다수 캐비티에서의 균형 충전을 위한 새로운 러너 시스템 (A New Runner System for Filling Balance in the Multi-Cavities Molds)

  • Almost all injection molds have multi-cavity runner system for mass production, which are designed with geometrically balanced runner system in order to accomplish filling balance between cavity to cavity during processing. However, even though geometrically balanced runner is used, filling imbalances have been observed. So, many studies for improving filling balance in the multi-cavities molds are worked up. In this study, the Melt-Buffer which is a new runner system for filling balance has been suggested, and a series of experiment about degree of filling balance in cavity-to-cavity was conducted in the mold with the Melt-Buffer. From the experiment, the filling balance was increased up to 5~6% by using the Melt-Buffer.

다수 빼기 사출성형에서 캐비티간 충전균형을 위한 새로운 런너의 설계 (A Novel Runner Design for Flow Balance of Cavities in Multi-Cavity Injection Molding)

  • 소형 플라스틱 부품들은 대부분 다수 캐비티 빼기 사출금형에서 성형된다. 이러한 다수 빼기 캐비티 금형에서의 사출성형은 캐비티간의 흐름 균형이 중요하다. 캐비티간 흐름의 불균형은 성형품의 캐비티간 물성 및 품질의 편차를 초래한다. 캐비티간의 흐름균형은 런너와 게이트에서의 흐름균형을 통하여 이루어지게 되는데 런너와 게이트에서 기하학적인 균형을 이루어도 열적 불균형으로 캐비티간 흐름의 불균형을 초래한다. 본 연구에서는 캐비티간 흐름의 균형을 위해 고안한 스크류 타입의 런너을 이용하여 캐비티간 충전균형을 고찰하였다. 여러 형태의 스크류 런너에서 결정성 수지와 비결정성 수지, 그리고 점도가 높은 수지와 점도가 낮은 수지를 이용하여 캐비티간 흐름을 관찰하였다. 흐름의 균형은 성형조건 중 사출속도에 따라 다르게 나타나기 때문에 사출속도를 변화해 가며 관찰하였다. 실험 결과를 성형해석과 비교 검토하였으며 서로 잘 일치함을 확인할 수 있었다. 스크류 런너에서 수지가 흐르면서 스크류 채널을 따라 회전운동을 하여 스크류 단면에서 온도가 균일하게 됨을 확인하였다. 그리구 이러한 균일한 온도 때문에 캐비티간 흐름 균형이 이루어지고 있음을 확인하였다. 결론적으로 실험에 사용된 새롭게 고안된 스크류 타입의 런너는 캐비티간 충전균형을 이루는데 매우 효과적임을 실험과 해석을 통해 검증할 수 있었다.

  • The runner-valve is an effective solution for the filling balance of the multi cavity molds. Automation of the runner-valve system is necessary for more efficient and accurate control of the filing balance. We designed an automatic runner-valve actuator for the automation and characterized the actuator by experiment. We obtained a linear relationship between motor-driving time and the height of the runner-valve. However, the motor-driving times for upward and downward directions were different due to the frictional characteristics of the actuators. Also we obtained the motor-driving times for backlashes of the 4 actuators. The results were used to formulate the relationship between the resin-arrival time and the flow rate change of the runner-valve with the theoretical equation that was derived in the previous research.

사출금형의 러너시스템 형상에 따른 균형 충전도 (Degree of Filling Balance according to Runner Shapes in Injection Mold)

  • Configuration of filling imbalance which is originated from imbalanced share rate of melt on runner is changed by runner layout, runner shape, material property, injection pressure, injection speed, melt temperature and mold temperature. In this paper, we conducted a study of runner layout and shape that are main factors of filling imbalance. Other factors such as the sharp corner effect and the groove corner effect are recently released were also considered. The results of study are showed that filling rate of between inside and outside cavity was influenced on shape of runner. Especially, this study suggests a new runner system for filling balance by adapting the two effects of unary branch type runner at multi cavity mold and theoretical investigated flow in the sharp corner type runner.

