Nursing role tends to be more complex then before because of the increased number of health professionals and of the health needs of patient. Accordingly, nursing role expectations are various and sometimes conflict by its role set. There are various literatures on role conflict of nurses and discussed how to eliminate the conflict in order to improve nursing service particularly in the hospital organization. This study was designed to determine if role conflict exist among nurses who work in a hospital and if so what resolution were most frequently selected by the nurses to the role conflict. The study population was fifty six registered nurses of K university hospital. The fifty six was defined and selected by nonproportional stratified sampling method to obtain subjects who are from uniform role set. A questionnaire, a list of role connect, stimulated by the literature review, knowledge based on several years' experience in nursing was formulated by the author and administered to the study population. The questionnaire included twenty nine closed question items of role conflict and classified according to the intra sender conflict, intersender conflict, person conflict and interperson conflict. The response choices to the questions range on a scale continuum with degrees of conflict from one to five: never - 0, seldom - 1, occasionally - 2, frequently - 3, and mostly -4. Per cent, means, standard deviation, and x² -test were used to analyze data. The findings of the study could be summarized as follows. 1. General characterstics of the study population: Most of the population were between the age of 22-27 and are not married. 2. Analysis of Role conflict Existence of Role conflict of nurses was found by the total mean conflict score, 2.06. Inter Sender Role conflict revealed the most high mean conflict score and the lowest one was inter person role conflict. Among the five role senders of nurses: Physician, patient and hi9 family, peer and superior, nursing students and hospital administrator, nurses showed the highest conflict mean score for physicians and the lowest score for Nursing student. 3. Analysis of role conflict resolution. Compromise through discussion with the role sender was the most frequently selected method by the respondents. The result also showed that the respondents tend to resolve the conflicting situation created by patient or his family by persuation. On the o thor hand, Avoidance and ignorance was frequently chosen for the conflicting role expectations from the hospital administrator.
The objectives of this study were to explore theoretically the factors that were associated with role conflict of rural extension educators, to investigate the consequences of this conflict, and to suggest possible solutions to the role conflict. This study was carried out through literature review. The findings from this study were as follows : 1) The causes of role conflict were divided into individual characteristics and social or organizational characteristics. Existing research papers examining the cause of rural extension educators' role conflict had focused mainly on individual characteristics. Therefore, social characteristics of the role conflict should be included in future research activities. 2) The consequences of role conflict were made up of individual dimensions and organizational dimensions. However, pervious researches on rural extension educators' role conflict had dealt with the individual dimensions only. Therefore, the consequences of organizational dimensions should be added to future researches. 3) Revision of roles and job specifications, developing professional competencies, and raising achievement motivation were some of the possible solutions to rural extension educators' role conflict. These solutions, if managed effectively, may improve the performance of extension organizations, as well as that of the individuals by solving the role conflict of rural extension educators.

Man's role type is composed of man's sex role attitude and family-role performance and categorized in four types such as traditionalism type neo-traditionalism type equalitarianism type and inconsistancy type. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role conflict of head nurse; to identify the degree of the role conflict, the sources of the conflict, and the relation between the degree of the conflict and the general characteristics of head nurse. During the period from July 23, 1984 to August 4, 1984, data were collected from 109 head nurses working in 7 general hospitals in seoul. The results of this study were: 1. The degree of the role conflict of head nurse was moderate. But among the three areas in performing head nurse's role, the degree of role conflict as a operational manager was slightly serious. 2. In the various sources of the role conflict of head nurse, the main sources were the shoratage of personnel (20.7%), lack of equipment (19.3%), and lack of time. (17.6%). 3. In comparison of the degree of role conflict of head nurse, there is no significant difference in the general characteristics of head nurse. But the role conflict of head nurse as a operational manager, there is a significant difference in hospital types in which the head nurse were working. (p <0.01). And as a operational manager, there is a significant difference of role conflict in educational levels. (p <0.01).
