  • A virtual prototype (VP) model of the rotor-to-stator rub of the rotor system is established to study the nonlinear vibration characteristics. The non-linear bearing stiffness is considered to approximate to an actual system in the model. In order to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a special structure of stator is designed to simulate different kinds of rub condition. The results of experiment are well consistent with the results of simulation by VP. The vibration characteristics of rub-impact are well observed by VP model under different conditions. Based on the validated model, the torsional vibration of rub-impact is discussed. The contribution of this paper is to provide one new approach to study rub-impact problem. Based on the validated VP model, the more research can be done for incident fault identification.

  • Experimental investigations were carried out on an Axi-symmetric Body Model fitted with Pump-jet Propulsor (PJP) in the Cavitation Tunnel at Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL). The tests were intended for evaluating the propulsion characteristics of the body and propulsor. The self propulsion point of the model for two configurations was determined after finding the corrections for tunnel blockage effects and differences in model length at zero trim. The results were found to match closely with the towing tank results. The rotor and stator torques also matched closely over full range of experiment. Further experiments were carried out on the body at $4.5^{\circ}$ angle of trim to investigate the propulsive performance and assess the operational difficulties in the sea. The results indicated an increase in resistance and decrease in rotor thrust; but the balance of torques between the rotor and stator was undisturbed, causing no concern to vehicle roll.

  • In this paper, We present the transient analysis method of induction motor by TDFE(Time Domain Finite Element) method. For simulation of transient performance, Maxwell's equations are solved using 2-Dimensional TDFE method, and the circuit equations from the stator and rotor are solved simultaneously. The time derivatives are discretized with Euler scheme and the Newton-Raphson iteration method is applied to a large system of equations which are representing the whole magnetic and feeding circuit equations because of the magnetic nonlinearity of the stator and rotor core. The presented method is applied to three phase induction motor. And we obtained the phase currents, torque and rotor position until the steady state.

  • This paper propose a improved parameter estimations of five-phase squirrel-cage induction motor(IM) for speed control system on field oriented control(FOC). In order to high performance control of ac the motors using a FOC and DTC(direct torque control) algorithm, there are required precise motor parameters for slip calculation, flux observer, controller gain, rotor position and speed estimation, and so on. We are suggest a estimation method of the motor parameters that developing five-phase squirrel-cage IM have a stator of concentrated winding for experimental. There are results of stator winding test, no-load test, locked rotor test, and obtained equivalent circuits using manufactured experimental apparatus. For presenting the superior performance of the speed control system in adapted the parameters, experimental results are presented using a 32-bit fixed point TMS320F2812 DSP with 1.5[KW] IM.

  • Proposed slotless PM machine is constructed without stator winding slots. Its stator magnetic material is in the form of a ring and winding have a toroidal configuration and its rotor consists of a 4-pole Halbach array or radially magnetized PM rotor. Thus, airgap flux density distribution and induced emf waveform are essentially sinusoidal. Open circuit magnetic fields and developed torque of each type are presented from the analytical method and finite element method.

  • The effects of sensor faults on motor variables and control performance in induction motor drives are analyzed by both theoretical approach and simulation study, Vector control and direct torque control method for induction motor are well known. To control speed or position, the informations on rotor speed and rotor or stator flux are required in these control algorithms. The speed is measured by encoder. and the rotor or stator flux is estimated using motor parameters and measured currents. The control input generated based on the information from a faulted sensor should be far from the desired value and deteriorates the overall control performance.

  • A nonlinear adaptive speed controller is designed for induction motors. Only the measurement of the stator current is used to design the controller and the observers. The sliding mode cascade observer is introduced to estimate the stator current and its time derivatives. The open-loop observer are designed to estimate the rotor flux and its time derivatives. The adaptive observer is also designed to estimate the rotor resistance. Sequentially, the rotor speed can be calculated using these estimated values. It is shown that the estimation errors of the corresponding states and the parameter converge to the specified residual set. It is also shown that the speed controller using these estimates is performed well. The experimental results are represented to investigate the validity of the proposed observer and controller.

  • This paper presents numerical and experimental results of modal parameter identification in a generator stator frame for 500 MW fossil power plants. A commercial finite element analysis S/W was employed for modal analysis. The generator is excited by alternating electromagnetic forces, mainly of 120 Hz in 60 Hz machines, due to magnetic field and electric current in windings. It is necessary to verify that the stator frame has adequate frequency margin from the excitation frequency to avoid possible resonance when operating. Thus, frequency margin required for the stator frame is established using the numerical and experimental results. The results show that the stator frame meets the frequency-margin requirements. Also, results of modal analysis for design modification in order to reduce weights of the stator frame without deteriorating vibration characteristics are presented.

  • This paper deals with the modal analysis and the displacement of stator due to electromagnetic forces in Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM). A free-free model of the stator based on structural 3-dimensional Finite Element Method(FEM) is used for investigation the natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the stator. In addition, The displacement caused by magnetic force acting on stator pole is analyzed by the structural FEM coupled with the magnetic force. From these results, the resonance speed is obtained by the relation of the natural frequencies of the harmonic frequencies of magnetic force. And, the eccentricity with respect to rotor is predicted from the analysis result of the mechanical displacement of stator. The natural frequencies of stator are compared with experimental ones measured by modal testing.
