  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of Learning Cycle approach to change the concept of density. The results of the study were as follows : 1) Students already had various types of preconception related to density before formal learning. These preconceptions mostly differ from scientific concepts. 2) Male students were much better than female ones in the development of scientific concepts before formal learning. These differences were found statistically significant(P<0.01). 3) The higher the cognitive level of the students, the better the development of scientific concepts. 4) In the change of preconceptions to scientific concepts by treatment, there was significant difference between control group and experimental group at the 0.05 level. It was found that Learning Cycle approaches were more effective than traditional approaches in acquiring the concept of density. 5) It was found that there was no significant difference On the retention level of the concept of density between control group and experimental group.

  • This paper describes system technical requirement development process from operational concept using computer-aided Systems Engineering tool(CASysE Tool-CORE). The army tactical missile system-ATACMS's technical requirements are developed by the process as a case-study The scope of the work is context analysis and requirement definition process. The proposed process is as follows. At first, an integrated architecture could be developed from the operational concept. From the integrated architecture a capability needs, which includes KPPs, are generated. And the capability needs expanded according to the Mil-Std-961D format. Lastly, a system technical requirement could be generated automatically from the CASysE Tool-CORE.

  • The range profile is easily obtainable and promising feature vector in the aspect of real-time radar target recognition system. However, the range profile is highly dependent on a aspect angle of a target and this dependence make it difficult the recognition over wide-angular region. In this paper, we propose the classifier with subclass concept in order to solve this dependence problem. Recognition results using six aircraft models measured at compact range facility are presented to show the effectiveness of this proposed classifier over wide-angular region.

  • The present study aims at figuring out the potential benefits occured from the practical pplications of the information analysis center concept in Korea. The R&D requirements in Korea at the moment is such that the highly specialized and sophisticated information services are essential. With the general information infrastructure still embryonic the best possible answer is sought in a specialized tried-out method, namely, the information analysis center which is to be planned and serviced as an integral part of a specific research project. The article examines the information exchange activities of scientists; the backgrounds of the development of the information analysis center concept into 'a technical institute'; the processess of information analyses and evaluations; the effects and values of an analysis center; and the applicabilities of the information analysis center concept with a special regard to the developing country's needs. The conclusion confirms of the potential benefits of the information analysis center type facilities for the current needs of the Korean research and development environments.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the relation of peer group caring interaction, Professional self-concept, and Nurses' Retention. The subjects of this study are 133 nurses who have worked for more than three months at five general hospitals with more than 300 beds in S city. As a result of the study, nurses' retenstion was higher than those of under 25 years of age between 30 and 35(F=3.313, p=.039).The professional self-concept of hospital nurses has been identified as an influence factor of intent to serve. Professional self-concepts have been shown to be better with higher peer-care and consideration(r=.397, P=.004). The peer group caring interaction behavior can occur not only between colleagues but also between managers. Therefore, it is necessary to proceed with the manager's group caring interaction as a follow-up study.

  • Purpose: Loneliness is an extremely subjective experience that is influenced by life experiences and circumstances. This study attempted to provide basic data for the development of nursing intervention strategies to understand the concept of loneliness and to reduce loneliness on various topics. Methods: The research analysis method is based on the framework of concept analysis proposed by Walker and Avant (1988). Results: The results of this study are as follows: 1) Self-alienation 2) Isolation of human beings 3) Psychological damage reaction 4) Pain 5) Loneliness is the loss of a comfortable "frame". The prerequisites can be divided into personal characteristics and situational characteristics. Empirical criteria include intimate others, lack of social relationships or problems, family and friendship, belonging, recognition or expression of loneliness, emotional state changes and changes in health behavior, and physical symptoms. Conclusions: Loneliness is an important indicator of well-being and a cause of physical and mental illnesses, so nurses facing various subjects should be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of loneliness. By promoting and sustaining their interest, they should be able to enjoy lonely people.

  • In a previous study we proceeded to the remodularization architecture based on classes and packages using the Formal Concept Analysis (FCA)[13] [14] [30]. we then got two possible remodularized architectures and we explored the issue of redistributing classes of a package to other packages, we used an approach based on Oriented Graph to determine the packages that receive the redistributed classes and we evaluated the quality of a remodularized software architecture by metrics [31] [28] [29]. In this paper, we will address the issue of the efficiency of the Oriented Graph in the remodularization of software architectures compared to the Formal Concept Analysis FCA method. The formal method of FCA concept is not popularized among scientists as opposed to the use of the labeled directed graph. It is for this reason that our directed graph approach is more effective in its simplicity and popularity.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the 7th national science curriculum (chemistry domain) regarding the meanings of ‘mulgil' (Korean), the particulate nature of matter, and the state of matter. It was found that the term of ‘mulgil' was being used vaguely as representing material, matter, or substance without clear definition. This was problematic by reason that it could hinder students from having the concept of substance. Regarding the particulate nature of matter, molecule was introduced as a basic unit of matter at grade 7, prior to atom and ion, which were introduced at grade 9 and 10, respectively. It is necessary to reconsider the sequence of each particle concept to provide students with more consistent and comprehensive understanding of structure of matter. In the case of change of state, key concepts such as conservation of matter or reversibility were omitted in the curriculum document, and explanations based on various aspects of particles were somewhat insufficient. The concept of matter is fundamental to chemistry, and we must recognize it as a concept that needs to be taught clearly. Implications for curriculum revision were discussed.

  • The pictures of design details, such as collar type, sleeve type, skirt type, and skirt length, and color tone were evaluated by 377 persons in terms of sensibility and emotion. The data were analyzed by SPSS using ANOVA and Factor analysis to find out the most effective types of details on consumer's sensibility and emotion, and the methods were introduced. The most effective type is skirt length on sensibility and emotion of women's dress. The second type is different according to sensibility and emotion. Sensibility and emotion were composed of three concept: contemporary, mature and character. Sleeve type is second determinant to contemporary concept, and color tone is to mature concept, collar type is to character concept. 41 each details of design were positioned into 3D-concept space to connect each detail type and fashion concept of women's dress.

  • Purpose: Smoking temptation is communicated frequently among people related to smoking cessation and has specific meanings within the context of smoking. However, the concept of smoking temptation has not been well articulated in the literatures. This study was conducted to clarify and to conceptualize the phenomena of smoking temptation. Method: The Hybrid Model of concept development was applied to develop a concept of smoking temptation, which included a field study carried out in Seoul, South Korea using in-depth interviews with 5 adult smokers. Results: The concept of smoking temptation emerged as a complex phenomenon having meanings in several different dimensions which encompassed several attributes. In addition, the conceptual structure of smoking temptation centered around five dimensions: Response to conditioned stimuli, Distancing from harsh reality, Nicotine dependency, Habitual routine, and Lack of control. Conclusions: Smoking temptation is a concept that needs to be treated in a specified individual way and it is possible to enrich the meanings and methods to manage smoking temptation in nursing smoking cessation interventions that its application may have positive impacts on patients' well being.
