. The Chua's oscillator circuit is implemented with analog electronic devices. Period-1 limit cycle period-2 limit cycle period-4 limit cycle and spiral attractor double-scroll attractor and 2-2 window are observed experimentally from the laboratory model and simulated by computer for the presented model. Comparing the result of experiments and simulations the spectrums are satisfied.

  • In this study, we investigate the curvature functions of ruled surface with lightlike ruling for a null curve with Cartan frame in Minkowski 3-space. Also, we give relations between the curvature functions of this ruled surface and curvature functions of central normal surface. Finally, we use the curvature theory of the ruled surface for determine differential properties of a robot end-effector motion.
