The vibration characteristics of rotating machinery are directly related withits condition such as rotor types, thereby it should be acquired the information fromthe vibration signal so that operating conditions may be rationally decided.Accordingly, the study is to focus on developing the analysis for identifying theoperational feature of rotor systems. For this purpose the complex frequencyanalysis for identification, which utilizes the directionaI spectrum for effectiveidentification of rotor systems, is introduced. From this proposed method, theanalysis of dynamic model of the rotors is performed including the stabilitybehavior of the general rotor by Ftoquet theory. Through this process theexcitation methodology to identify the types of rotors is investigated and theeffective way to identification is also suggested.
In this paper, it was described the current technology status of bearingless rotor hub system for helicopter which is one of major rotor hub system. Also, a conceptual study on the new bearingless rotor hub system of helicopter was described. First, the advantages and disadvantages of major helicopter rotor hub system are described in comparison to each other types of rotor hub system. The unique characteristics of bearingless rotor hub system are described compared to other types of rotor hub systems. Next, the main function, role and characteristics of the sub-components of bearingless rotor hub system are described. Recent helicopters which adopt this bearingless rotor hub system are described and introduced. This conceptual study shows that double-H sectional construction and rectangular construction of flexbeam are the most effective candidates of this new bearingless rotor system. This bearingless rotor hub system can be used for 7,000lbs class helicopter. Now, a further trade-off study will show.

This paper addresses the performance of three different types of attitude control systems for the Quad-rotor UAV to perform the flip maneuver. For this purpose, Quad-rotor UAV's 6-DOF dynamic model is derived, and it was used for designing an attitude controller of the Quad-rotor UAV. Attitude controllers are designed by three different methods. One is the open-loop control system design, another is the PD control system design, and the last method is the sliding mode control system design. Performances of all controllers are tested by 6-DOF simulation. In case of the open-loop control system, control inputs are calculated by the quad-rotor dynamic model and thrust system model that are identified by the thrust test. The 6-DOF realtime simulation environment was constructed in order to verify the performances of attitude controllers.
Nonlinear dynamic characteristics of rubbing phenomenon in rotor dynamics are investigated experimentally and numerically. Rubbing phenomenon occurs when rotor contacts with stator during whirling and causes the large amplitude of vibration, high whirl frequencies, and possibly catastrophic failure. Rubbing has various types of forward whirl, backward rolling, backward slipping, and partial rub depending on the system parameters of rotating machinery and running speed. Experiments are performed for forward whirl and backward whirl. And numerical analysis are conducted to explain the changes between backward rolling and backward slipping. Experimental and numerical results show that the types of whirling motion depends on the friction coefficient between rotor and stator and the eccentricity of rotor.
Rotor of rotating machinery is the highly damaged part. Fault of 7 different types was confirmed as the main causes of rotor damage from the pump failure history data in domestic and U.S. nuclear. For each fault types, simulation testing was performed and fault signals were collected form the sensors. To calculate the statistical parameters of time-domain & frequency-domain, measured signals were analyzed by using the discrete wavelet transform, fast fourier transform, statistical analysis. Total 84 parameters were obtained. And Effectiveness factor were used to evaluate the discrimination capacity of each parameter. From the effectiveness factor, RAW-P4/RAW-P7/WT2-NNL/WT2-EE/WT1-P1 showed high ranking. Finally, these parameters were selected as the feature parameters of intelligent fault diagnostics for rotor.
In this study, two types of switched reluctance motors (SRMs) with segmental rotors are presented in detail. The first is a 6/5 segmental rotor type, whereas the second is a 12/8 segmental rotor type. Both motor types have the same stator, rotor, and winding configurations. The stator is constructed with special stator poles, namely, exclusively designed exciting and auxiliary poles. The rotor is constructed from a series of discrete segments, each of which is embedded into the nonmagnetic isolator. The windings are only wound on the exciting poles, and no winding is wound on the auxiliary poles. Given these configurations, short flux paths and high flux-linkage utilization rate are achieved in the proposed motors, which may reduce the magnetomotive force requirement and increase the electrical utilization of a machine. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed motors, their characteristics, such as magnetic flux distribution, flux-linkage, torque, radial force, and efficiency, are analyzed and compared with those of a conventional 12/8 SRM. Meanwhile, two prototypes, one for each proposed segmental rotor type, are also designed and manufactured. Finally, the validity of the proposed motors is further verified by test results.
In this study, we performed finite element analysis for the design of a medical centrifuge and two-types of centrifuge were compared with each other. The types of centrifuge are 2-arm straight type and 3-arm type. Structural analysis was done with respect to the change of the rotational speed of the rotor of a centrifuge. When the rotor of centrifuge was rotated, the von Mises stress of 2-arm straight type-rotor was compared with the von Mises stress of 3-arm type. The margin of safety was estimated from the result. We found the critical speed of centrifuge from the campbell diagram by modal analysis.
In this paper, two types of switched reluctance motors (SRMs) with segmental rotors are presented in detail. One is 6/5 segmental rotor type; the other is 12/8 segmental rotor type. The rotor is constructed from a series of discrete segments, each of which is embedded in the magnetic isolator. The windings are only wound on the exciting poles, and no windings are wound on the auxiliary poles. These structures result in short flux path and high flux-linkage utilization in the proposed motors, which may reduce the magneto motive force (MMF) requirement and increase the electrical utilization of the machine. To verify the proposed two structures, the characteristics of the proposed two types are analyzed and compared with that of conventional 12/8 SRM.

Severe flexural vibration of the rotor shaft of a Francis turbine runner was experienced in the past. It was shown that the vibration was caused by the fluid forces and moments on the backshroud of the runner associated with the leakage flow through the back chamber. The aim of the present paper is to study the self-excited rotor vibration caused by the fluid force moments on the backshroud of a Francis turbine runner. The rotor vibration includes two fundamental motions, one is a whirling motion which only has a linear displacement and the other is a precession motion which only has an angular displacement. Accordingly, two types of fluid force moment are exerted on the rotor, the moment due to whirl and the moment due to precession. The main focus of the present paper is to clarify the contribution of each moment to the self-excited vibration of an overhung rotor. The runner was modeled by a disk and the whirl and the precession moments on the backshroud of the runner caused by the leakage flow were evaluated from the results of model tests conducted before. A lumped parameter model of a cantilevered rotor was used for the vibration analysis. By examining the frequency, the damping rate, the amplitude ratio of lateral and angular displacements for the cases with longer and shorter overhung rotor, it was found that the precession moment is more important for smaller overhung rotors and the whirl moment is more important for larger overhung rotors, although both types of moment due to the leakage flow can cause self-excited vibration of an overhung rotor.

Tilt rotor-wing concept to show enhanced performance in low speed mission is presented. Three types of stud wings on the existing tilt rotor configuration are suggested and their characteristics are compared. Aerodynamic analysis indicates that the stud wing concept gives significant performance improvement on the endurance and range in the low speed regime when compared with the tilt rotor. Penalties of the stud wing are discussed from the perspectives of conversion corridor, structural weight, configuration design, and cross wind stability. This study concludes that the advantage of the stud wing in general UAV mission performance is so significant as to surpass the penalties in other perspectives investigated.
