The light extraction technology for improving the light efficiency of OLEDs is the core technology for extracting the light inside the OLEDs to the outside. This study demonstrates a simple method to generate random nanostructures (RNSs) containing high refractive index nanoparticles to improve light extraction and viewing angle characteristics. A simple dry low-temperature process makes the nanostructured scattering layer on the polymer resin widely used in the industry. The scattering layer has the shape of randomly distributed nanorods. To control optical properties, we focused on changing the shape and density of RNSs and adjusting the concentration of high refractive index nanoparticles. As a result, the film of the present invention exhibits a perpendicular transmittance of 85% at a wavelength of 550 nm. This film was used as a scattering layer to reduce substrate mode loss and improve EL efficiency in OLEDs.
The structure and magnetic properties of Fe-Ni films, deposited by DC magnetron sputtering on Si(111) wafer, have been studied. The spin wave stiffness constant is determined by Brillouin light scattering (BLS) and compared with the value obtained from magnetization measurements. The range of exchange interaction was determined as 0.4 atomic distances in the film deposited in a bias magnetic field, which is 1/2 that in the film grown in no bias magnetic field. The results show that the dimensions of exchange coupling increased by the sputtering in the magnetic field.

We examined ammonia diffusion on the surface of amorphous ice film through the measurement of decreasing residual quantity of $NH_3$ molecules compared to $H_2O$. The populations of $NH_3$ molecules on the surface of amorphous ice were monitored by using the techniques of temperature programmed reactive ion scattering (TPRIS) method. The ratio of intensity between ammonia and water was examined as a function of time at controlled temperature. When ammonia molecules were externally added onto an ice film at a temperature of 80 K, ammonia coverage with regard to ice was 0.12-0.16 ML. The intensity of ammonia molecules on the surface of ice decreased as time increased and the extent of decreased intensity of ammonia increased as controlled temperature increased. Moreover, energy barrier was estimated to be $51kJmol^{-1}$ on amorphous ice film. The results of the experiment indicate that ammonia molecules have a property of vertical diffusion into amorphous ice and the energy barrier of ammonia diffusion into bulk of ice is higher than that of hydrogen bonding.
Four diamond films were deposited by the microwave plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition method varying CH4 concentration from 2.5 to 10% in the feeding gases. Thermal conductivity was measured on these free standing films by the steady state method from 80 K to 400K. They showed higher thermal conductivity as the film deposited with lower methane concentration. One exception, 7.79% methane concentration deposited film, was observed to be the highest thermal conductivity. Phonon scattering processes were considered to analyze the thermal conductivity with the full Callaway model. The grain size and the concentration of the extended and the point defects were used as the fitting parameters. Microstructure of diamond films was investigated with the scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy.

The front transparent conductive oxide (TCO) films must exhibit good transparency, low resistivity and excellent light scattering properties for high efficiency amorphous silicon (a-Si) thin film solar cells. The light trapping phenomenon is limited due to non-uniform and low aspect ratio of the textured glass [1]. We present the low cost electrochemically deposited uniform zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods with various aspect ratios for a-Si thin film solar cells. Since the major drawback of the electrochemically deposited ZnO nanorods was the high sheet resistance and low transmittance that was overcome by depositing the RF magnetron sputtered AZO films as a seed layer with various thicknesses [2]. The length and diameters of the ZnO nanorods was controlled by varying the deposition conditions. The length of ZnO nanorods were varied from 400 nm to $2{\mu}m$ while diameter was kept higher than 200 nm to obtain different aspect ratios. The uniform ZnO nanorods showed higher haze ratio as compared to the commercially available FTO films. We also observed that the scattering in the longer wavelength region was favored for the high aspect ratio of ZnO nanorods and much higher aspect ratios degraded the light scattering phenomenon. Therefore, we proposed our low cost and uniform ZnO nanorods for the high efficiency of thin film solar cells.

