Romanticism factors in fashion since the 1990s is more about feminine softness and grace, and suggests the image of a fantastic cute and lovable girl with dreams. This study examined romanticism in literature focusing on the 19th century, which is considered the time of romanticism, and examined romanticism in men's fashion since the 1990s based on the newly found characteristics of romanticism. Romanticism in men's fashion since the 1990s can be divided into three categories of individual sensitivity pursuing romanticism, romanticism with a desire to aspire, and resistance inclined romanticism. First, individual sensitivity pursuing romanticism is the type that places importance on expression of emotions based on the values on individuals, and was expressed as either romanticism with sexual charm or as romanticism with an extremely feminine taste. Second, romanticism with a desire to aspire was the most prominent romanticism fashion type in men's fashion since the 1990s and it can be divided into four categories of aspiration of nature and time, aspiration of the past and romanticism, aspiration of childhood and aspiration of new exotic cultures. Third, resistance inclined romanticism was expressed as romanticism that is inclined to resist against materialism and romanticism that resists against youth culture.

The purpose of this study was to investigate girlish fashion as a contemporary as well as Romanticism of the 21st century. The background of girlish fashion is regarded as a hot blast of restoration and a appearance of kidults, such characteristics of these factors, that is, the moderns's longing for the memory of old days and kidult's concerns for the dream of their childhood, have a direct influence on the Romanticism. So the plasticity of girlish fashion was analyzed as a results: 1) This plasticity named Recurrent Romanticism as 21st New Look, especially the plasticity represented in a princess style fashion. The princess style fashion of girlish fashion means not only a expression of the moderns's self-confidence but also nostalgia toward old days. 2) Sweet Romanticism developed into angel style fashion, which the style expressed the moderate cuteness with clothing construction and detail etc and the innocence with white color. 3) The plasticity of girlish fashion called a feast of color named Fantastic Romanticism. Fantastic Romanticism of girlish fashion means not only a expression of a lovely girlie's image but also hope toward 21st century. Throughout the study, Romanticism as a cultural code of 21st century was considered to reflected in the whole livelihood as well as contemporary fashion, especially, girlish fashion.

The purpose of this study is to offer a new inspiration for fashion design relating the "Romanticism" in art to one in fasion-examining the circumstance expressionad the latest trend which is involved with it. Second Avantgrde mood in Romanticism is mainly represented in the oriental patterns colors items being motivated by Eastern customs images and cultures. Today they appear in modern concept reinterpreting 'fusion" "hybrid" and "cross-over". Romanticism in fashion is creating new forms and beauties absorbing the past and the present. In addition it is motivated by the nostalgic mood. the expectation for the future and the refineent. The past Romanticism, which emphasized loveful, womanish property, has changed into new-concept Romanticism as it was harmonized with various emotional cultures and trends in the 21st century. New-concept romanticism is found in various fields ranging from personality, diversity and discrimination to emotion. It is appearing as a new style searching for taste as it is mixed and matched with other fields. In fashion, Romanticism and mix-and-match trend provide womanish feeling through the match with romantic chiffon, high-waisted pants and cashmere cardigan and show modern emotion through vest and short blazer. Therefore, it is necessary to reconsider the method to analyze and express fashion emotion style on the basis of mix-and-match trend of Romanticism. The purpose of this study is to analyze how Romanticism is expressed in the mix and match with other emotional style, predict direction of Romanticism style and establish the ground to find changing fashion trend accurately. The researcher expects that design development will be focused on the fashion, which is more various and characteristic and search for convenient, healthy life, on the basis of the analysis on mix and match shown in Romanticism fashion of the study. The researcher tried to provide the base of design development and assist design activation by using mix and match, which can create various new styles, accurately and understanding and predicting the fashion trend of the 21st century.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the style of romanticism in fashion. Romanticism is advocating the conception called the respect of diversity and individuality in the modern society dominated by postmodernism trying to accept the various values.. In this study, the characteristics of romanticism are examined through the bibliographies on philosophy, aesthetics, architecture and art. In fashion. 19C is based on the costume history books and pictures. The characteristics of romanticism in literature and art which are applied to fashion are sensuality, ornament, exoticism and complexity. On the basis of these characteristics, the 19C fashion of romanticism are analyzed as follows. ㆍ Sensuality to emphasize sexual region of woman's body and to make ‘X’ silhouette is through exaggeration and exposure. This is the characteristic to relieve femininity. ㆍ Ornamentation is expressed in the gorgeous color and the varied material. details and trimming to add the fantastic mood, and the accessory to express the aristocratic elegance. This is a very important characteristic that produces the fantastic and romantic mood. ㆍExoticism to express aspiration for East is expressed either in items or accessories imported from the East. or in exotic material and pattern. This is the characteristic of fashion to express the desire to escape from the reality in the mysterious mood. ㆍMingler is expressed, contrasting or harmonizing the various patterns, color, material in a fashion by the textile with the rich color and print of the various feeling and many trimming. This is the external characteristic of the romanticism fashion combined the experimental mind of the technical progress with the romantic trend in those days. These characteristics of romanticism fashion in the 19th century presented with the various phenomena by working complexly rather than independently.

