In this paper, a novel 12/8 segmental rotor type switched reluctance motor (SRM) is proposed for cooling fan applications. Unlike conventional structures, the rotor of the proposed structure is constructed from a series of discrete segments, and the stator is constructed from two types of stator poles: exciting and auxiliary poles. Moreover, in this structure, short flux paths are taken and no flux reversion exists in the stator. While the auxiliary poles are not wound by the windings, which only provide the flux return path. When compared with the conventional SRM, the proposed structure increases the electrical utilization of the machine and decreases the core losses, which may lead to a higher efficiency. To verify the proposed structure, the finite element method (FEM) and Matlab-Simulink are employed to get the static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed SRM. Finally, a prototype of the proposed motor was tested for characteristic comparisons.
This paper deals with the detail rotordynamic analysis for BB5 eight stages pump as development of API 610 BB5 type pump. Dry-run analytical model, not considering operating fluid, and wet-run analytical model, considering operating fluid are established. In addition, plain circular and pressure dam bearings are chosen and it was discussed that each bearing has an effect on dynamic characteristics of pump rotor system. A rotordynamic analysis includes the critical speed map, Campbell diagram, stability, and unbalance response. As results, it was predicted that rated speed of the pump rotor passes through 1st critical speed in dry-run condition regardless of bearings, however, it was verified that, in wet-run condition, the rotor system doesn't have critical speeds even if more than twice rated speed. Hence the resonance problem caused by the critical speeds does not happen since actual operating is in wet-run condition including operating fluid. As a result of unbalance response analysis, the pump rotor has stable vibration response at rated speed, regardless of operating fluid and the proposed bearing types.
This paper presents the investigation of two types of rotordynamic modeling issues for 2.2 kW-class, rated speed of 1,800 rpm, squirrel-cage type induction motors. These issues include the lamination structure of rotor cores, and the radial clearance of ball bearings that support the shaft of the motor. Firstly, we focus on identifying the effects of rotor core lamination on the rotordynamic analysis via a 2D prediction model. The influence of lamination is considered as the change in the elastic modulus of the rotor core, which is determined by a modification factor ranging from 0 to 1.0. The analysis results show that the unbalanced response of the rotor-bearing system significantly varies depending on the value of the modification factor. Through modal testing of the system, the modification factor of 0.079 is proven to be appropriate to consider the effects of lamination. Next, we investigate the influence of ball bearing clearance on the rotordynamic analysis by establishing a bearing analysis model based on Hertz's contact theory. The analysis results indicate that negative clearance greatly changes the bearing static behavior. Rotordynamic analysis using predicted bearing stiffness with various clearances from -0.005 mm to 0.010 mm reveals that variations in clearance result in a slight difference in the displacement of the system up to 18.18. Thus, considering lamination in rotordynamic analysis is necessary as it can cause serious analysis errors in unbalanced response. However, considering the effect of the bearing clearance is optional because of its relatively weak impact.
This paper presents a comparison of the characteristics by two types of switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives using search coils, Exterior pole search coil and Interior central pole search coil, which are used for estimation of the rotor position. The advantages and disadvantages of the two types of drive methods are also described.

The growing application and the numerous qualities of induction motors (1M) in industrial processes that require high security and reliability levels has led to the development of multiple methods for early fault detection. However, various faults can occur, such as stator short-circuits and rotor failures. Traditionally the diagnosis machine is done through a sinusoidal power supply, in the present paper we study experimentally the effects of the rotor failures, such as broken rotor bars in function of the ac supplying, the load and show the impact of the converter from diagnosis of the machine. The technique diagnosis used is based on the spectral analysis of stator currents or stator voltages respectively according to the types of induction motor ac supplying. So, four different ac supplying are considered: ${\odot}$ the IM is directly by the balanced three-phase network voltage source, ${\odot}$ the IM is fed by a sinusoidal current source given the controlled by hysteresis, ${\odot}$ the IM is fed (in open loop) by a scalar control imposing through ratio V/f=constant, ${\odot}$ the IM is controlled through a vector control using space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique inverter with an outer speed loop.
In order to develop an precision aerial pesticide application system to be attached to an unmanned helicopter which can be applied to small lots of land, this study analyzed the flowing and spraying characteristics of the spray droplets by the main rotor downwash by setting the application conditions at the flight altitude of 3 m, the diameter of main rotor of 3.1 m, the boom length of around 2.8 m, and the spraying rate of 8 L/ha. The results of this study are summarized below. Through analysis of the covering area ratio of the spray droplets by main rotor downwash by nozzle type, boom with tilt angle and height, it was found that the covering area ratio of the twin flat-fan nozzle of around 25% was more uniform than other types of nozzle, also boom with $10^{\circ}$ tilt angle and spraying height of 3 m was shown to be the appropriate conditions for aerial application of pesticides. It was found that the nozzle position to minimize the scattering loss of spray droplets due to vortex phenomenon at both ends of the main rotor was around 10 cm from the end of the main rotor. An application test for the aerial pesticide application system attached to the HUA-ACEI unmanned helicopter developed by the Rural Development Administration showed that the range of covering area ratio of the spray droplets was 10-25%, and the spraying width was approximately 7 m when over 10% of covering area ratio was considered for valid spraying.

