The primary purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the performance of local spatial autocorrelation techniques in identifying spatial distribution patterns of green spaces. To achieve the objective, this researcher uses satellite image analysis and spatial autocorrelation techniques. The result of the study shows that the LISA cluster map with the spatial outlier cluster is superior to other analytical methods in identifying the spatial distribution pattern of urban green space. This study can contribute to the related fields in that it uses several different research methods than the existing ones. Despite this differentiation and usefulness, this study has limitations in using low-resolution satellite imagery and NDVI among vegetation indices in identifying spatial distribution patterns of green areas. These limitations may be overcome in future studies by using UAV images or by simultaneously using several vegetation indices.

The paper reviewed remote sensing techniques that will have, or already having, a substantial impact on improving data quality of forest inventory and forest management and planning. The aim of this review is to identify, categorize and discuss Korean and international sources published primarily in the last decades. The focus on remote sensing and ICT technologies examines issues related to their opportunities, limitation, use and impact on the forestry. More specifically, this literature review has focused on laser scanning, satellite imagery, and Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) utilization in forest management and inventory analysis.
One of the most difficult tasks in measuring oceanic conditions is to produce oceanic current information. In efforts to overcome the difficulties, various attempts have been carried out to estimate the speed and direction of ocean currents by utilizing sequential satellite images. In this study, we have estimated sea surface current vectors to the south of the Korean Peninsula, based on the maximum cross-correlation method by using sequential ocean color images of SeaWiFS chlorophyll-a. Comparison of surface current vectors estimated by this method with the geostrophic current vectors estimated from satellite altimeter data and in-situ ADCP measurements are good in that current speeds are underestimated by about 15% and current directions are show differences of about $36^{\circ}$ compared with previous results. The technique of estimating current vectors based on maximum cross-correlation applied on sequential images of SeaWiFS is promising for the future application of GOCI data for the ocean studies.
This study investigated the method for obtaining 3-dimensional terrain information on inaccessable areas by evaluating geometric accuracy of the EOC pass image and scene image acquired from the KOMPSAT-1 satellite. For this purpose, the following four experiments were conducted to evaluate the accuracy of the KOMPSAT-1 EOC satellite data. 1) Calculation of ground coordinates by using ancillary data and image coordinates on Level 1R that were processed by the pre-processing system of KOMPSAT-1. 2) Calculation of 3-dimensional ground coordinates from the ground coordinates of stereo images calculated by using ancillary data, based on space intersections. 3) Execution of bundle adjustment by using GCP (Ground Control Point) extracted in a part of the stereo pass image (KOMPSAT-1 EOC, 1 scene size); and then, evaluation of the ground coordinates from the calculated exterior orientation. 4) Evaluation of accuracy by applying the exterior orientation calculated from 3) To the whole pass image.

