  • In design education enhancement of design methodology and creativity can be stimulated through taking on several creative roles within an interactive and enjoyable studio course. To overcome blocks to creativity I developed a intermediate course, 'Furniture Design Studio I' at the sophomore advanced level course. Inventive thinking and a sense of aesthetic are the essential element for all studnets to grow as a professional designer. And to develop their creative thinking skill I introduced a system that utilizes each element into a role-playing type of projects. Students will be able to demonstrate their underlying creativity in a more open environment. Instead of stressing to solve a lot of complicate issues, the main focus is to allow freedom of expression and creativity. Role-playing are executed in a design studio environment rather than in a psychodrama situation. There are two different type of role-playing : Inventor and Designist (Designer + Artist). Students will be able to work in groups, incorporate problem solving into their projects and concentrate on more personal creative form developments. Through this process, students will enhance their problem solving abilities and broaden their scope for innovation. Thus increases the student's participation and creativity. Investigating the problems of domestic design education through these sort of special programs and developing systems that enhance creativity based on the results and the process methods.

  • Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) are played by millions of people around the world. Within MMORPGs, players explore, solve mysteries, craft items, battle against dungeon or raid bosses, or compete against other players, all while using a variety of information and information behaviors. Role-players in MMORPGs develop identities and engage in interactive storytelling with other role-players as their characters. An ethnographic approach combining overt participant observation and engagement, semi-structured interviews, and artifact collection was used to explore and describe the social information behaviors of role-players through the lens of the theory of information worlds. The social types evident in the role-playing community in WildStar, a science fantasy-themed MMORPG, are closely interrelated to and differentiated by social norms and information values that dictate acceptable characters, stories, character actions, and appropriate lore sources as well as how to role-play without violating the boundary between in- and out-of-character information worlds. Role-players maintained the in-character and out-of-character boundary using a set of specific information behaviors to enable engaging and immersive role-playing experiences. Implications of the findings for the theory of information worlds as well as potential applications of role-playing and MMORPGs are also discussed.

  • This paper provokes considerations on companionship. As human-robot relation becomes important, the role and communication styles of robot become crucial. In order to see how we should design communication styles of social robots, we generated scenarios based on pre-studies. Then, we conducted a $2{\times}2$ experiment to compare four different conditions by expected role and communication style. We divided expected roles into playing and serving role by dominance level. Also, we matched communication style on one condition and mismatched on the other. The results imply matching role with communication style is crucial in some role, however not in every role. As HCI expands to human-computer relation, our study would inspire future research on companionship between human and robots.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the identities and roles so that they can grasp their social roles and directions. Artists show a change in identity from the deification of modern artists with freedom and genius to artists who challenge the cognitive aspect of art and redefine the scope and concept of artists by expanding their social role. Artists dreaming of an ideal art utopia, in which art, society, politics, and daily life are coordinated, are constantly presenting the social role and direction of art through the combination and challenge of new ways of art and craft, beauty and function, creative imagination, and public service. Fashion designers act as contemporary genius artists, creators who express the appearance of the times, practitioners who advocate social values and changes, members of business in the fashion system, celebrities who are spotlighted by the public at the center of the fashion industry, or fashion influencers. Thus, fashion designers are complex or selective in their role depending on the fashion philosophy of individual designers or location given within the fashion system. They are becoming the subject of creating the culture of the times by expressing social ideology or playing a role in practicing art in life that leads social culture so as to raise the value of fashion in their development and satisfy cultural enjoyment of fashion consumers who consume art in everyday life.

  • An approach for game bot detection in massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) based on the analysis of game playing behavior is proposed. Since MMORPGs are large-scale games, users can play in various ways. This variety in playing behavior makes it hard to detect game bots based on play behaviors. To cope with this problem, the proposed approach observes game playing behaviors of users and groups them by their behavioral similarities. Then, it develops a local bot detection model for each player group. Since the locally optimized models can more accurately detect game bots within each player group, the combination of those models brings about overall improvement. Behavioral features are selected and developed to accurately detect game bots with the low resolution data, considering common aspects of MMORPG playing. Through the experiment with the real data from a game currently in service, it is shown that the proposed local model approach yields more accurate results.

