  • Recently, the pipeline-forwarding has been proposed as a new technique to resolve the end-to-end latency problem of the duty-cycle MAC protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Some protocols based on this technique such as PMAC and PRI-MAC have shown an improvement not only in terms of reducing end-to-end latency but also in terms of reducing power consumption. In these protocols, however, the sensor nodes still waste a significant amount of energy for unnecessary idle listening during contention period of upstream nodes to check the channel activity. This paper proposes a new pipeline-forwarding duty-cycle MAC protocol, named RP-MAC (Reduced Pipelined duty-cycle MAC), which tries to reduce the waste of energy. By taking advantage of ACK mechanism and shortening the handshaking procedure, RP-MAC minimizes the time for checking the channel and therefore reduces the energy consumption due to unnecessary idle listening. When comparing RP-MAC with the existing solution PRI-MAC and RMAC, our QualNet-based simulation results show a significant improvement in term of energy consumption.

  • Tactical Information Communication Network(TICN), a concept-type integrated Military Communication system that enables precise command control and decision making, is designed to advance into high speed, large capacity, long distance wireless relay transmission. To support mobility in battlefield environments, the application of Ad-hoc networking technology to its wireless communication has been examined. Ad-hoc network works properly only if the participating nodes cooperate in routing and packet forwarding. However, if selfish nodes not forwarding packets of other nodes and malicious nodes making the false accusation are in the network, it is faced to many threats. Therefore, detection and management of these misbehaving nodes is necessary to make confident in Ad-hoc networks. To solve this problem, we propose an efficient intrusion detection technique to detect and manage those two types of attacks. The simulation-based performance analysis shows that our approach is highly effective and can reliably detect a multitude of misbehaving node.

  • IPv6 and Ubiquitous Healthcare Environment (UHE) has become a main stream of the next generation technologies. IPv6 is designed in many ways with enhanced features such as a routing, mobility, scalability, QOS and security as a replacement of IPv4. Also, UHE is developed to provide patients with convenience and efficient healthcare services using the remote home healthcare system. However, IPv4 currently used as an Internet protocol does not have enough capability to fully support UHE. It may result in a restricted implementation of UHE. As a result, research on IPv6 implementations in UHE is increasingly becoming an issue within the healthcare industry. IPv6 has enhanced features to implement the remote healthcare system such as Neighbour Discovery process and address auto-configuration. In this paper, a basic of IPv6 and UHE will be firstly introduced and secondly, benefits brought by IPv6 in UHE will be discussed. In addition, security issues in IPv6 will be analysed to conclude this paper.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the signal integrity of a system interconnection module for a proposed high-density server. The proposed server integrates several components into a chassis. Therefore, the proposed server can access multiple computing resources. To support the system interconnection, among the highly integrated computing resources, the interconnection module, which is based on Serial RapidIO, has been newly adopted and supports a bandwidth of 800 Gbps while routing 160 differential signal traces. The module was designed for two different stack-up types on a printed circuit board. Each module was designed into 12- (version 1) and 14-layer (version 2) versions with thicknesses of 1.5T and 1.8T, respectively. Version 1 has a structure with two consecutive high-speed signal-layers in the middle of two power planes, whereas Version 2 has a single high-speed signal placed only in the space between two power planes. To analyze the signal integrity of the module, we probed the S-parameters, eye-diagrams, and crosstalk voltages. The results show that the high-speed signal integrity of Version 2 has a better quality than Version 1, even if the signal trace length is increased.

  • Many of companies have made significant improvements for globalization and competitive business environment The supply chain management has received many attentions in the area of that business environment. The purpose of this study is to generate realistic production and distribution planning in the supply chain network. The planning model determines the best schedule using operation sequences and routing to deliver. To solve the problem a hybrid approach involving a genetic algorithm (GA) and computer simulation is proposed. This proposed approach is for: (1) selecting the best machine for each operation, (2) deciding the sequence of operation to product and route to deliver, and (3) minimizing the completion time for each order. This study developed mathematical model for production, distribution, production-distribution and proposed GA-Simulation solution procedure. The results of computational experiments for a simple example of the supply chain network are given and discussed to validate the proposed approach. It has been shown that the hybrid approach is powerful for complex production and distribution planning in the manufacturing supply chain network. The proposed approach can be used to generate realistic production and distribution planning considering stochastic natures in the actual supply chain and support decision making for companies.

