Changes of Efficacy of Antioxidant, Antidyslipidemic, Antidiabetic and Microbiological Characteristics in Fermented and Salt-treated Fermented Codonopsis lanceolata (발효 더덕 및 소금 처리 발효 더덕의 미생물 특성과 항산화, 항비만, 항당뇨 효능 변화)

  • Objectives: We investigated about the microbial properties and changes in the efficacy of the Codonopsis lanceolata (CL) by natural fermentation. Methods: CL was fermented for four weeks in a well-ventilated place with 2.5% salt. pH, total sugar, total polyphenol, and total flavonoid were measured to determine fermentation characteristics according to fermentation period and salt treatment. Polymerase chain reaction denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and random amplification of polymorphic DNA-polymerase chain reaction were carried out for microbial analysis during fermentation. In addition, HepG2 cell was cultured to check the lipid accumulation through oil red O staining and the glucose uptake was analyzed by measuring the 2-NBDG at C2C12 cell. Results: The pH level and the total sugar decreased with the CL fermentation. Total polyphenol and flavonoid increased after CL fermentation. It was confirmed that Leuconostoc mesenteroides were maintained continuously during fermentation. In the salt treatment CL, there was a sharp increase in Rahnella aquatilis. Lactobacillus plantarum matrix was observed in fermented CL. In addition, Lactococcus lactis, Weissella koreensis, R. aquatilis, L. plantarum, Leu. mesenteroides have been added to the salt treatment. Glucose uptake were significantly increased after fermentation with salt for four weeks. Lipid accumulation in the HepG2 cells was observed that there was difference (P<0.01) between free fatty acid group (100%) and decreased 4 weeks after fermentation (90.38%) at $800{\mu}g/mL$. Conclusions: Total polyphenol and flavonoid were increased after CL fermentation. Especially, percentage of the glucose uptake and lipid accumulation inhibition increased in CL fermentation with salt. It is expected that fermentation of salt treated CL will be more effective in diabetes and fatty liver.

  • In order to investigate the effect of salinity level on tracking characteristics of polymer insulators for distribution power systems, tracking tests were performed by tracking wheel tester under different salt concentration. In this study, 6 kinds of polymer insulators were tested under 2200 ${\mu}\textrm{s}$/cm and 4000${\mu}\textrm{s}$/cm salinity. The salinity level has a significant effect on the tracking characteristics. Namely, most polymer insulators showed the good tracking resistance in case of low salinity level. But, in case of high salinity level some polymer insulators showed the excessive erosion and tracking. These phenomena may come from the different aging mechanism. It can be concluded that too high salinity level is not desirable in aging test of polymer insulators.

  • This study attempted to examine the effect on sensory characteristics and texture of Kyongdan in various volume of adding water and volume of adding salt the most favorite tendency on the guality was at the 25% adding water and 1∼1.5% adding salt. Evaluation was conducted through sensory evaluation and objective evaluation The results were summarized as follows. 1. In sensory evaluation on various volume of water and volume adding salt the most favorite tendency on the gualtity was at the 25vo adding water and 1∼1.5% adding salt. 2. This condition corresponded to the low level of hardness, adhesiveness, gumminess, chewiness and high level of springiness in compa-rison with Instron measurement. In summary the most favorite factor is 12 hours soaking time, 25% adding water (hot water), 1∼1.5% adding salt, over 50 times kneading.

  • The purpose of this study is to offer the basic data of the tidal river development program by grasping the diffusion between the high density-sea water and the low density-fresh water in the tidal river. The tidal range of Hyungsan river which flows at Youngil bay in Pohang was selected to analysis the phenomenon of density current. The results obtained are as follows ; The tide of Youngil bay was one time a day, 0.104m in high tide difference and 0.085m in mean tidy difference. The change of sea level by tide was negligible. The volume of reserved water by sea water was $2,700,000m^3$ and available water of irrigation was $1,200,000m^3$ that salt density is below $750{\mu}{\mho}/cm$ out of total volume. Salt intrusion phenomenon by density current was a little water level change, however, it become a salt wedge type by the much salt invasion during the spring tide and it makes a well-mixed type by the retreating salt wedge during the neap tide. As long as there were some density differences between sea water and fresh water, net upstream flow was existed along the bottom of water way from the estuary to the upstream channel.