In order to obtain consistent change detection result for multi-temporal satellite images, preprocessing must be performed. In particular, the preprocessing related to the spectral values can be performed by the radiometric normalization, and relative radiometric normalization is generally utilized. However, most relative radiometric normalization methods assume a linear relationship between the two images, and nonlinear spectral characteristics such as phenological differences are not considered. Therefore, this study proposes a relative radiometric normalization which assumes nonlinear relationships that can perform compositive normalization of radiometric and phenological characteristics. The proposed method selects the subject and reference images, and then extracts the radiometric control set samples through the no-change method. In addition, spectral indexes as well as pixel values are extracted in order to consider sufficient information, and modeling of nonlinear relationships is performed through multilayer perceptron. Finally, the proposed method is compared with the conventional relative radiometric normalization methods, which shows that the proposed method is visually and quantitatively superior.
A multi-temporal approach using remotely sensed time series data obtained over multiple years is a very useful method for monitoring land covers and land-cover changes. While spectral-based methods at any particular time limits the application utility due to instability of the quality of data obtained at that time, the approach based on the temporal profile can produce more accurate results since data is analyzed from a long-term perspective rather than on one point in time. In this study, a multi-temporal approach applying a multi-periodic harmonic model is proposed for classification of remotely sensed data. A harmonic model characterizes the seasonal variation of a time series by four parameters: average level, frequency, phase, and amplitude. The availability of high-quality data is very important for multi-temporal analysis. An satellite image usually have many unobserved data and bad-quality data due to the influence of observation environment and sensing system, which impede the analysis and might possibly produce inaccurate results. Harmonic analysis is also very useful for real-time data reconstruction. Multi-periodic harmonic model is applied to the reconstructed data to classify land covers and monitor land-cover change by tracking the temporal profiles. The proposed method is tested with the MODIS and GOCI NDVI time series over the Korean Peninsula for 5 years from 2012 to 2016. The results show that the multi-periodic harmonic model has a great potential for classification of land-cover types and monitoring of land-cover changes through characterizing annual temporal dynamics.
Urban land cover classification is role in urban planning and management. So, it's important to improve classification accuracy on urban location. In this paper, machine learning model, Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) are proposed for urban land cover classification based on high resolution satellite imagery (KOMPSAT-3A). Satellite image was trained based on 25 m rectangle grid to create training data, and training models used for classifying test area. During the validation process, we presented confusion matrix for each result with 250 Ground Truth Points (GTP). Of the four SVM kernels and the two activation functions ANN, the SVM Polynomial kernel model had the highest accuracy of 86%. In the process of comparing the SVM and ANN using GTP, the SVM model was more effective than the ANN model for KOMPSAT-3A classification. Among the four classes (building, road, vegetation, and bare-soil), building class showed the lowest classification accuracy due to the shadow caused by the high rise building.

The advent of deep learning-based algorithms has facilitated researches on target detection from synthetic aperture radar(SAR) imagery. While most of them concentrate on detection tasks for ships with open SAR ship datasets and for aircraft from SAR scenes of airports, there is relatively scarce researches on the detection of SAR ground vehicle targets where several adverse factors such as high false alarm rates, low signal-to-clutter ratios, and multiple targets in close proximity are predicted to degrade the performances. In this paper, a dataset of ground vehicle targets acquired from TerraSAR-X(TSX) satellite SAR images is presented. Then, both detection and instance segmentation are simultaneously carried out on this dataset based on the deep learning-based Mask R-CNN. Finally, this paper shows the future research directions to further improve the performances of detecting the SAR ground vehicle targets.
Building information is essential for various urban spatial analyses. For this reason, continuous building monitoring is required, but it is a subject with many practical difficulties. To this end, research is being conducted to extract buildings from satellite images that can be continuously observed over a wide area. Recently, deep learning-based semantic segmentation techniques have been used. In this study, a part of the structure of the context-based ResU-Net was modified, and training was conducted to automatically extract a building from a 30 cm Worldview-3 RGB image using SpaceNet's building v2 free open data. As a result of the classification accuracy evaluation, the f1-score, which was higher than the classification accuracy of the 2nd SpaceNet competition winners. Therefore, if Worldview-3 satellite imagery can be continuously provided, it will be possible to use the building extraction results of this study to generate an automatic model of building around the world.
When a satellite image has low spatial resolution, it is difficult to detect small objects. In this research, we aim to check the effect of super resolution on object detection. Super resolution is a software method that increases the resolution of an image. Unpaired super resolution network is used to improve Sentinel-2's spatial resolution from 10 m to 3.2 m. Faster-RCNN, RetinaNet, FCOS, and S2ANet were used to detect vessels in the Sentinel-2 images. We experimented the change in vessel detection performance when super resolution is applied. As a result, the Average Precision (AP) improved by at least 12.3% and up to 33.3% in the ship detection models trained with the super-resolution image. False positive and false negative cases also decreased. This implies that super resolution can be an important pre-processing step in object detection, and it is expected to greatly contribute to improving the accuracy of other image-based deep learning technologies along with object detection.
