  • The leakage quantity through concrete facing of Concrete Face Rockfill Dam(CFRD) is very small due to its low permeability of intact concrete. Even though the concrete facing is well designed and constructed, fine cracks can be generated due to effects of thermal and drying shrinkage. Therefore, it can be said that the leakage from the CFRD is subjected to not permeability of intact concrete but poor joints, cracks and foundation rocks. The Safety of a dam on leakage was evaluated based on the comparison between apparent permeability estimated and leakage quantity measured. The above method can be concluded to give a good direction for the evaluation of safety on CFRD in maintenance aspects as design and construction technology is improved with the accumulation of leakage data.

인공신경망기법을 이용한 중심차수벽형 석괴댐의 정부침하량 예측 (Prediction of Crest Settlement of Center Cored Rockfill Dam using an Artificial Neural Network Model)

  • In this study, the settlement data of 32 center cored rockfill dams (total 39 monitored data) were collected and analyzed to develop the method to predict the crest settlement of a CCRD after impounding by using the internal settlement data occurred during construction. An artificial neural network (ANN) modeling was used in developing the method, which was considered to be a more reliable approach since in the ANN model dam height, core width, and core type were all considered as input variables in deriving the crest settlement, whereas in conventional methods, such as Clements's method, only dam height is used as a variable. The ANN analysis results showed a good agreement with the measured data, compared to those by the conventional methods using regression analysis. In addition, a simple procedure to use the ANN model for engineers in practice was provided by proposing the equations used for given input values.

  • Earth and rock fill dam is our typical dam because of their inherent flexibility and adaptability to various fundation conditions. In order to secure structural safety, rockfill materials are used angular particles obtained by blasting parent rock or rounded particles collected from river beds. Concrete-faces rockfill dams(CFRD) and Concrete-faces gravelfill dams(CFGD) have become popular in the last 20 years as s result of their good performance and low cost compared with the rockfill dam. These Dams are also constructed by the materials. A key factor in the design of the dams is the deformations induced during construction and upon reservoir filling. These can be predicted using the stress-strain and strength properties can be adequately define. However the stress-strain properties of rockfill are difficult to determine because the properties are affected by such factors as particle grading, size and shape of particles, stress conditions, and particle crushing. In our study, testing of the behavior of the rockfill materials are essential prerequisites to the realistic analysis and design of the CFGD. This paper deals with laboratory testing of particle crushing among the study.

지진하중을 받는 CFRD 정상부 변위에 영향을 미치는 사력재료 입력물성에 대한 민감도분석 (Sensitivity Analysis of Rockfill Input Parameters Influencing Crest Displacement of CFRD Subjected to Earthquake Loading)

  • 본 연구는 지진하중을 받는 콘크리트 표면차수벽형 석괴댐(CFRD)의 정상부 변위에 대한 사력재료 주요물성의 민감도를 정량적으로 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 현재 운영 중인 국내 CFRD 형식의 D댐에 대해 2가지 지진파, 각 지진파에 대해 2가지 설계진도, 사력재료에 대해 수행된 대형삼축압축시험 결과로부터 얻어진 물성값을 조합하여 만든 물성값이 다른 해석단면 27개를 작성, 총 108개 해석단면에 대한 동적 수치해석을 수행, 그 결과를 이용한 대역적 민감도분석을 수행하였다. 민감도분석 결과, 지진하중 작용 시 댐 정상부 침하량은 입력지진의 종류와 설계진도 크기에 상관없이 절대적으로 사력재료 전단탄성계수에만 영향을 받았으며 댐 정상부 횡변위의 경우에는, 사력재료 전단탄성계수의 영향이 크나 그 영향의 정도는 침하량에 미치는 정도에 비해 상대적으로 작으며, 침하량과는 달리 지진파의 종류와 크기에 따라 차이를 보였다. 본 연구결과에 한해 사력재료의 마찰각은 지진하중에 의한 CFRD 정상부 변위에는 전혀 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

  • In this study the results of investigation on the physical and mechanical properties of a rockfill dam body were provided. On the crest of the old Namgang dam to be excavated partially, various in-situ tests(boring with SPT, sampling of undisturbed sample, field density test, field permeability test) and geophysical investigation works were performed Rock materials, i.e., shale and sandstone, were collected, and their slake durability was evaluated using slaking durability testing method which is suggested by ISRM.

  • CFRD (Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam) has been world-widely constructed due to a lot of advantages compared with rockfill dam and recently, sand/gravel materials, instead of crushed rock materials, are also utilized as a main rockfill material to overcome geological and environmental problems. In this paper, the process of water infiltration into the originally unsaturated sand/gravel-fill dam is studied using two-dimensional saturated-unsaturated seepage theory. According to the results of seepage analysis, if the effective drainage zone is installed in the dam, the reservoir water infiltrate into the dam along a downward flow path towards the lower drainage area. The main body constructed with sand/gravel materials, therefore, remains unsaturated.