Effect of Soil Salinity on Growth, Yield and Nutrients Uptake of Whole Crop Barley in Newly Reclaimed Land (신간척지에서 토양 염농도가 청보리 생육, 수량 및 양분 흡수에 미치는 영향)

  • BACKGROUND: Newly reclaimed land has poor soil environment for crop growth since it is high in salt concentration but low in organic content compared with ordinary soil. It is known that whole-crop-barley can grow better in the soil of relatively high salt concentration than other crops but, the growth is poor at the concentration if higher than certain amount and it is a difficulty to secure productivity. Hence, the level of soil salt concentration suitable for the production of bulky feed in newly reclaimed land has been investigated. METHODS AND RESULTS: At Saemanguem reclaimed land, the land for the soil salt concentration electrical conductivity (EC) 0.8, 3.1, 6.5, 11.0 dS/m was selected; and chemical fertilizer $N-P_2O_5-K_2O$ (150-100-100kg/ha) was tested; and forage barley 220kg/ha were sown. The soil salt concentration during the cultivation period decreased in the order of harvest season>earing season>sowing season>wintering season, and the salt concentration in harvest season is 1.4-4.2 times higher than that of the sowing season. The higher the salt concentration, the poorer the over ground growth due to poor rooting; especially at EC 11.0 ds/m there was emergence but, it blighted after wintering. The Yield from the soil salt concentration 3.1dS/m and 6.5 dS/m was 68% and 35% from that of the soil salt concentration 0.8 dS/m (8.8 MT/ha) respectively. The proline content in early life stage was more than that of the harvest season, and it increased with salt concentration. The higher salt concentration, the more $Na_2O$ and MgO content in harvest season; but the higher the salt concentration, the less the content of N, $P_2O_5$, $K_2O$ and CaO. CONCLUSION(S): When the soil salt concentration becomes higher than 3.1 dS/m, the yield becomes poor because there is serious growth inhibition of forage barley both in root part and above aerial part that results in unbalanced absorption of nutrients. Therefore, it is recommended that the salt concentration should be lowered below 3.1 dS/m by underground drainage facilities or irrigating water for the stable production of whole-crop-barley.

Cation Content of Salt-Tolerant and -Susceptible Cultivars and Its Inheritance in Rice (벼 내염성 및 비내염성 품종들의 양이온함량과 그의 유전)

  • This study was conducted to obtain the basic information on salt-tolerance of rice cultivars in relations with growth retardation and cation content. As the salt-level increased, less retardation in plant height and dry weight were shown in salt-tolerant than salt-susceptible rice cultivars. Salt tolerant cultivars showed lower N $a^{+}$ and higher $K^{+}$ content and lower N $a^{+}$ / $K^{+}$ ratio at each salt-levels than salt-susceptible ones, while there were no significant differences in $Ca^{++}$ and $Mg^{++}$ content. At the tillering stage, the plant height and dry weight of the salt-treated plots were significantly correlated with N $a^{+}$ and $K^{+}$ content and N $a^{+}$ / $K^{+}$ ratio, implying that N $a^{+}$ and $K^{+}$ content could be an indicator of salt-tolerance of a rice cultivar. There were no tiller-depending differences in cation content in all cultivars. N $a^{+}$ content and N $a^{+}$ / $K^{+}$ ratio in leaves were lower at the top and higher at the bottom. In three $F_1$ hybrids between salt tolerant parent Pokkali and three salt susceptible parents, plant height, dry weight, $K^{+}$ content and N $a^{+}$ / $K^{+}$ ratio were similar to those of Pokkali parent, while N $a^{+}$ content was intermediate of the parents. So, it seemed that salt tolerance is dominant over salt susceptibility. In $F_2$ of Pokkali/wx817 cross, genetic segregation of plant height, dry weight, $K^{+}$ content and N $a^{+}$ / $K^{+}$ ratio varied continuously and was biased onto Pokkali side, while that of N $a^{+}$ content showed normal distribution with intermediate mode. Broad-sense heritability of the characters ranged from 0. 604 to 0. 811. Genotypic and phenotypic correlation coefficients among them were relatively high.fficients among them were relatively high.h.h.