  • The emerging energy harvesting technology, which has been successfully integrated into Wireless Sensor Networks, enables sensor batteries to be charged using renewable energy sources. In the meantime, the problem of Minimum Latency Aggregation Scheduling (MLAS) in battery-powered WSNs has been well studied. However, because sensors have limited energy harvesting capabilities, captured energy is limited and varies greatly between nodes. As a result, all previous MLAS algorithms are incompatible with Battery-Free Wireless Sensor Networks (BF-WSNs). We investigate the MLAS problem in BF-WSNs in this paper. To make the best use of the harvested energy, we build an aggregation tree that leverages the energy harvesting rates of the sensor nodes with an intuitive explanation. The aggregation tree, which determines sender-receiver pairs for data transmission, is one of the two important phases to obtain a low data aggregation latency in the BF-WSNs.

  • An Electronic Document Management System(EDMS) is an electronic system solution that is used to create, capture, distribute, edit, store and manage documents and related structured data repositories throughout an organization. Recently, documents of any type, such as text, images, and video files, and structured databases can be controlled and managed by an office automation system and an EDMS. Thus, many organizations are already using these information technologies to reduce process cycle-times. But what the organizations are missing is a integrated system the current workflow or office automation system and provides immediate access to and automatic routing of the organization's mission-critical information. This study tried to find out the user's requirements for integrating current information system and relatively new technology, electronic document management system in order to improve business operations, productivity and quality, and reduces waste. integration of electronic document management system(EDMS) and office automation system and proper use of these technological will improve organization's processes, and compress the process cycle-times. For this study a case study was done by a project team in cooperation with a government organization(say A company). Through this case study valuable electronic document management and office automation system requirement have been identified and reported for providing a system model in order to design an Integrated EDMS(IMDMS).

  • In this study, we applied the Radar-AWS Rainrates (RAR), weather radar-based quantitative precipitation estimations (QPEs), to the Yongdam study watershed in order to perform the flood runoff simulation and calculate the inflow of the dam during flood events using hydrologic model. Since the Yongdam study watershed is a representative area of the mountainous terrain in South Korea and has a relatively large number of monitoring stations (water level/flow) and data compared to other dam watershed, an accurate analysis of the time and space variability of radar rainfall in the mountainous dam watershed can be examined in the flood modeling. HEC-HMS, which is a relatively simple model for adopting spatially distributed rainfall, was applied to the hydrological simulations using HEC-GeoHMS and ModClark method with a total of eight independent flood events that occurred during the last five years (2014 to 2018). In addition, two NCL and Python script programs are developed to process the radar-based precipitation data for the use of hydrological modeling. The results demonstrate that the RAR QPEs shows rather underestimate trends in larger values for validation against gauged observations (R2 0.86), but is an adequate input to apply flood runoff simulation efficiently for a dam watershed, showing relatively good model performance (ENS 0.86, R2 0.87, and PBIAS 7.49%) with less requirements for the calibration of transform and routing parameters than the spatially averaged model simulations in HEC-HMS.

  • The Sensor Networks have limitations in utilizing energies, developing energy-efficient routing protocol and secure routing protocol are important issues in Sensor Network. In the field of data management, Tributaries and Deltas(TD) which incorporates tree topology and multi-path topology effectively have been suggested to provide efficiency and robustness in data aggregation. And our research rendered hierarchical property to TD and proposed Clustering-based Tributaries-Deltas. Through this new structure, we integrated efficiency and robustness of TD structure and advantages of hierarchical Sensor Network. Clustering-based Tributaries-Deltas was proven to perform better than TD in two situations through our research. The first is when a Base Station (BS) notices received information as wrong and requests the network's sensing data retransmission and aggregation. And the second is when the BS is mobile agent with mobility. In addition, we proposed key establishment mechanism proper for the newly proposed structure which resulted in new Sensor Network structure with improved security and energy efficiency as well. We demonstrated that the new mechanism is more energy-efficient than previous one by analyzing consumed amount of energy, and realized the mechanism on TmoteSKY sensor board using TinyOS 2.0. Through this we proved that the new mechanism could be actually utilized in network design.

  • To efficiently carry out the flood management of a multipurpose dam, two flood forecasting models are developed, each of which has the capabilities of forecasting upstream inflows and flood discharges downstream of a dam, respectively. The models are calibrated, validated, and evaluated by comparison of the observed and the runoff forecasts upstream and downstream of Namgang Dam. The upstream inflow forecasting model is based on the Grey system theory and employs the sixth order differential equation. By comparing the inflows forecasted by the models calibrated using different data sets with the observed in validation, the most appropriate model is determined. To forecast flood discharges downstream of a dam, a Grey model is integrated with a modified Muskingum flow routing model. A comparison of the observed and the forecasted values in validation reveals that the model can provide good forecasts for the dam's flood management. The applications of the two models to forecasting floods in real situations show that they provide reasonable results. In addition, it is revealed that to enhance the prediction accuracy, the models are necessary to be calibrated and applied considering runoff stages; the rising, peak, and falling stages.
