  • The temperature and humidity of 49 greenhouses for oak mushroom cultivation were investigated for 5 years to analyze the trends in the change of these parameters according to the climate change in Korea. The 5-year average temperature and humidity were $24.7^{\circ}C$ and 60.5%, respectively, in sawdust media-based cultivation houses and $24.4^{\circ}C$ and 60.0%, respectively, in log-bed cultivation houses. The average temperature in the summer was $29.8^{\circ}C$ in 2016, $29.1^{\circ}C$ in 2017, and $33.3^{\circ}C$ in 2018 in the log-bed cultivation houses and $26.8^{\circ}C$ in 2016, $20.4^{\circ}C$ in 2017, and $24.2^{\circ}C$ in 2018 in the sawdust media-based cultivation houses. During the investigation, temperatures over $30^{\circ}C$ were detected in one cultivation house in spring and five such houses in summer. When classifying by cultivation type, temperatures over $30^{\circ}C$ were found in five log-bed cultivation houses and temperatures less than $20^{\circ}C$ were found in four log-bed cultivation houses in fall. This study shows that log-bed cultivation houses for oak mushroom need to be modified to cope with the climate change.

  • Manure compost biofilter for reducing ammonia emissions at the active stage of a semi air tight and agitated bed composting of hog manure amended with sawdust were evaluated in the practical composting plant(75 m 5 m $\times$1.4 m deep). During 55 days of composting and biofiltration process, the manure compost biofilter had a ammonia reduction of 91 to 98%. Results showed that the active stage of composting maintained temperatures between 40 and 7$0^{\circ}C$ and fluctuated greatly the ammonia concentrations between 100 and 300 ppm. Ammonia concentrations in manure compost biofiltration reached within a moderate range (2-18 ppm).

  • The fixed bed gasification reactor with 1 m hight and 10.2 cm diameter was utilized for the hydrogen production from biomass wastes. Lauan sawdust was used for non-catalytic and catalytic gasification reaction as a sample in the fixed bed reactor. The fixed bed temperature and catalyst are the major variables affecting the process operation. Thus, the effect of fixed bed temperature and the catalysts on gas composition were studied at the temperature range from $400^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$. The yield of hydrogen was increased at higher temperature in the fixed bed reaction. Fractions of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and methane gas in the product gas increased when sodium carbonate ($Na_2CO_3$) and potassium carbonate ($K_2CO_3$) catalysts were used. Furthermore, sodium carbonate catalyst was more effective to obtain higher hydrogen yield compared to potassium carbonate catalyst.

  • This study was carried out to compare the filtration effect of anaerobic digestion waste water by compost filtration bed. Three types of filtration systems were set for filtration test following to composition of bedding materials. Two filtration systems were filled with sawdust, rice-hull and wood-chip. And the other was filled with sawdust and rice-hull. Anaerobic digestion waste water was applied evenly on the surface of the filtration bed with spraying nozzle. The concentration of nitrogen, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), suspended solids (SS) of anaerobic digestion waste water was decreased by filtration treatment. The total nitrogen content was decreased from 1,313 mg/L to 1,090~1,293 mg/L and BOD concentration was decreased from 529.7 mg/L to 125~162.3 mg/L, respectively. The SS content was decreased from 69~79% by filtration process. In addition, the electrical conductivity (EC) was decreased from 10.22 ds/m to 7.91~8.31 ds/m.

  • Lauan sawdust was gasified by steam reforming for hydrogen production from biomass waste. The fixed bed gasification reactor with 1m height and 10.2 cm diameter was utilized for the analysis of temperature and catalysts effect. Steam was injected to the gasification reactor for the steam reforming effect. Lauan sawdust was mixed with potassium carbonate, sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate, sodium carbonate + potassium carbonate and magnesium carbonate + calcium carbonate catalysts of constant mass fraction of 8:2 which was injected to the fixed gasification equipment. The compositions of production gas of gasification reaction were analyzed at the temperature range from $400^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$. Fractions of hydrogen, methane and carbon monoxide gas in the production gas increased when catalysts were used. Fractions of hydrogen, methane and carbon monoxide gas were increased with increasing temperature. The highest hydrogen yield was obtained with sodium carbonate catalyst.

  • In order to determine the possibility of artificial cultivation of Ganoderma lucidum, a study was carried out to optimize the medium composition used for bed culture. Sawdust spawn of medium composition for optimal growth was found to be the combination of 75% oak-sawdust, 10% cotton-seed meal, and 15% beet pulp. The optimal conditions for the formation of fruiting bodies were shown to be a temperature of $28-30^{\circ}C$, light intensity of 1,000-1,500 lux, and $CO_2$ concentration of 1%.

  • An ex-situ gravitational fixed bed pyrolysis reactor was used over Al2O3 supported Ni2P based catalyst with various Ni/P molar ratios (0.5-2.0) and constant nickel loading of 5.37 mmol/g Al2O3 to determine the hydrodeoxygenation of rubberwood sawdust (RWS) at atmospheric pressure. The 3D catalysts formed were characterized structurally as well as acidic properties were determined by hydrogen-temperature programmed reduction (TPR). The Ni2P phase formed completely on Al2O3 for 1.5 Ni/P ratio, although lesser crystallite sizes of Ni2P were seen at Ni/P ratios less than 1.5. Additionally, it was shown that when nickel loading level increased, acidity increased and specific surface area dropped, probably because nickel phosphate is not easily converted to Ni2P. When Ni/P ratio was 1.5, Ni2P phase fully formed on Al2O3. The catalytic activity was explained in terms of impacts of reaction temperature and Ni/P molar ratio. At relatively high temperature of 450℃, the high-value deoxygenated produce was predominantly composed of n-alkanes. Based on the findings, it was suggested that hydrogenolysis, hydrodeoxygenation, dehydration, decarbonylation, and hydrogenation are all part of mechanism underlying hydrotreatment of RWS. In conclusion, the synthesized Ni2P/ Al2O3 catalyst was capable of deoxygenating RWS with ease at atmospheric pressure, primarily resulting in long chained (C9-C24) hydrocarbons and acetic acid.
