  • Carisoprodol(CSP), commonly prescribed as a skeletal muscle relaxant, is increasingly abused among young people for a recreational purpose in Korea. CSP may induce hallucination if it were ingested with large amounts, futhermore a carisoprodol overdose is considered fatal. Recently, we encountered overdoses of carisoprodol in 6 suicide cases. • This paper describes a cause of fire accidents on power system fire DC electric traction vehicles. We investigated fire scene of power line for DC electric traction vehicles. From analysis results, the cause of fire on power line turned out line to ground fault between a feeder of electric power services(pantagraph) and DC electric traction vehicle roof. Fire accident of DC electric traction vehicles be assumed that electric sparks had been produced between the pantagraph and the power line conductor by repetitively making contact and separation, maybe if some material like branches get in between connecting rod it makes progress line to ground fault. ZnO arresters are widely used to protect DC electric traction vehicles against overvoltages caused by lightning or switching surges. However, the arresters are deteriorated by commercial overvoltages and/or lightning one. The deteriorated arresters could lead power failures, such as line to ground fault by a thermal runaway resulting from the increases in leakage current even in a nominal power system voltage. Finally, the power failures would be causative of the fire accident.

  • We performed nuclear DNA typing and mitochondrial DNA sequencing analysis based on PCR from an ancient Korean remainsexcavated from Siheung in Korea. 7 bones were collected and partially STR(short tandem repeat) systems, Sex determination Amelogenin kit(Promega co, USA), were used in this study. Mitochondrial DNAs were also amplified and sequenced by ABI 310 DNA sequencer. We know that sample no. 2 and no. 3 were females and also sample no. 2 and no.7 possessed the same maternal inheritance by mitochondrial DNA sequencing results. Throughout this research, the mitochondrial DNA sequencing of human in the middle of Joseon Dynasty in Korea is obtained. In addition, this finding will be an important foundation for the future research.

  • Hair analysis for drugs of abuse offers the crucial potential advantage when compared to urine, such as the longer time window of drug intake, which makes retrospective investigation of chronic and/or past consumption. This paper reviews the physiological basis of hair growth, mechanism of drug incorporation, analytical methods, result interpretation and practical application of hair analysis. Moreover, to facilitate the court's decision regarding specific circumstances surrounding the crime, this review demonstrated that the results of hair analysis not only should be admitted as scientific evidence of drug use but also could legally improve reliability of the evidence.

  • A Recently elevator accidents were occurred and increased due to carelessness of user and violent behavior. The accident of door detachment in elevator platform by electronic motor scooter show a example of safety concerns and insensibility for safety awareness. In this report, we review the cause of accident of door detachment in elevator platform by electronic motor scooter, and show some suggestions of preventing from the safety concerns about this case.

  • The bus using compressed natural gas(CNG) trend to be extended in use internationally as optimal counter-plan for reducing discharge gas of light oil due to high concern about environment. But, Composit pressure vessels(CPV) to be equipped with CNG bus is always involved in the point that safety accidents happen due to having compressed natural gas. In this report, we analysis the cause of CPV bursting accident by reviewing design and manufacture factor and suggest preventive measure through this case.

  • Hydrogen cyanide is one of the toxic agents with carbon monooxide in fire victims and is released by combustion of nitrogen-containing organic material such as plastic and wool. Until now there are few reports about blood cyanide concentrations in fatalities by fire in Korea. So in this study we examined blood cyanide concentration in 12 cases of fire fatalities. (omitted)
