  • This paper have been knowing about policy background about Computer Science Education in UK. Every schools in UK have been teaching Computing as a subject matter from september, 2014. Department of Education in UK had replacement ICT to Computing subject. The institute have accepted that problems about ICT subject which school teacher recognised and the needs of academic sector, and the entrepreneur's needs for talented person of 21st century. We have known that Computing at School(CAS) had started grass root organization, which had been trying to changing the computer science curriculum. In the processes, it was corporation very closely among organizations, such as government, universities, entrepreneurs, awarding bodies for evaluation, and non-profit initiatives. Through this research, we have get some lessons for advancing of software education in South Korea.

  • For this study, we reviewed theoretical background of STEAM education and domestic and international case studies in STEAM education. By doing so, we developed and applied the STEAM Education Program through the use of Scratch. This program is designed for the 3rd and 4th lesson of 6th graders' science in elementary school. As a result, the creativity index and positive attitude about science of the students who went through the researched program increased with meaningful difference compared to that of the sample population. The result of this study shows that the STEAM Education Program, using Scratch, can improve creativity. And it is sure that it brings positive changes for the science-related affective domains.

  • This study was conducted to explore the direction of culinary education based brain-based education with analysis of comprehensive research. Questionnaire was completed by frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis and regression analysis by using SPSS 21. The purpose of this study was to investigate the educational system for creative development through cooking sources and to develop brain-based learning theory, and thus to generate the characteristics and effects of the practice in culinary educational context. The basic principles of brain- based learning are brain plasticity, emotional brain, and ecological brain. Students need to be able to enrich their understanding of social interaction so that social brain's function will be activated through consistent and high-quality feedback. Likewise, students should be capable of collecting everything what they have learned. Defining main ideas and goal of the lesson, four factors were derived from development of competency, personality, application, and diversity. Regarding to the result of this study, the implications for the development of a brain-base program were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the duties of teachers working at secondary level technical vocational education institutes, and analyze job importance, difficulty and frequency of performance perceived by teachers. For deducing the duties of teachers working at secondary level technical vocational education institutes, they were theoretically devised by reviewing related legislations & regulations and domestic & overseas literatures. The devised duties were reviewed by 16 current teachers and 3 education experts to be revised and supplemented to complete the job model. Based on this, development of research tool was finalized, and questionnaires were used as the research tool. The results of this study are as follow. First, the job categories of teachers working at secondary level technical vocational education institutes consisted of 7 categories that are subject instruction, student instruction, class management, curriculum organization & administration, school affairs & administrative duties, PR & field practical training and expertise enhancement. Based on the CFA, they consisted of 46 sub-factors in 10 categories with 3 categories of lesson preparation & planning, lesson administration and academic evaluation for subject instruction, and 2 categories of extracurricular student guidance and school life guidance for student instruction, and class management, curriculum organization & administration, school affairs & administrative duties, PR & field practical training and expertise enhancement. Second, job importance perceived by teachers working at secondary level technical vocational education institutes was found to be high overall with 4.10, while above average in difficulty with 3.45 and average in frequency of performance with 3.12 (1-3 times a month). As for categories with high job importance, they were found to be in the order of academic evaluation (4.32), lesson preparation & planning (4.28), expertise enhancement (4.27), lesson administration (4.26), school life guidance (4.25), class management (4.17) and PR & field practical training (4.12). In regards to categories with high job difficulty, they were found to be in the order of PR & field practical training (4.07), curriculum organization & administration (3.73), expertise enhancement (3.55), school life guidance (3.48), academic evaluation (3.35) and extracurricular student guidance (3.22). As for categories with high frequency of job performance, they were found to be in the order of class management (3.88), lesson administration (3.77), school life guidance (3.52), school affairs & administrative duties (3.40) and lesson preparation & planning (3.17).

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the illustrations used in elementary science textbooks of Korea and BSCS in USA, and analyze the types, role, and characteristics of the illustrations. For the analysis, we used 8 elementary science textbooks of the 7th curriculum of science education in Korea from 3rd through 6th grade, and 16 volumes (stage 2 to stage 5) used in BSCS in USA. We examined types of illustrations, including photograph, picture, graphic, cartoon, chart, and their 4 roles such as, motivation, introducing the lesson activity, providing the materials, presenting the learning result. The results were as follows: First, Korean textbooks have more "photograph" type of illustration than BSCS. In BSCS textbooks, diverse types of illustrations were used compared to Korean textbooks. Second, large portion of illustrations in Korean textbooks took a role of providing materials. In BSCS textbooks, the roles of illustrations were more diverse. In BSCS, there were many illustrations to describe students working together with the disabled children, and to explicitly encourage cooperative learning. Considering the findings in this study, educational implications were discussed.

  • The study presents preliminary research on how science activities focusing on problem recognition worked and affected students' perception of their learning environment in a sixth science classroom. The science activities were based on the Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) which was suggested by Keys, Hand, Prain & Collins (1999), where problem recognition was an important part of scientific inquiry. For developing the working sheets for the modified SWH in this study, analyses of target units of 6th grade science curriculum in the aspects of problem recognition were conducted. After consecutive 6 classes with the developed working sheets for sixth graders, the student working sheets for each lesson were collected and analyzed. In order to investigate the developed units' affect on student learning, students' perceptions of their learning environment were administered before and after the applied classes. Students working sheets and questionnaires on their perceptions of learning environment indicated that students perceived that the science activities were more student-centered classes where students had active discussion and dialogue with one another giving them more chances to actively take part in the class as well as they used more properly recognized their inquiry problem.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of forth grades in elementary the environmental-friendly attitude by STSE in elementary lesson. To verify research problem, the subject of this study were forth-grade students selected from two classes of an elementary school located in Ulsan. Post-test showed following results: the research group showed a significant improvement in the environment-friendly attitude of cognitive domain and behavior domain compared with the comparison group. In conclusion, STSE program was more effective than the teacher map based teaching model on environment-friendly attitude. However, since the study has a limit on an objet of the study and the applied curriculum, the additional studies need to be conducted with an extended comparative group and curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of jigsaw cooperative learning strategy on elementary students' task commitment and creative personality. This study utilized experimental method of comparing the effect of jigsaw strategy between treatment and comparative group. Twenty four 6th grade students in treatment group experienced the jigsaw cooperative learning for twelve-weeks during 2019 school year whereas students in comparetive group did not. Task commitment and creative personality test result were collected from both groups as main data sources and mixed-method was used to analyze the data. The results of the study were as follows. First, the treatment group students' task commitment score was significantly higher than comparative group of students' score(p<.05). Second, the treatment group students' creative personality efficacy score was significantly higher than comparative group students' (p<.05). Third, students who experienced the jigsaw cooperative learning-based science lesson had positive perceptions about the lesson.
