Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires from 265 nursing students in D city. Measures were ego resilience, problem solving process and clinical competency. Data was analyzed using frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, person's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 19.0 version. Result: The Ego resilience score of subjects was 2.80 out of a perfect score of 4, the problem solving process score of subjects was 3.12, and the clinical competency score of subjects was 3.49 out of a perfect score of 5. There was a significant positive correlation among ego resilience, problem solving process and clinical competency. The significant predictors of problem solving process and clinical competency were ego resilience. Conclusion: These findings indicate that there is a need to increase ego resilience to improve the problem solving process and clinical competency of nursing students. The results should be reflected in the development of effective curricula.

  • The early childhood education in Korea has made a great progress during the last thirty years. However, understanding the early childhood education is a challenging task because of the diversity of the fields. Currently 38% of 3-5 year old children are enrolled in kindergarten. And several efforts to develop and distribute the standard curricula on a national level were underwent successfully. Researches are rapidly expanding in volume and the topics are becoming diverse. Focuses of researches moved from the area of cognitive development, science and mathematics in 80s, social and emotional aspects in 90s to language, curriculum and teacher education in 2000s. One of the emerging issues is the inclusion of kindergarten to public education system and free kindergarten education for young children. The second issues is more interdisciplinary policies are in need related to the low-birth rate in nation. The third one is about teacher training policy. • Purpose: This study presents the current status of transcultural nursing education in nursing baccalaureate programs. Methods: The nursing curricula from 185 out of 194 nursing colleges that received accreditation were collected and analyzed. Results: 109 (58.9%) nursing colleges offered 117 transcultural nursing-related courses. The courses were offered as elective (68.4%) as well as major (78.6%) courses. All courses were offered as a theoretical delivery class without any field experiences. The courses were offered mainly for sophomore (41.9%) and freshman students (33.3%), and most of them (79.5%) were two-credit courses. Instead of the term "transcultural nursing," "multicultural nursing" is mostly used in the title of courses. An inconsistency between the title of courses and their content was found. After analyzing the title of courses based on four nursing meta-paradigms, courses related to the environment were most common (41.9%). Conclusion: Transcultural nursing education has developed during the last decade. However, teaching methods and course content have not developed enough. Thus, a greater effort is needed to increase awareness of the importance of transcultural nursing education and to develop courses for it.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest a moving-forward solution to the menu development of traditional foods from the analyses results, by surveying 180 college students with food majors in order to identify what effects the acceptability of traditional foods bring to menu development and their correlations. As the result showed, the acceptability of Korean traditional foods was lowering generally due to the popularity of light meals like fast food. Nevertheless, college students with majors of foodservice, cooking and foods than the students with other majors chose one-dish meals and the kinds of soup and pot stews as a favorite food more in terms of curiosity and taste, by which they were implied to have been positioned as popular foods as such. Accordingly, in order to raise the acceptability of traditional foods among other students more when the college students with food majors get related jobs in future, the development of related curricula mainly focused on simplification and standardization in menu combination is more weighted than anything else.

  • Computers are played an important tole of knowledge-information society in 21C. Computer education have made successful progresses since the 7th curricula have one class of ICT per week. However, public schools have instructed computer literacy education teaching only how to use application software. To give useful knowledges students could use for several decades, we need to have them to concentrate on education to information logical thinking power rather than simple manipulation of application softwares. However, teachers don't understand well about the "Understanding of Information Processing". In this paper, we carried out a survey that how much teachers understand about the information processing comprehension among the information and communication technology guide. We also state problems and propose improvement plan.

  • With the emphasis on core competencies, the University of Seoul has exerted efforts to reflect the importance of core competencies in university curricula. The main assessment tool used in Korea is the Korea Collegiate Essential Skills Assessment (K-CESA), developed by the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET). This study examined whether core competencies measured using K-CESA are valid as a tool for assessing educational achievements among college students, and analyzed the correlation between K-CESA scores and course grades. The analysis was performed on approximately 204 engineering students at the University of Seoul. According to the correlation analysis between core competencies and courses, MSC courses were shown to be related to the resource and through information use competency and higher order thinking competency. Through the Analysis of Variance, students in the accreditation programs and students living in urban area showed higher competency scores. In the multiple regression, it was shown that Accreditation and MSC courses grades were the important variables to predict the competency of the students. Based on these findings, we confirmed that the K-CESA tool has a certain level of correlation with academic performance and that it functions as one of several ways to evaluate the program outcomes of engineering education accreditation.