Assessment of the crest cracks of the Pubugou rockfill dam based on parameters back analysis

  • The crest of the Pubugou central core rockfill dam (CCRD) cracked in the first and second impounding periods. To evaluate the safety of the Pubugou CCRD, an inversion analysis of the constitutive model parameters for rockfill materials is performed based on the in situ deformation monitoring data. The aim of this work is to truly reflect the deformation state of the Pubugou CCRD and determine the causes of the dam crest cracks. A novel real-coded genetic algorithm based upon the differences in gene fragments (DGFX) is proposed. It is used in combination with the radial based function neural network (RBFNN) to perform the parameters back analysis. The simulated settlements show good agreements with the monitoring data, illustrating that the back analysis is reasonable and accurate. Furthermore, the deformation gradient of the dam crest has been analysed. The dam crest has a great possibility of cracking due to the uncoordinated deformation, which agrees well with the field investigation. The deformation gradient decreases to the value lower than the critical one and reaches a stable state after the second full reservoir.

사력댐의 정상상태 침투량 예측식 (An Equation to Estimate Steady-State Seepage Rate of Rockfill Dam)

  • 본 연구에서는 한국수자원공사가 건설 및 관리하고 있는 8개 대규모 사력댐을 대상으로 불포화 침투류해석을 실시하고 저수위의 변화, 차수죤의 형상변화와 포화 및 불포화 수리특성의 변화에 대한 사력댐 제체의 침투량을 분석하여, 불포화 영역을 통한 침투량을 고려할 수 있고 높이 50m 이상의 국내 대규모 사력댐에 적용 가능한 사력댐 제체의 침투량 예측식을 제안하였다. 제안된 예측식에 의한 침투량은 불포화 흐름을 고려하지 않는 기존 이론식 (Sakamoto, 1998)에 비하여 전반적으로 큰 값을 나타내었고, 그 차이는 저수위가 낮아지면서 증가하고, 저수위가 높아지면서 감소하였다. 기존 사력댐에서 측정된 실측 침투량을 제안된 예측식에 의한 예측치와 비교한 결과 잘 일치하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 제안된 예측식은 차수죤의 상 하류 사면경사가 1V:(0.2 ~0.3)H의 범위인 사력댐에 대한 불포화 침투류해석 결과에 기초하며, 불포화 흐름을 고려하므로 기존 예측식(Sakamoto, 1998, Chapuis와 Aubertin, 2001)에 비해 실제 현상에 가까운 예측결과를 얻을 수 있다.

Laboratory experiments on the improvement of rockfill materials with composite grout

  • Dam deformation should be strictly controlled for the construction of 300 m-high rockfill dams, so the rockfill materials need to have low porosity. A method of using composite grout is proposed to reduce the porosity of rockfill materials for the construction of high rockfill dams. The composite grout is a mixture of fly ash, cement and sand with the properties of easy flow and post-hardening. During the process of rolling compaction, the grout admixture sprinkled on the rockfill surface will gradually infiltrate into the inter-granular voids of rockfill by the exciting force of vibratory roller to reduce the porosity of rockfill. A visible flowing test was firstly designed to explore the flow characteristics of composite grout in porous media. Then, the compressibility, shear strength, permeability and suffusion susceptibility properties of composite grout-modified rockfill are studied by a series of laboratory tests. Experimental results show that the flow characteristics of composite grout are closely related to the fly ash content, the water-to-binder ratio, the maximum sand size and the content of composite grout. The filling of composite grout can effectively reduce the porosity of rockfill materials, as well as increase the compression modulus of rockfill materials, especially for loose and gap-graded rockfill materials. Composite grout-modified rockfill tends to have greater shear strength, larger suffusion erosion resistance, and smaller permeability coefficient. The composite grout mainly plays the roles of filling, lubrication and cementation in rockfill materials.

민감도분석을 통한 지진하중을 받는 CFRD 정상부 침하량 예측 (Estimation of Settlement on the Crest of CFRD Subjected to Earthquake Loading Using Sensitivity Analysis)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 수치해석을 이용한 정량적 민감도분석으로부터 지진하중을 받는 CFRD 정상부 침하량 변화의 주 영향인자를 찾고, 주 영향인자 변화에 따른 침하량의 변화양상을 고찰하고, 이로부터 지진하중을 받는 CFRD 정상부 침하량을 근사적으로 추정하는 방법을 제안하는 데 있다. 대형삼축압축시험으로부터 얻어진 사력재료 물성을 통계 분석하여 사력재료 물성 통계특성값을 산정하고, 산정된 통계특성값을 이용하여 작성된 27개 해석단면에 대해 해석조건을 달리한(2개 지진파, 각 지진파별 2가지 가속도 크기) 총 108개 CFRD 해석단면에 대한 동적수치해석을 수행, 그 결과를 이용한 정량적 민감도분석을 수행하였다. 민감도분석 결과, 지진하중 작용 시 CFRD 정상부 침하량은 입력 물성 중 전적으로 사력재료의 전단탄성계수에 의존하는 것으로 나타났고 점착력과 마찰각의 영향은 미미하였다. 민감도분석 결과와 전단탄성계수 변화에 따른CFRD 동적해석 결과로부터, 사력재료의 전단탄성계수와 간단한 댐 정보를 이용하여 지진하중 작용시 CFRD 정상부 침하량을 근사적으로 추정하는 방법을 제안하였다.
