  • An iterative robust control design for PZT using Gaussian wavelet networks is proposed. A Gaussian wavelet network with accurate approximation capability is employed to approximate the nonlinear hysteresis dynamics of PZT systems by using an iterative control algorithm. Depending on the finite number of wavelet basis functions which results in unavoidable approximation errors, a robust control law is provided to guarantee the stability of the closed-loop nano positioning system. Finally, the effectiveness of the robust control approach is illustrated through comparative simulations on a PZT.

  • This paper presents the lateral control of an autonomous vehicle by using a look-ahead sensing system. In look-ahead sensing by an absolute positioning system, a reference lane, constructed by straight lanes or circular lanes, was switched by a segment switching algorithm. To cope with sensor noise and modeling uncertainty, a robust LMI-based $H_{\infty}$ lateral controller was designed by the feedback of lateral offset and yaw angle error at the vehicle look-ahead. In order to verify the safety and the performance of lateral control, a scaled-down vehicle was developed and the location of the vehicle was detected by using an ultrasonic local positioning system. In the mechatronic scaled-down vehicle, the lateral model and parameters are verified and estimated by a J-turn test. For the lane change and reference lane tracking, the lateral controllers are used experimentally. The experimental results show that the $H_{\infty}$ controller is robust and has better performance compared with look-down sensing.

  • A design method of DPS control algorithm for adpting rotable thruster is introduced by applying servo system design method and the control algorithm is evaluated on the basis of the results of computer simulations performed for a semi-submersible 2-lower hull 8-column type platform. It is observed from the simulation results that position error due to the irregular drifting forces becomes zero after very short regulating time and dynamic positioning system is robust in spite of random disturbance.

  • The paper presents a design method of dynamic positioning control system for floating platform with rotatable and retractable thruster using $H_{\infty}$control technique. The norm band of uncertaintyis captured by multiplicative perturbation between nominalmodel and reduced order model. A controller robust to theuncertainty is designed applying $H_{\infty}$synthesis. The control law satisfying robust stability and nominal performance condition is determined through the mixed sensitivity approach. The evaluation for the resultant controller obtained by $H_{\infty}$synthesis is done through simulations of the closed loop system. The results of $H_{\infty}$synthesis are compared to those of the traditional LQ synthesis method. method.

  • Urban Air Mobility (UAM) such as a drone taxi is one of the future transportations that have recently been attracting attention. Along with the construction of an urban terminal, an accurate landing system for UAM is also essential. However, in urban environments, reliable Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) signals cannot be received due to obstacles such as high-rise buildings which causes multipath and non-line of sight signal. Thus, the positioning result in urban environments from the GNSS signal is unreliable. Consequently, we propose the Ultra-Wideband (UWB) network to assist the soft landing of UAM on a vertiport. Since the positioning performance of UWB network depends on the layout of UWB anchors, it is necessary to optimize the layout of UWB anchors. In this paper, we propose a two-steps genetic algorithm that consists of binary genetic algorithm involved multi objectives fitness function and integer genetic algorithm involved robust solution searching fitness function in order to optimize taking into account Fresnel hole effects.

  • In this paper, vibration suppression of an elastic beam fixed on a moving cart and carrying a fixed or moving mass is considered. A modified pulse sequence method with RIC(Robust Internal-loop Compensator) is proposed to suppress the single model residual vibration and to get accurate positioning of the beam-mass-cart system. The performance of the proposed input preshaping method is compared with that of the previous ones through simulations and experiments. Using the proposed method, it is able to suppress the initial vibration of the beam-mass-cart system carrying a concentrated mass. Accurate PTP(point-to-point) positioning of the moving mass without residual vibration is also obtained experimentally by modifying the proposed pulse sequence method. Finally, the proposed input preshaping method is applied successfully to the system to follow square trajectories of the moving mass without residual vibration.

  • The objective of this paper is to present a method for designing robust positioning control systems of a flexible arm using $H_2/H_{\infty}$ and $\mu$ theory. We begin with a description of the flexible arm based on the model identification method and discuss the derivation of the model uncertainty. The validity of the obtained model is confirmed experimentally Next, a robust controller is designed based on the $H_2/H_{\infty}$ and $\mu$ theory by which we can improve robustness of the entire system. On this occasion, we also propose a general plant formation suitable to $H_2/H_{\infty}$ control. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed design method is verified through experimentation.

  • This paper is concerned with the positioning control of a flexible arm system using H$_{\infty}$ control theory with optimum sensor location. Firstly, by virtue of the orthogonality of the flexible modes of the flexible arm a reduced order model of the tributed parameter system(DPS) representing the arm has formulated. The dynamical coupling between the flexible arm and DC motor has been considered to formulate an motor composite model. In order to achieve precise positioning with vibration attenuation, sensors have been optimally located. Finally, a robust H$_{\infty}$ controller was designed and the performance of the positioning system has been analyzed.d.

A Hybrid Positioning System for Indoor Navigation on Mobile Phones using Panoramic Images

  • In this paper, we propose a novel positioning system for indoor navigation which helps a user navigate easily to desired destinations in an unfamiliar indoor environment using his mobile phone. The system requires only the user's mobile phone with its basic equipped sensors such as a camera and a compass. The system tracks user's positions and orientations using a vision-based approach that utilizes $360^{\circ}$ panoramic images captured in the environment. To improve the robustness of the vision-based method, we exploit a digital compass that is widely installed on modern mobile phones. This hybrid solution outperforms existing mobile phone positioning methods by reducing the error of position estimation to around 0.7 meters. In addition, to enable the proposed system working independently on mobile phone without the requirement of additional hardware or external infrastructure, we employ a modified version of a fast and robust feature matching scheme using Histogrammed Intensity Patch. The experiments show that the proposed positioning system achieves good performance while running on a mobile phone with a responding time of around 1 second.

Tightly Coupled INS/GPS Navigation System using the Multi-Filter Fusion Technique

  • For robust INS/GPS navigation system, an efficient multi-filter fusion technique is proposed. In the filtering for nonlinear systems, the representative filter - EKF, and the alternative filters - RHKF filter, SPKF, etc. have individual advantages and weak points. The key concept of the multi-filter fusion is the mergence of the strong points of the filters. This paper fuses the IIR type filter - EKF and the FIR type filter - RHKF filter using the adaptive strategy. The result of the fusion has several advantages over the EKF, and the RHKF filter. The advantages include the robustness to the system uncertainty, temporary unknown bias, and so on. The multi-filter fusion technique is applied to the tightly coupled INS/GPS navigation system and the performance is verified by simulation.
