주기하중을 받는 비보강 조적벽체의 강체회전거동 (Rocking Behavior of Unreinforced Masonry Walls Under Cyclic Load)

  • This study investigated the rocking behavior of unreinforced masonry walls and wall piers under cyclic loading. Based on the benchmark tests, the characteristics of load-deformation relations in masonry walls with rocking failure were captured, focusing on observed deformation modes. The rocking strengths of masonry walls (i.e., peak and residual strengths) were evaluated, and the effects of opening configurations on the masonry wall strength were examined. The deformation capacity of the rocking behavior and the hysteresis shape of the load-deformation relations were also identified. Based on the results, modeling approaches for the rocking behavior of masonry walls were discussed.

Dynamic response of post-tensioned rocking wall-moment frames under near-fault ground excitation

  • The dynamic responses of a rocking wall-moment frame (RWMF) with a post-tensioned cable are investigated. The nonlinear equations of motions are developed, which can be categorized as a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) model. The model is validated through comparison of the rocking response of the rigid rocking wall (RRW) and displacement of the moment frame (MF) against that obtained from Finite Element analysis when subjected ground motion excitation. A comprehensive parametric analysis is carried out to determine the seismic performance factors of the RWMF systems under near-fault trigonometric pulse excitation. The horizontal displacement of the RWMF system is compared with that of MF structures without RRW, revealing the damping effect of the RRW. Frame displacement spectra excited by trigonometric pulses and recorded earthquake ground motions are constructed. The effects of pulse type, mass ratio, frame stiffness, and wall slenderness variations on the displacement spectra are presented. The paper shows that the coupling with a RRW has mixed results on suppressing the maximum displacement response of the frame.

Rocking response of self-centring wall with viscous dampers under pulse-type excitations

  • A self-centering wall (SCW) is a lateral resistant rocking system that incorporates posttensioned (PT) tendons to provide a self-centering capacity along with dampers to dissipate energy. This paper investigates the rocking responses of a SCW with base viscous dampers under a sinusoidal-type pulse considering yielding and fracture behaviour of the PT tendon. The differences in the overturning acceleration caused by different initial forces in the PT tendon are computed by the theoretical method. The exact analytical solution to the linear approximate equation of motion is also provided for slender SCWs. Finally, the effects of the ductile behaviour of PT tendons on the rocking response of a SCW are analysed. The results demonstrate that SCWs exhibit two overturning modes under pulse excitation. The overturning region with Mode 1 in the PT force cases separates the safe region of the wall into two parts: region S1 with an elastic tendon and region S2 with a fractured tendon. The minimum overturning acceleration of a SCW with an elastic-brittle tendon becomes insensitive to excitation frequency as the PT force increases. After the plastic behaviour of the PT tendon is considered, the minimum overturning acceleration of a SCW is increased significantly in the whole range of the studied wg/p.

꺽쇠형 강재 댐퍼의 록킹 거동 (Rocking Behavior of Clamped Shape Metallic Damper)

  • This study proposes a technique to dissipate the energy of a rocking wall installed on a frame by using a metallic damper. The rocking behavior is to turn left and right about the wall vertical axis. The development system is a method of dissipating energy by installing a damper which is the like on a large displacement portion. Experimental results showed that in case of shorter strut make strength capacity increasement and in case of longer strut make deformation capacity increasement. The higher the strut height, the better the energy dissipation capacity. The proposed equation for estimating the steel damper strength applied to this study is a straight type strut damper. However, it is not suitable for calculation of the strength of clamped type strut damper where both flexural behavior and shear behavior are mixed.

내진보강된 치장조적벽의 파괴특성과 전단강도 (Shear Strength and Failure Mode of Architectural Masonry Walls)

