All crude oil carries a little of water, sand, and mineral sediment molecules tightly bounded with hydrocarbons. The result is the gradual precipitation of these heavier elements into thick, granular petroleum by products known as crude oil sludge. The oily sludges in ship tanks and in storage facilities have to be treated efficiently in order to keep the security and the capacity of storage facilities, to protect a serious environmental pollution, and to retrieve lost resource. The oily sludge treatment system should be designed to satisfy requirements mentioned in safe work condition. As a basic study, in this paper, an oily sludge treatment system by ultrasonic waves was proposed. Then, the features of ultrasonic energy and recovery of sludge with ultrasonic waves are investigated by experiments. As results, we found that ultrasonic waves are a new energy to flow oil sludge environment-friendly in safe work condition. In addition, it was shown that ultrasonic energy is more efficient than thermal energy in treating oil sludge, and that the volume of wastes for disposal is reduced remarkably.
Analysis of chirp high-resolution seismic profiles from the central Yellow Sea reveals that depositional environments in this area can be divided into three distinctive zones from west to east: (1) subaqueous delta system near the Shandong Peninsula, (2) erosional zone in the central Yellow Sea, and (3) tidal sand ridges and sand waves near the Korean Peninsula. The Shandong subaqueous delta, extending southward from the Shandong Peninsula, changes gradually into prodelta southeastward. The sediments originated from the Yellow River are transported southward along the Chinese coastal area. The erosional zone in the central Yellow Sea contains numerous paleochannels and shows linear erosional features trending northwest-southeast. The erosional zone would be dominated by non-depositional or erosional processes during the Holocene. Tidal sand ridges and sand waves are well developed along the western coast of Korea. The residual sands, which were originally fluvial sediments at the sea-level lowstand, are interpreted as the result of winnowing process during the sea-level rise. Modern sand ridges generally migrates in a northeast-southwestern direction, which coincide with dominant tidal current direction.
Sand ridges in the South Sea of Korea have been investigated to reveal the surface morphology and vortical variation in sediment physical property. Both field and laboratory methods such as high resolution subbottom profiling, side scan sonar, and physical property and sediment textural study on cored sediments were employed. Asymmetric sand waves are found on the ridge, No prominent difference in the sediment was recorded throughout the ridge area. Sediment sorting is generally poor due to interbedded mud. Average compressional wave velocity is 1753 m/sec for the sand dominated core section, Most of cores show two prominent facies: facies A and B. Facies A is defined as modern mud sediment and B is dominated by relict sand. Facies B is characterized by gravel, sand, and shell fragment, It is suggested that the facies B was developed in transgressive environment by tide and sporadic high energy events.
The Geomorphological properties and ages of river-mouth bar at Song-cheon River in the East Coast of Korea, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province are estimated, and the long-term and short-term changing processes and causes are analyzed. Sand grains of the bar near the coastline show the finer trends from south to north and these can be attributed to the northward movement of waves and long-shore currents. The absolute ages of bar and nearby coastal sand dune are less than approximately 100 years ago, indicating that the bar has experienced the active geomorphological changes. While the inlet located at south part of the bar between 1971 and 1995, the inlet has located at north or middle part since 1995. These may caused by the changes of movement directions of waves and long-shore currents due to the apparent northward movements of winds and currents. In short-term, the higher elevation, larger area, simpler landform relief and more variable location of inlet and morphology of bar can be observed between September and March due to the dominance of sedimentary processes by wave and wind processes.

In this study, we will develop the sea surface interpretation system that can aware the target in the bottom of the sea. we will setup the database whose records would be the signal patterns of formation about mud, sand, rock and sea shell achieved by using supersonic. then we will convert analog signal received in fish detector to digital one using A/D converter So we can process and analyze this signal pattern then compare it to the one in our Database at the real time to identify the target in the bottom of the sea. After enough times of experiments from the background of the results that have been achieved from many studies(including a water tank experiment and a field investigation), we can aware the exact information of the sediment and the sand in the sea. By analyzing the first, second and third signal of the supersonic characters reflected from the body of a fish categorized by its family and from the body of shellfish, muddy sand, sand and rocks, We will develop the sea surface decipherment system which abstracts the first signal that shows the target in the bottom of the sea and makes the second and third signals filtering.