런너밸런스 알고리즘을 이용한 멀티캐비티 최적성형에 관한 연구 (A Study on The Optimum Design of Multi-Cavity Molding Parts Using The Runner Balance Algorithm)

  • The objective of this paper is to present a methodology for automatically balancing multi-cavity injection molds with the aid of flow simulation. After the runner and cavity layout has been designed, the methodology adjusts runner and gate sizes iteratively based on the outputs of flow analysis. This methodology also ensures that the runner sizes in the final design are machinable. To illustrate this methodology, an example is used wherein a 3-cavity mold is modeled and filling of all the cavities at the same time is achieved. Based on the proposed methodology, a multicavity mold with identical cavities is balanced to minimize overall unfilled volume among various cavities at discrete time steps of the molding cycle. The example indicates that the described methodology can be used effectively to balance runner systems for multi-cavity molds.

CAE를 이용한 TV Speaker Grille 사출 성형의 최적화 (Optimization Condition for Injection Molding of TV Speaker Grille Using CAE)

  • MOLDFLOW사의 CAE S/W를 사용하여 A사의 TV speaker grille의 최적 성형 조건을 도출하였는데 캐비티 안으로 충전되는 수지의 양을 조절하는 방법 중 flow balance, runner balance, 그리고 이 두 가지를 절충한 세 가지 방법으로 유동과 보압 해석을 수행하였다. 또한 실제로 각각의 온도별 점도와 전단속도를 측정한 결과(local database)를 이용하여 해석하고, standard database에 의한 해석결과와 비교 검토하였다. Speaker grille에서 flow balance는 성형품의 weld line을 최소화함으로써 양호한 외관과 weld line의 기계적 물성 저하를 최소화시켰으나, 제품 중앙부의 과충전으로 인한 과도한 변형이나 gas가 발생하는 단점이 나타났다. Runner balance는 각 gate로부터 사출되는 수지의 양을 균등하게 조절함으로써 flow balance의 단점을 보완하였으나, weld line의 외관과 기계적 물성이 저하하는 단점이 나타났다. 그러나 flow balance와 runner balance를 절충한 형태의 runner의 직경을 변형함으로써 두 방법이 가지는 단점을 보완하였다. 또한 각각의 온도에 대한 점도와 전단속도를 실측한 local database와 기존의 standard database에 의한 해석 결과를 비교한 결과, 실측의 점도가 다소 높게 측정되고 온도 분포의 편차가 넓게 나타났음에도 불국하고 두 data의 해석 결과는 거의 차이가 없음이 확인되었다.

  • It is well known that the family-mold has an advantage to reduce the cost for production and mold. However, defects are frequently occurred by over packing the smaller volume cavity during molding, especially whorl the family-mold has a volumetric difference between two cavities. In this study, we confirmed the cavity-filling imbalance by the temperature and the pressure sensors, and developed a variable-runner system for the cavity-filling balance. We carried out experiments fur balancing the cavity filling in the family-mold with the variable-runner system, and confirmed a balanced cavity-filing through analyzing the temperature and pressure change in each cavity as the cross-sectional area of the runner changed. We also examined the influence of the injection-speed to the balancing-capability of the variable-runner system in the experiment.

In this study, we made an experiment and surveyed that are filling balanced variation according to molding condition with thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV). Also, we conducted experiments in order to know the influence of filling balance for runner core pin (RC pin).

However, even though geometrically balanced runner is used, filling imbalance have been observed. Filling imbalance could be decreased by modifying processing conditions such as injections rate, mold temperature, injection pressure, melt temperature that are related to shear, viscosity. In this study, a series of experiment was conducted to investigate filling imbalance variation when modifying runner layout and ploymer and to determine which processing condition influences as the primary cause of filling imbalance in geometrically balanced runner system. The filling imbalance was desreased up to result range of $3{\leq}DFI{\leq}8(%)$ by using a new runner system for balanced filling.