In recent times, turbomolecular pumps (TMPs) have been used frequently to generate and maintain high and clean vacuum. Because of the high-speed rotation of the rotor, its structural safety should be treated as the first design concern. This paper presents the structural analysis and optimization of rotor blades of a TMP. To increase the numerical efficiency in the finite element modeling and analysis, the P-method provided in Pro/ENGINEER was used for simulation. The structural responses for several types of rotor blades were investigated, and the effects of the blade angle, blade length, and round size are thoroughly studied for each type of TMP blade. In addition, structural optimization to reduce and even the maximum stress at each stage of the TMP by changing the size of rounds between the blade and the hub was performed very successfully by using the P-method.
Microturbomachinery (< 250 kW) using gas foil bearings can function without oil lubricants, simplify rotor-bearing systems, and demonstrate excellent rotordynamic stability at high speeds. State-of-the-art technologies generally use bump foil bearings or leaf foil bearings due to the specific advantages of each of the two types. Although these two types of bearings have been studied extensively, there are very few studies on leaf-bump foil bearings, which are a combination of the two aforementioned bearings. In this work, we illustrate a simple mathematical model of the leaf-bump foil bearing with leaf foils supported on bumps, and predict its static and dynamic performances. The analysis uses the simple elastic model for bumps that was previously developed and verified using experimental data, adds a leaf foil model, and solves the Reynolds equation for isothermal, isoviscous, and ideal gas fluid flow. The model predicts that the drag torques of the leaf-bump foil bearings are not affected significantly by static load and bearing clearance. Due to the preload effect of the leaf foils, rotor spinning, even under null static load, generates significant hydrodynamic pressure with its peak near the trailing edge of each leaf foil. A parametric study reveals that, while the journal eccentricity and minimum film thickness decrease, the drag torque, direct stiffness, and direct damping increase with increasing bump stiffness. The journal attitude angle and cross-coupled stiffness remain nearly constant with increasing bump stiffness. Interestingly, they are significantly smaller compared to the corresponding values obtained for bump foil bearings, thus, implying favorable rotor stability performance.
In this study, the noise contributions by the duct, stator and rotor, which are the propulsor components, are evaluated to identify the flow noise source in cavitation and non-cavitation conditions on pumpjet propulsion and the noise levels in both conditions are compared. The unsteady incompressible Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation based on the homogeneous mixture assumption is applied on the suboff submarine hull and pumpjet propeller in the cavitation tunnel, and the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method and Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model are used to describe the two-phase flow. Based on the flow simulation results, the acoustic analogy formulated by Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW-H) equation is applied to predict the underwater radiated noise. The noise contributions are evaluated by using the three types of impermeable integral surface on the duct, stator and rotor, and the two types of permeable integral surface surrounding the propulsor. As a result of noise prediction, the contribution by the stator is insignificant, but it affects the generation of flow noise source due to flow separation in the duct and rotor, and the noise is predominantly radiated into the upward and right where the flow separations are. Also, the noise is radiated into the thrust direction due to pressure fluctuation between suction and pressure sides on the rotor blades, and the it can be seen that the cavitation effect into the noise can be considered through the permeable integral surface.

The numerous benefits of Savonius turbine such as simple in structure, has appropriate self-start ability, relatively low operating velocity, water acceptance from any direction and low environmental impact have generated interests among researchers. However, it suffers from a lower efficiency compared to other types of water turbine. To improve its performance, parameters such flow pattern, pressure and velocity in different conditions must be analyzed. For this purpose, a detailed description on the flow field of various types of Savonius rotors is required. This article presents a numerical study on a nonlinear two-dimensional flow over a classic Savonius type rotor and a Benesh type rotor. In this experiment, sliding mesh was used for solving the motion of the bucket. The unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations were solved for velocity and pressure coupling by using the SIMPLE (Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure linked Equations) algorithm. Other than that, the turbulence model using $k-{\varepsilon}$ standard obtained good results. This simulation demonstrated the method of the flow field characteristics, the behavior of velocity vectors and pressure distribution contours in and around the areas of the bucket.
