  • The present study describes a combination method to recognize the human affective states such as anger, happiness, sadness, or surprise. For this, we extracted emotional features from voice signals and facial expressions, and then trained them to recognize emotional states using hidden Markov model (HMM) and neural network (NN). For voices, we used prosodic parameters such as pitch signals, energy, and their derivatives, which were then trained by HMM for recognition. For facial expressions, on the other hands, we used feature parameters extracted from thermal and visible images, and these feature parameters were then trained by NN for recognition. The recognition rates for the combined parameters obtained from voice and facial expressions showed better performance than any of two isolated sets of parameters. The simulation results were also compared with human questionnaire results.

The purpose of the present study was to validate the five-factor structure of the K-MSLSS using Confirmatory Factor Analysis(CFA) procedures by means of the AMOS 7.0 statistical program. Of the 681 children(10.5 years, SD=1.1) recruited from three public elementary schools in Seoul 431 children were the calibration sample and 430 children were the validation sample. Results of the analyses found that the five-factor structure of K-MSLSS is applicable for use with Korean children from 9-12 years of age regardless of gender.

The attachment representation of 43 children 6-9 years of age was evaluated by the Manchester Attachment Story Task (Green, Stanley, & Goldwyn, 2003) children's family drawings were classified by Fury's Family Drawing Scales (1996). Results showed that 12 children (28%) were avoidant, 23 (54%) secure, 4 (9%) resistant, and 4 (9%) were disorganized. Classification of childhood attachment representation showed a high concordance rate (86%) with family drawings. Securely Attached children showed positive perceptions such as family pride/happiness and vitality/creativity while Insecure children showed negative perceptions like emotional distance, tension and bizarreness.
