As a result, most of school libraries in Korea have not been fundtioning as the center of educational activity which is closely connected with learning process and as the place of the extension of classroom, but as the place of storing books. Besides the importance of materials and facilities, the educational function of school libraries can be fully achieved only when each school librarian clearly understands his work and duties, and accomplishes them successfully. This study, which are based on analysis of literature investigations and precedent studies, are summarized as follow: 1. There is an absolute lack of the number of school librarians (or alternative teachers) in comparison to the number which is specified in the regulations of Library Law. 2. There is no a n.0, ppropriate legal foundation for employment of school librarians and library assistants, and of their o n.0, pportunities for promotion. 3. The school library in korea has been stayed so far on its infantile, namely 'the period of material arrangement', in the aspect of the function. 4. The administrative organization of the school library has not gained much recognition of its professional character. And even more the position of the school library today is not enough clear to be stable in the total school system. By solving these factors step, the newly reformed school library in Korea will play a great role in improving her education by the hand of school librarians whose spirits are re-filled with willingness and creativity.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the case of 'drive-thru' services newly introduced and tried in libraries in Korea under the influence of COVID-19, and to develop and propose a service model so that this service can be continuously applied to all libraries in the future. Therefore, the method of study was selected and analyzed by selecting one of the representative libraries that provide related services in Seoul Special City, Incheon Metropolitan City, and Anyang City of Gyeonggi Province. In addition, a focus group interview was conducted with twelve people in charge to find a way to apply the drive-thru service to the library. As a result, the library's drive-thru service is a way to fulfill the library's original purpose of providing information materials while minimizing faceto-face contact with users. It was concluded that it is a suitable method for a library of complex buildings, where there is a lack of parking space. In addition, it was deduced that it may be one of the ways to use the library efficiently for office workers who are unable to use library services during the opening hours. Therefore, if the drive-thru service is implemented according to the developed model, it is expected to increase the library visit rate and data utilization rate.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest practical plans to improve the school library consulting, especially in case of a teacher librarian is not assigned. As a result of analyses, consulting through methods of the School Library Assistant Group lacks spontaneity, expertise, council, and independence. Besides, each office of education operates it as a marketing. A main goal of school consulting is to foster independent problem- solving of individual schools. Accordingly, it is necessary to build an union management system, develop a standard staff manual, construct DLS based on-line consulting, and design educational training programs of consultants for its successful consulting.

  • This study aims to analyze the current status of school library assessment and generate discussion points for the development directions of the assessment. Surveys, consulting, and evaluations related to school libraries conducted by the Office of Education, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism were analyzed using meta-evaluations and in-depth interviews with the school librarians. The analysis revealed problems such as duplication of evaluation by various institutions, no reflection of the national school library development plan, low participation rate due to voluntary nature of the assessment, and lack of the educational evaluation index. The solution to the problem was a school libraries' operation evaluation improvement plan. The plan included the legal evaluation agent specification, the national school library development plan incorporation, inter-agency evaluation network & the case sharing system establishment, and the Office of Education's investigation and consulting cooperation.

  • 21st century is called as a knowledge based society. It means that a society has to build an efficient information system to store and retrieve their knowledge and information. I think a school library is a base educational institution to teach information skill and a student has to be trained very well to treat information in 21st century. However school library has not been developed enough in Korea, and so I suggest the strategy of school library development for the new millennium. For the purposes, I divide the environmental elements of school library into two parts -external and internal elements of school library environment- and examine them to suggest some policies. Even though the suggestions are still a little fantastic in the situation of scl~ml library in Korea, they should bc objects to be achieved in someday.