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between professional self-concept, role conflict and job satisfaction of emergency department (ER) nurse. Method: Data were collected from a convenience sample of 200 ER nurses who worked in one of 9 hospitals in 5cities. The instrument for this study was a structured questionnaire on professional self-concept, role conflict and job satisfaction. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: The mean score for professional self-concept was 2.52 (0.28), for role conflict, 3.37 (0.55), and for job satisfaction, 2.71 (0.35). There were significant differences on three variables according to total career, and satisfaction with nursing. There was a significant positive correlation between professional self-concept and role conflict, job satisfaction. Role conflict showed a significant negative correlation with job satisfaction. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the important role-related variables of professional self-concept, role conflict and job satisfaction of ER nurses are significantly related, and that as, role conflict is an important factor for job satisfaction of ER nurses, strategies to decrease role conflict need to be developed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among Calling, Role conflict, and Turnover intention of Republic of Korea Air force pilot. Specifically, we examined the mediating effect of Role conflict on the relationship between Calling and Turnover intention. Survey data from 211 Pilots in R.O.K. Air force bases were analyzed with Structural equation model, using AMOS 21.0. Results are as follows. First, Calling had negative relationships with Role conflict and Turnover intention. Second, Role conflict had a positive relationship with Turnover intention. Third, Role conflict partially mediated on the relationship between Calling and Turnover intention. These findings suggest that Calling may play a critical role in Turnover intention and Role conflict of R.O.K. Air force pilot. Finally, we discussed the implications of these results, limitations, and research suggestions for the future research.
This study investigated the relationships among collectivism, role conflict, and the organizational commitment of teachers in kindergartens and childcare centers. The subjects were 190 teachers who worked in a kindergarten or a childcare center in Daegu and in Gyoungbuk Province. Questionnaires were used to investigate collectivism, role conflict, and organizational commitment by self-reports from teachers. The collected data were analyzed by factor analysis, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS Win 15.0. The results were as follows. (1) Collectivism was positively associated with the organizational commitment of the teachers. (2) Role conflict was negatively associated with the organizational commitment of the teachers. Among the different types of role conflict, teaching profession conflict, co-worker conflict, and administration conflict were negatively associated with organizational commitment. (3) Role conflict was a better predictor of organizational commitment than collectivism. Additionally, administration conflict as a type of role conflict was a better predictor of organizational commitment than collectivism.
Purpose: The Purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between self-disclosure and role conflict in nursing students. Method: The subjects were 386 nursing students who were in college and university. The data were collected from July 26 to September 18, 2004 by the structured questionnaires. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and ANOVA & t-test with SAS package were used. Results: 1. The mean of self-disclosure perceived by nursing students was 3.57(${\pm}$.53), and the mean of role conflict perceived by nursing students was 3.62(${\pm}$.49). If the role conflict was divided into subcategory, deficiency of ability and skill was 3.77(${\pm}$.60), role ambiguity was 3.66(${\pm}$.54), and internal conflict was 3.49(${\pm}$.62). 2. 'Role conflict', 'deficiency of ability and skill', 'role ambiguity' and 'internal conflict' were positively related to 'self-disclosure'. 3. 'Self-disclosure' showed a significant difference according to interpersonal relations, meaning on nursing job and 'role conflict' showed a significant difference according to school career, present grade. Conclusion: this study suggested that there are need to implement self-disclosure training program for nursing student to decrease role conflict.
Objectives: This study was conducted to confirm the relationship between role conflict, positive psychological capital, and the psychological well-being of dental hygienists and to provide data for improving professionalism by increasing the psychological well-being of dental hygienists. Methods: From May 21 to June 22, 2023, 190 data were collected through an online community of dental hygienists. The collected data were analyzed IBM SPSS program ver. 23.0 and AMOS ver. 26.0. Statistical analysis methods, convergent validity test, structural equation model analysis, and model fit were performed using independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, confirmatory factor analysis, structural model fit test, and path analysis. Results: The lower the role conflict of dental hygienists and the higher the positive psychological capital, the higher the psychological well-being. The lower the role conflict, the higher the positive psychological capital. However, there was no mediating effect between positive psychological capital and role conflict, as it was not statistically significant. Analysis of the total effect of role conflict and positive psychological capital on psychological well-being revealed that positive psychological capital had a greater influence on psychological well-being than role conflict. Conclusions: Psychological well-being was related to positive psychological capital and role conflict. Future efforts are needed to improve positive psychological capital and psychological well-being of dental hygienists and reduce role conflict.
The purpose of the study was to preset the relationships between role conflict and psychological/physical distress of dual/earner families in Pusan. the questionnaire was composed of socio-economic status, wives' work time, spouse's emotional support scale, husbands' housework participation, role conflict scale, psychologica/physical distress scale. The major findings were as follows : 1. The level of role conflict and psychological/physical distress were higher among wives than among husbands. 2. Role conflict were the most important factor affecting the level of psychological/physical distress directly. 3. Wives' psychological/physical distress were significantly affected by role conflict and socio-economic status directly. Wives' psychological/physical distress were affected by wives' work time, husbands' emotional support, husbands' housework participation indirectly. 4. Husbands' psychological distress was significantly affected by role conflict and husbands' housework participation directly. Husbands' physical distress was significantly affected by role conflict directly. Husbands' psychological/physical distress were affected by wives' work time, wives' emotional support indirectly.