Studies on the Processing of Rapid- and Low Salt-Fermented Liquefaction of Sardine(Sardinops melanoslicta)(II) -Changes in Quility during Preheating and Fermentation Chopped Whole Sardine- (저식염 속성 정어리 발효 액화물 가공에 관한 연구(II) -마쇄육의 예열처리 및 숙성중의 품질변화-)

  • As a part of investigation to use sardine(Sardinops melanoslicta) more effectively as a food source, this study was undertaken the processing condition of rapid- and low salt-fermented liquefaction of sardine. To prepare rapid fermented products, the chopped whole sardine was added 8% NaCl and then preheating treatment at $40^{\circ}C,\;45^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$ in the manufactured fermenter(180L) for 9 hrs, and then fermentation at $33^{\circ}C$ for 90 days. The chemical changes such as amino nitrogen(amino-N), volatile basic nitrogen(VBN), and histamine in the hydrolysates of fermented sardine were analyzed as well as viable cell count and organoleptic evaluation during fermentation to compare the quality between control and preheating samples. During fermenting, the amino-N in the hydrolysates increased rapidly during the first 30 days and slowly thereafter. The highest content of amino-N appeared at 75 days in control sample and $60{\sim}75$ days in preheating samples. The changes of VBN in the hydrolysates increased rapidly during first 15 days in control samples and 30 days in preheating samples. However they were generally low level in preheating samples. Histamine content in the hydrolysates of the control samples increased markedly after 15 days, but preheating samples were generally low level, and then $75{\sim}90$ days of fermentation reached to the maximum which was about $2.0{\sim}3.0$ times lower than that of control samples. As for the organoleptic flavor evaluation, the control and preheating at $40^{\circ}C$ samples were unpleasant odor after 15 and 60 days, respectively. But preheating at $45^{\circ}\;and\;50^{\circ}$ samples were fresh odor after 90 days fermentation.

Growth and Abscisic Acid Changes of Creeping Thyme in the Exposure of NaCl and Drought (염 및 건조스트레스 하에서 포복형 백리향의 생육과 Abscisic Acid 농도변화)

  • Experimental purpose was to evaluate growth characteristic and abscisic acid (ABA) responses against salt/drought stresses. In the shoot biomass, creeping thyme was tolerated in mild NaCl stress, ranging 0 to 100 mM, while it was severely reduced in higher salinity. Under constant drought stress, the shoot biomass of creeping thyme showed a worse value compared to that of 100 mM NaCl treatment. Chlorophyll degradation was more severe in immature leaf than mature leaf under salt and drought stresses. In salt stress, immature leaf produced much amounts of ABA compared to mature leaf and also immature leaf showed faster increase of ABA than that of mature leaf. In drought stress, immature leaf responded to stress within 24 hours by the increase of ABA, while mature leaf responded to at 72 hours. Our results recommended that the optimal salinity level of creeping thyme was 50~100 mM NaCl.

Effect of Sodium Chloride Supplementation on Bone Metablism in Rats Consuming a Low Calcium Diet (저칼슘 식이 섭취시 식염첨가가 흰쥐의 골격대사에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effect of sodium cholride supplementation on bone metabolism in female rats consuming a low calcium diet. Twenty five female rats were divided into three dietary groups (control Na : 0.1038%, 1% Na : 1.036%, 2% Na : 2.072%). All experimental diets contained 0.27% Ca and were fed to rats with deionized water for 7 weeks. Bone mineral density(BMD) and bone mineral content(BMC) of total body, spine and femur were measured using energy x-ray absorptiometry(DEXA) by small animal software. Then Ca efficiency was calculated from BMD and BMC. Serum Ca, P, Na and urine Ca, P, Na were determined. Urinary pyridinoline, serum ALP were measured to monitor bone resorption. Following 7 weeks, sodium cholride supplemented groups had higher urinary Ca excreteion, urinary pyridinoline, crosslinks value and serum ALP. There was no significant difference in case of serum Ca among all groups. Sodium chloride supplemnted groups had lower Ca effciency of total, spine and femur BMD and BMC than that of control group. In conclusion high salt intake not only increases urinary Ca excretion as urinary Na excretion does but also increase bone resorption and decrease Ca efficiency of each bone. It is been suggested that high salt intake may be harmful for bone maintenance. Therfore, the decrease of salt intake to the level of recommendation would be desirable.