  • 본 연구는 조적조로 구성된 치장벽체의 전단거동에 관한 연구이다. 치장조적벽체의 내진보강상 세를 소개하였으며, 본 연구에서 개발한 내진상세를 적용하여 전단거동을 평가하였다. 실험체는 비보 강조적벽(URM) 1개 보강조적벽(RM) 3개로 구성하였으며, 준정적 실험을 수행하였다. 비보강 조적벽은 형상비와 축방향 압축력에 따라 다양한 거동 및 파괴가 일어난다. 그러나 본 연구는 조적구조와는 다른 치장조적조를 대상으로 하였으므로, 전단강도의 주요변수로 작용하는 축방향 압축력은 변수에서 제외 되었다. 실험변수로는 벽체의 보강유무와 형상비로 정하였다. 실험결과 실험체의 거동은 강체회전(Rocking)모드가 지배적으로 나타났으나, 최종파괴는 여러 파괴모드가 복합적으로 나타났다. FEMA273 에서는 면내조적벽의 전단강도식을 제시한다. 강도식은 조적벽의 거동모드에 따라 4가지로 분류되며, 그 거동모드는 강체회전(Rocking), 단부압괴(Toe-Crushing), 수평줄눈미끄러짐(Bed-Joint-Sliding), 사인장(Diagonal-Tension)파괴로 나타내고 있다. FEMA 273에 의해 전단강도를 평가한 결과 치장조적벽의 거동모드는 어느정도 예측 할 수 있었지만, 전단강도는 매우 다르게 나타났다.

The vertical spanning strip wall as a coupled rocking rigid body assembly

  • The equation of motion of a one way (vertical) spanning strip wall, as an assembly of two rigid bodies, is presented. Only one degree of freedom is needed to completely describe the wall response as the bodies are assumed to be perfectly rectangular and are allowed to rock but not to slide horizontally. Furthermore, no arching action occurs since vertical motion of the upper body is not restrained. Consequently, the equation of motion is nonlinear, with non constant coefficients and a Coriolis acceleration term. Phenomena associated with overburden to self weight ratio, motion triggering, impulsive energy dissipation, amplitude dependency of damping and period of vibration, and scale effect are discussed, contributing to a more complete understanding of experimental observations and to an estimation of system parameters based on the wall characteristics, such as intermediate hinge height and energy damping, necessary to perform nonlinear time history analyses. A comparison to a simple standing, or parapet, wall is developed in order to better highlight the characteristics of this assembly.

  • 본 연구에서는 벽체의 록킹 거동을 고려한 내진보강 기법을 개발하였다. 록킹 거동은 벽체 수직 축을 중심으로 좌우로 회전하는 것으로, 개발 시스템은 변위 큰 부분에 댐퍼 등을 설치하여 에너지를 소산 시키는 방법이다. 댐퍼는 강재댐퍼를 사용하였으며, 스트럿 형상 및 높이를 변수로 선정하였다. 실험결과 스트럿 높이가 짧을수록 강도 능력이, 길수록 변형능력이 우수한 것으로 평가되었다. I형과 S형 스트럿 능력을 평가한 결과, S형이 우수한 내진 성능을 보유한 것으로 평가되었다.

강봉 댐퍼와 록킹 거동 (Steel Rod Damper and Rocking Behavior)

  • 본 연구에서는 벽체의 록킹 거동을 고려한 내진보강 기법을 개발하였다. 록킹 거동은 벽체 수직 축을 중심으로 좌우로 회전하는 것으로, 개발 시스템은 변위 큰 부분에 댐퍼 등을 설치하여 에너지를 소산 시키는 방법이다. 댐퍼는 강봉 댐퍼를 사용하였으며, 강봉 지름 및 길이(형상비)를 변수로 선정하였다. 실험결과 댐퍼길이 260mm 경우 우수한 내진 성능을 보유한 것으로 평가되었다.

Optoelectrical Properties of HgCdTe Epilayers Grown by Hot Wall Epitaxy

  • $Hg_{1-x}Cd_{x}Te$ (MCT) was grown by hot wall epitaxy. Prior to the MCT growth, the CdTe (111) buffer layer was grown on the GaAs substrate at the temperature of $590^{\circ}C$ for 15 min. When the thickness of the CdTe buffer layer was $5{\mu}m$ or thicker, the full width at half maximum values obtained from the x-ray rocking curves were found to significantly decrease. After a good quality CdTe buffer layer was grown, the MCT epilayers were grown on the CdTe (111)/GaAs substrate at various temperatures in situ. The crystal quality for those epilayers was investigated by means of the x-ray rocking curves and the photocurrent experiment. The photoconductor characterization for the epilayers was also measured. The energy band gap of MCT was determined from the photocurrent measurement and the x composition rates from the temperature dependence of the energy band gap were turned out.
