In investigating heavy metal contents at specific areas, the method of selecting sampling points is Important A general method is, according to the law , random sampling of zigzag-form in the selected field. In this work, we studied whether the measured values obtained from a certain method of selecting sampling points is a representative of heavy metal contents in the selected field or not. The selected field for this study is located on the lower Yangsan-river: Gasan-li, Mulgum-myon, Yangsan-gun, KyoungNam, 1 km away from the mi, h stream of Nakdong river. The heavy metals investigated were Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn. The inductively coupled plasma(ICPI atomic emission spectrometer was used to measure these metals quantitatively. The number of total sampling points were 24. We compared the total mean values with the mean obtained from various methods of selecting sampling points.
Sequential sampling approaches of a metamodel that sampling points are updated sequentially become a significant consideration in metamodeling technique. Sequential sampling design is more effective than classical space filling design of all-at-once sampling because sequential sampling design is to add new sampling points by means of distance between sampling points or precdiction error obtained from metamodel. However, though the extremum points can strongly reflect the behaviors of responses, the existing sequential sampling designs are inefficient to approximate extremum points of original model. In this research, new sequential sampling approach using the sensitivity of Kriging model is proposed, so that new approach reflects the behaviors of response sequentially. Various sequential sampling designs are reviewed and the performances of the proposed approach are compared with those of existing sequential sampling approaches by using mean squared error. The accuracy of the proposed approach is investigated against optimization results of test problems so that superiority of the sensitivity approach is verified.
In this research, a novel sampling strategy for a CMM to inspect freeform surfaces is proposed. Unlike primitive surfaces, it is not easy to determine the number of sampling points and their locations for inspecting freeform surfaces. Since a CMM operates with slower speed in measurement than optical measuring devices, it is important to optimize the number and the locations of sampling points in the inspection process. When a complete inspection of a surface is required, it becomes more critical. Among various factors to cause shape errors of a final product, curvature characteristic is essential due to its effect such as stair-step errors in rapid prototyping and interpolation errors in NC tool paths generation. Shape errors are defined in terms of the average and standard deviation of differences between an original model and a produced part. Proposed algorithms determine the locations of sampling points by analyzing curvature distribution of a given surface. Based on the curvature distribution, a surface area is divided into several sub-areas. In each sub-area, sampling points are located as further as possible. The optimal number of sub-areas. In each sub-area, sampling points are located as further as possible. The optimal number os sub-areas is determined by estimating the average of curvatures. Finally, the proposed method is applied to several surfaces that have shape errors for verification.
Metamodel, model of model, has been widely used to improve an efficiency of optimization process in engineering fields. However, global metamodels of constraints in a constrained optimization problem are required good accuracy around neighborhood of optimum point. To satisfy this requirement, more sampling points must be located around the boundary and inside of feasible region. Therefore, a new sampling strategy that is capable of identifying feasible domain should be applied to select sampling points for metamodels of constraints. In this research, we suggeste sequential feasible domain sampling that can locate sampling points likely within feasible domain by using penalty function method. To validate the excellence of feasible domain sampling, we compare the optimum results from the proposed method with those form conventional global space-filling sampling for a variety of optimization problems. The advantages of the feasible domain sampling are discussed further.

In this paper, a depth image up-sampling method is put forward by using pixel classifying and jointed bilateral filtering. By analyzing the edge maps originated from the high-resolution color image and low-resolution depth map respectively, pixels in up-sampled depth maps can be classified into four categories: edge points, edge-neighbor points, texture points and smooth points. First, joint bilateral up-sampling (JBU) method is used to generate an initial up-sampling depth image. Then, for each pixel category, different refinement methods are employed to modify the initial up-sampling depth image. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the blurring artifact with lower bad pixel rate (BPR).