During our observations of changes in halophyte distribution in Hampyeong Bay over a period of five years, we found that the distribution area showed a maintenance for Phragmites communis community, a tendency of gradual increase for Zoysia sinica community, gradual decrease for Suaeda maritima community, and disappearance for Limonium tetragonum community during the studied period. The Phragmites communis community stably settled in areas adjacent to land and appeared not to be significantly affected by physical factors (such as tides and waves) or disturbances caused by biological factors (such as interspecific competition). Among studied species, germination time was shown to be the fastest for Suaeda maritima. In addition, this species showed certain characteristics that allowed it to settle primarily in new habitats formed by sand deposition as its growth was not halted under conditions with high amounts of sand and high organic matter content. However, in areas where Zoysia sinica and Suaeda maritima resided together, the area inhabited by Suaeda maritima gradually decreased due to interspecific competition between the two species. This was believed to be the result of a sharp decrease in the germination of Suaeda maritima since May, while the germination of Zoysia sinica was continuously maintained, indicating that the latter had an advantage in terms of seedling competition. In the case of the Limonium tetragonum community, its habitat was found to have been completely destroyed because it was covered by sand. The study area was confirmed to have undergone a large change in topography as tides and waves resulted in sand deposition onto these lands. Hampyeong Bay is considered to have experienced changes in halophyte distribution related to certain complex factors, such as changes in physical habitats and changes in biological factors such as interspecific competition.

Acoustic pressure transmission coefficient and phase velocity are measured as the functions of water porosity and air porosity in sand sediment slabs with water- and air-filled pores. Pores in the sand sediment slab we modeled as the structure of circular cylindrical tube shape filled with water and air. The first kind(fast) wave and second kind (slow) wave, identified by Biot, in the solid and fluid mixed medium are affected by the presence of water and air pores. Acoustic characteristics of such porous medium in water are also theoretically investigated in terms of the modified Biot-Attenborough (MBA) model, which uses the separate treatment of viscosity effect and thermal effect in non-rigid porous medium with water- and air-filed pores. The information on the fast waves introduces new concepts of the generalized tortuosity factor and dynamic shape factor.

Ultrasonic waves have several mechanical, chemical, and biological effects on a saturated soil medium. Their mechanical effects, popularly known as cavitation. Cavitation is the rapid and repeated formation, and resulting implosion, of imcrobubbles in a liquid, resulting in the propagation of microscopic shock waves. In a soil-liquid system, their mechanical effects generate high differntial fluid-particle velocities and microscopic shock waves. The velocity perturbations are capable of dislodging oil in the system by overcoming the forces binding oil to sand particles. In this study, a series of laboratory experiments involving the simple flushing and ultrasonic flushing were carried out. An increase in permeability and oil removal rate were observed in ultrasonic flushing tests. Some practical implications of these results are discussed in terms of technical feasibility of in situ implementation of ultrasonics.
This paper examined the impacts of the regional developments and dwellers behavior on the Seacoast. Seacoast features a variety of landforms which are created by the action of waves and tidal flows. The coastal landforms are found mainly in the interface between land and sea. Although erosional landforms constitute prominent landscape features as sea stack, sea arch, and rock cliff do, it is nonetheless the depositional features such as beaches, tidal flats, offshore bars, deltas, sanddunes, and coastal plains that have various ramifications for human communities. Among these, beaches and coastal sanddunes are special in that their formation is attributable to the combined action of waves, tidal flows, and winds. The main line of discussion in this dissertation is concerned with the transformation of group of beaches sanddunes along the coastline of Chungcheong-Namdo Province. To some extent, the erosion of coastal dunes has been a global phenomenon. The degradation process occurs most actively when the spring tides attack beaches, berms, and foredunes. Also involved in the transformation of coastal dunes are factors of human agency. The extent, speed, and pattern of their morphological changes are a function of land-use pattern. The reclamation of swale and the exploitation of sands as construction material and silica sand, for example, ruin the feature of coastal dunes.

Morphological changes around the groin system in the beach are examined using a numerical model. The model consists of two parts : the hydrodynamic model which calculates the transformation of waves and currents, and the sediment transport model which determines sediment transport rates and bottom topographic changes. The numerical model is applied to single-groin and three-groin systems on a typical plane beach. The changes to the beach system due to waves and currents during 150-day simulation near the groins are calculated using sediment transport rate patterns in the domain. The sand by-passing rate patterns around groins are also evaluated.