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of romanticism which is expressed in the latest trend and to explain them focused on anti-realistic yearning. As the method of the study, a literature review was conducted. Romanticism started from a complaint against reality and denied the previous era's philosophy and aesthetics. Romanticism placed much value on emotions and imagination. Also, the characteristics of romanticism art contains the yearning for nature, far culture, far past and supernatural world, by escaping from the complex reality which gives disillusionment. Such the characteristic can be easily found in the modern trend. Modern people, who live in the situation that the society is changed into the information society from the industrial society, have clung to the past things because they feel that the known and guaranteed world is finished. And they want to experience the new and various culture and nature escaping from insecurity on complicated reality. Also, the desire of modern people who want to escape from a daily routine world and the reality's limitations is expressed as the yearning for the supernatural world.

It is interesting that the costume in the period of romanticism was very fantastic and peculiar in its aspects. The romanticism in the fashion theme of these days' mode represents the image of this France romanticism. Costume has unseparable relations with the style of art in the same period. Especially, plastic art has logical connection with costume because it is an art through silhouette, line, color and texture felt by visional and solid feelings. This kind of study is important in order to understand the fashion of today, to anticipate the fashion in future and to get recognition of costume as a genre of arts. This study is to analyse and compare the general features in the grown-ups' everyday clothes of France from 1815 to 1850 when costume in the period of romanticism reached its peaks with the art of architecture, paintings, sculpture and technology, with the aid of documentary recordings. The above study explain that costume is expressed by the same plastic art of the period if it coexists in the same cultural background. Finally, we can plan the costume in future on an artistic dimension by understanding correctly the characteristics of plastic art which modern costume pursue from an artistic point of view.

The purpose of this study is to understand how 19th Century's romanticism fashion is expressed in modern fashion and to investigate their relationship. The materials for study of Post-modern fashion after the 1990s are collected and analyzed from ${\ulcorner}Gap\;Collections{\lrcorner}$. The characteristics of romanticism such as sensuality, ornamentation, exoticism and mingler, which were demonstrated in the previous study, are analyzed as follows in the modern fashion. ${\cdot}$Sensuality was represented by exaggerating the human body with silhouette of past romantic fashion, making the human body mysterious with see-through material including romantic patterns and ornaments, and emphasizing human body line using thin drape-like materials. ${\cdot}$Ornamentation was created by combining skills brought from the past with newly developed techniques and materials so that it provides gorgeousness. ${\cdot}$Exoticism was expressed in more diverse exotic patterns, colors, accessories and details because of accelerated internationalization. ${\cdot}$Mingler was achieved by using materials which does not seem to be suitable for romanticism, and mixing of contrastive or heterogeneous patterns and materials. It was caused by the scientific development and trend of respecting diversity. Romanticism increases the diversity and possibility of new point of views in fashion, It also shows the desires to seek inner peace adopting images of different periods and culture.

This study was attempted to check period of a fashion cycle and to suggest its main-stream and sub-stream by analyzing the fashion trends presented in Vogue Korea between 1997 and 2002. A content analysis method was used to analyze 24 volumes. The result showed that the fashion trend of 1997's was a turning point from the simplicity, which was a trend up to 1996's, to the romanticism. The fashion trends of 2002 seemed to be also a turning point from the new-romanticism which was added the hippism to the romanticism continued from 1997, to the sporticism. The result confirmed that the main-stream of fashion theme have been continued for 5 years as a regular cycle system and could be repeated. It also verified that some sub-stream which was affected by social, cultural and political situation led the fashion changes. The results of this study could be expected to reflect not only fashion design, merchandising and marketing strategy but also consumer purchase behavior of the future.