The surface morphology of front transparent conductive oxide (TCO) films is very important to achieve high current density in amorphous silicon (a-Si) thin film solar cells since it can scatter the light in a better way. In this study, we present the low cost hydrothermal deposited uniform zinc oxide (ZnO) nano-flower structure with various aspect ratios for a-Si thin film solar cells. The ZnO nano-flower structures with various aspect ratios were grown on the RF magnetron sputtered AZO films. The diameters and length of the ZnO nano-flowers was controlled by varying the annealing time. The length of ZnO nano-flowers were varied from 400 nm to $2{\mu}m$ while diameter was kept higher than 200 nm to obtain different aspect ratios. The ZnO nano-flowers with higher surface area as compared to conventional ZnO nano structure are preferred for the better light scattering. The conductivity and crystallinity of ZnO nano-flowers can be enhanced by annealing in hydrogen atmosphere at 350 oC. The vertical aligned ZnO nano-flowers showed higher haze ratio as compared to the commercially available FTO films. We also observed that the scattering in the longer wavelength region was favored for the high aspect ratio of ZnO nano-flowers. Therefore, we proposed low cost and vertically aligned ZnO nano-flowers for the high performance of thin film solar cells.
Coarse clumping of solid materials within diseased biological cells can have a marked influence on the light scattering pattern. Perturbations in refractive index lead to distinct variations in the cytometric signature, especially apparent over wide scattering angles. The large dynamic range of scattering intensities restricts collection of data to narrow angular intervals believed to have the highest potential for medical diagnosis. We propose the use of an interference filter to reduce the dynamic range. Selective attenuation of scattering intensity levels is expected to allow simultaneous data collection over a wide angular interval. The calculated angular transmittance of a commercial shortwave-pass filter of cut-off wavelength 580 nm indicates significant attenuation of scattering peaks below ${\~}\;10^{circ}$, and reasonable peak equalization at higher angles. For the three-dimensional calculation of laser light scattered by cells we use a spectral method code that models cells as spatially varying dielectrics, stationary in time. However, we perform preliminary experimental testing with the interference filter on polystyrene microspheres instead of biological cells. A microfluidic toolkit is used for the manipulation of the microspheres. The paper intends to illustrate the principle of a light scattering detection system incorporating an interference filter for selective attenuation of scattering peaks.

The phase separated structure and the electro-optical properties of the (polymer/liquid) crystal : LC) composite film strongly depended on the weight fraction of LC in it. The continuous LC phase was formed in a three-dimensional polymer network when the LC weight fraction was above 40wt%. The aggregation structure of the composite film could be controlled by controlling the solvent evaporation velocity during the film preparation process. The smaller LC domains or channels were formed in the case of the faster solvent evaporation velocity. The composite film exhibited reversible light scattering-light transmission switching upon electric field -OFF and -ON states, respectiverly. The light scattering properties of the composite film strongly depended on the spatial distortion of the nematic directors as well as the mismatch in refractive indices between matrix polymer and LC.
Si-based electromagnetic noise suppressors on coplanar waveguide transmission lines incorporated with a $SiO_2$ dielectric layer and a nanogranular Co-Fe-Al-O magnetic thin film are reported. Unlike glass-based devices, large signal attenuation is observed even in the bare structure without coating the magnetic thin film. Much larger signal attenuation is achieved in fully integrated devices. The transmission scattering parameter ($S_{21}$) is as small as -90 dB at 20 GHz at the following device dimensions; the thicknesses of the $SiO_2$ and Co-Fe-Al-O thin films are 0.1 $\mu$m and 1 $\mu$m, respectively, the length of the transmission line is 15 mm, and the width of the magnetic thin film is 2000 $\mu$m. In all cases, the reflection scattering parameter ($S_{11}$) is below -10 dB over the whole frequency band. Additional distributed capacitance formed by the Cu transmission line/$SiO_2$/Si substrate is responsible for these characteristics. It is considered that the present noise suppressors based on the Si substrate are a first important step to the realization of MMIC noise suppressors.
In-situ pulse laser (Nd-YAG, 2nd harmonics 532 nm) annealing used in physical vapor deposition of $MgF_2$, $SiO_2$ and ZnS thin films was shown to be effective in improving their surface roughness properties. Total integrated scattering (TIS) measurements of $MgF_2$ and $SiO_2$ samples deposited on glass substrates revealed that the laser irradiation of films at an energy of approximately $140\;mJ/cm^2$ at 532 nm with a repetition frequency of 10 Hz and pulse duration of 5 ns during the deposition resulted in total scatterings that were minimum. But in case of the ZnS samples, measurements revealed minimum total scattering at a laser energy of approximately $62\;mJ/cm^2$. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) has been used to evaluate the effect of pulse laser annealing on the surface roughness for thin film samples. The results were similar to the TIS measurements, indicating that surface roughness was decreased when the irradiated annealing pulse laser energy increased. But it also increased when the irradiated annealing pulse laser energy was over some limit that depended on the materials.