To improve the accuracy of a metamodel, additional sample points can be selected by using a specified criterion, which is often called sequential sampling approach. Sequential sampling approach requires small computational cost compared to one-stage optimal sampling. It is also capable of monitoring the process of metamodeling by means of identifying an important design region for approximation and further refining the fidelity in the region. However, the existing critertia such as mean squared error, entropy and maximin distance essentially depend on the distance between previous selected sample points. Therefore, although sufficient sample points are selected, these sequential sampling strategies cannot guarantee the accuracy of metamodel in the nearby optimum points. This is because criteria of the existing sequential sampling approaches are inefficient to approximate extremum and inflection points of original model. In this research, new sequential sampling approach using the sensitivity of metamodel is proposed to reflect the response. Various functions that can represent a variety of features of engineering problems are used to validate the sensitivity approach. In addition to both root mean squared error and maximum error, the error of metamodel at optimum points is tested to access the superiority of the proposed approach. That is, optimum solutions to minimization of metamodel obtained from the proposed approach are compared with those of true functions. For comparison, both mean squared error approach and maximin distance approach are also examined.
This paper proposes a variable sampling interval multivariate $T^2$ control chart with sampling at fixed times, where samples are taken at specified equally spaced fixed time points and additional samples are allowed between these fixed times when indicated by the preceding $T^2$ statistics. At fixed sampling points, the $T^2$ statistics are composed of all quality characteristics and a part of quality characteristics are selected to obtain $T^2$ statistics at additional sampling points. A Markov chain approach is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed chart. Numerical studies for the performance of the proposed chart show that the proposed chart reduces the observations obtained from a process and detects the assignable cause of a process with low correlated quality characteristics quickly.
Traditional SPC techniques are looking out variation of process by fixed sampling interval and fixed sample size about every hour, the process of in-control or out-of-control couldn't be detected actually when the sample points are plotted near control limits, and it takes no notice of expense concerned with such sample points. In this paper, to overcome that, consider VSI(variable sampling interval) EWMA control charts which VSI method is applied. The VSI control charts use a short sampling internal if previous sample points are plotted near control limits, then the process has high probability of out-of-control. But it uses a long sampling interval if they are plotted near centerline of the control chart, since process has high possibility of in-control. And then a comparison and analysis between FSI(fixed sampling interval) and VSI EWMA in the statistical aspect and economic aspect is studied. Finally, we show that VSI EWMA control chart is more efficient than FSI EWMA control chart in the both aspects.
Soil $CO_2$ efflux can vary markedly in magnitude over both time and space, and understanding this variation is crucial for the correct measurement of $CO_2$ efflux in ecological studies. Although considerable research has quantified temporal variability in this flux, comparatively little effort has focused on its spatial variability. To account for spatial heterogeneity, we must be able to determine the number of sampling points required to adequately estimate soil $CO_2$ efflux in a target ecosystem. In this paper, we report the results of a study of the number of sampling points required for estimating soil $CO_2$ efflux using a closed-dynamic chamber in young and old Japanese cedar plantations in central Japan. The spatial heterogeneity in soil $CO_2$ efflux was significantly higher in the mature plantation than in the young stand. In the young plantation, 95% of samples of 9 randomly-chosen flux measurements from a population of 16 measurements made using 72-$cm^2$ chambers produced flux estimates within 20% of the full-population mean. In the mature plantation, 20 sampling points are required to achieve means within $\pm$ 20% of the full-population mean (15 measurements) for 95% of the sample dates. Variation in soil temperature and moisture could not explain the observed spatial variation in soil $CO_2$ efflux, even though both parameters are a good predictor of temporal variation in $CO_2$ efflux. Our results and those of previous studies suggest that, on average, approximately 46 sampling points are required to estimate the mean and variance of soil $CO_2$ flux in temperate and boreal forests to a precision of $\pm$ 10% at the 95% confidence level, and 12 points are required to achieve a precision of $\pm$ 20%.
In this study, the effective method for reliability estimation is proposed using tow-staged kriging metamodel and genetic algorithm. Kriging metamodel can be determined by appropriate sampling range and the number of sampling points. The first kriging metamodel is made based on the proposed sampling points. The advanced f'=rst order reliability method is applied to the first kriging metamodel to determine the reliability and most probable failure point(MPFP) approximately. Then, the second kriging metamodel is constructed using additional sampling points near the MPFP. These points are selected using genetic algorithm that have the maximum mean squared error. The Monte-Carlo simulation is applied to the second kriging metamodel to estimate the reliability. The proposed method is applied to numerical examples and the results are almost equal to the reference reliability.