  • This paper aims to explore the factors of learner's flow and to develop and validate a scale to measure the flow in Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game(MMORPG) for education. First of all, potential factors were drawn through literature review. The potential stage comprises 6 factors(learner's psychological characteristics, learner's skill, importance of game, environment for learner, instructional design, and instructional environment) and 16 subfactors. With total 48 items developed. a survey was carried out among 293 elementary learners who had been participating in a commercial MMORPG for English skills to measure their flow in the MMORPG by utilizing the potential scale. Using the responses collected from 288 respondents, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis were performed. The expository factor analysis showed that items within each sub-factors could be bound into one factor. That is, the variables evaluating learner's flow were divided into six factors(learner's psychological characteristics, learner's skill, importance of game, environment for learner, instructional design, and instructional environment). And these factors were interpreted consisting of 16 sub-ones. Reliability estimates indicated that the evaluation tool had good internal consistency. The confirmatory factor analysis did confirm the model suggested by the expository factor analysis. Over fit measures(CFI, NFI, NNFI) showed the good suitability of the model. Findings of this study confirmed the validity and reliability of the scale to measure learner's flow in MMORPG.

  • The role of innovation in economic growth and development is extensively recognized today. Innovations allow firms to stay ahead in a competitive environment while also playing a leading role in developing a nation or a region. The capacity to solve critical problems depends on the generation of innovations. Innovations are more important for a developing nation as only through them, they can find appropriate solutions to the issues unique to their context. A robust roadmap that fosters and nurtures innovations in a country has thus become an essential aspect of public policy. In this context, the book The Black Box: Innovation and Public Policy in India by Prof. Rakesh Basant provides an overview of the innovation landscape in India and the challenges it faces in building a robust entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem in the country. The author provides an extensive analysis of different actors within India's innovation system and recommends policy initiatives to boost and foster innovation.

  • This study looked into how to carry out sacrifices for intra-game cooperation in becoming a high-level player. The results are as follows. First, the way players behave is dependent on their resources(scores). Second, the higher the player's score, the more praise cards were given to dealers. Third, high-scoring players have taken on a role of "sacrificing the self to serve the many" by voluntarily playing the role of healer, leading the team to set the rules and consequently reducing the risk of a probable role conflict within the team.

  • Water storage cells (WSCs) in the leaf succulent Orostachys malacophyllus have been studied to understand their adaptive nature to its coastal habitat employing the electron microscopy. Attention has been paid to the features of vacuoles and plasmodesmata in this study, since leaf tissues in O. malacaphyllus are under continous physiological drought due to its occurrence in the shore-line environment. The WSCs occupied almost all of the leaf volume and appeared empty at low magnifications. Among the WSCs, small rudimentary vascular bundles were scattered throughout the internal volume. However, in high magnification the WSCs were vacuolate in most cases and vacuolization into a well-developed huge central vacuole was very common phenomenon. Such vacuolization has been detected within the vacuoles as well as within the cytoplasms. Well-developed plasmodesmata were often found in cells appeared to be mucilagenous. Moreover, plasmodesmata being involved in the secretion of materials or structures were even encountered. Thus, vacuolization from various sizes of vacuoles in the WSCs to have a huge central vacuole seems playing an important role in adapting the plant itself to its coastal habitat.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the metatheatricality of Harris' plays marked by the device of 'play-within-a-play' - Androcles and the Lion, Arkansaw Bear, and Punch and Judy. In his metatheatrical plays Harris shows that characters perform for themselves and others. The framework that inner performance is going on within the outer frame play is formed on the stage, and this device reminds the audience in the seats that they are representing reality but that they are only in the middle of performing on the stage. Based on this point of view, this study explores fictionality of character, and play. In Androcles and the Lion, the most-performed children's play in America, the metatheatrical elements are shown in the style of commedia dell'arte, which attacks the rigidity of characters' identity in the Roman society. Another well-known children's play, Arkansaw Bear consists of realistic frame play and fantastic inner play in the mind of a girl, both of which function as a mirror each other and help to sustain aesthetic distance to death and reality on the stage. In Punch and Judy, the structure of frame play and inner puppet play reminds that what's going on in the play is just a fictional play and reflects history of children's puppet show. Harris' unique metatheatricality, the heightened awareness of his own artistic medium, offers children educational opportunity to learn about how a play is performed on the stage and contributes to convey mature theme through children's imaginary participation in the process of playmaking on the stage.
