It is important to control the high accurate position and force to prevent unexpected accidents by a robot manipulator. Direct-drive robots are suitable to the position and force control with high accuracy, but it is difficult to design a controller because of the system's nonlinearity and link-interactions. This paper is concerned with the study of the stabilization force control of direct-drive robots. The proposed algorithm is consists of the feedback controllers and the neural networks. After the completion of learning, the outputs of feedback controllers are nearly equal to zero, and the neural networks play an important role in the control system. Therefore, the optimum adjustment of control parameters is unnecessary. In other words, the proposed algorithm does not need any knowledge of the controlled system in advance. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by the experiment on the force control of a parallelogram link-type robot.

This paper present an intelligent microcontroller based chess playing robot which can play a board game against opponent and calculate its moves in a non-idealized environment. In this work, for the sake of simplicity task is accomplished by using Cartesian coordinate system. Chess playing system has been designed in such a way that it provides an interface between user and robot to control chess movements using RS232. Various algorithms are implemented for interfacing hardware in C++ language. Our main goal is to design a cost effective and highly accurate robot system that consumes minimal power to complete its task.
Star characters play a key role in the background of contents that secure global competitiveness. In this study, we study the growth factors and transitional forms of Nintendo Super Mario Bros. and suggest the direction of nurturing Korean star characters. As a result of the analysis of Super Mario Bros., it was possible to derive the growth factors of Originality, repeatability, Continuity, Pertain, and Star Fame and the transition result of step development method. Robot Taekwon V was presented as a reference model while Korean game characters with global competitiveness were excavated. Robot Taekwon V, which combines the features of friendly, unique, symbolism, and narrative, could be used to present a development model of the type of jump development. In the jump development model, character development and Upbringing, diversification of genre, pioneering of new markets combined with new technology, and fostering of characters through linkage with other industries were presented.
The positive effect of percussion instruments can induce increases in self-esteem and decreases in depression in the elderly. Based on this, the content for a percussion instrument robot that the elderly can use to play music is developed. The elements of the interaction between the elderly and the robot through the robot content are extracted. Music that arouses positive memories in the elderly is selected as part of the music therapy robot content in order to relieve depression, and a scoring system for playing music is constructed. In addition, the interaction components of the robot's facial expressions, which stimulate emotions and sensitivity in the elderly, are also designed. These components enable the elderly to take an active part in using the instrument to change the robot's facial expressions, which have three degrees of emotion: neutral-happy, happy, and very happy. The robot is not only a music game machine: it also maximizes the relief of depression in the elderly through interactions with the robot that allow the elderly person to listen to what the robot plays and through the elderly person becoming involved and playing music along with the robot.

In this study, we conduct SW education using robot in elementary school, to examine the effects of SW education using robot and identify differences dependeing on the presence of assistance teacher. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, SW education using robot was conducted to 29 students. After collecting data, we examined mean difference using matched pair t-test and ANCOVA. Our results show that SW education using robot significantly improved CT and attitudes toward robots. CT, however, was not significantly improved in control group. Further, although improvement in attitudes toward robots was not associated with presence of assistance teacher, presence of assistance teacher did play a role in improvement of CT. This study was investigated effects of the SW education using robot and identify differences depending on the presence of assistant teacher, and expanded the understanding of the SW education using robot.
Robotics and automation are rapidly growing in the industries replacing human labor. The idea of robots replacing humans is positively influencing the business thereby increasing its scope of research. This paper discusses the development of an experimental platform controlled by a robotic arm through Robot Operating System (ROS). ROS is an open source platform over an existing operating system providing various types of robots with advanced capabilities from an operating system to low-level control. We aim in this work to control a 7-DOF manipulator arm (Robai Cyton Gamma 300) equipped with an external vision camera system through ROS and demonstrate the task of balancing a ball on a plate-type end effector. In order to perform feedback control of the balancing task, the ball is designed to be tracked using a camera (Sony PlayStation Eye) through a tracking algorithm written in C++ using OpenCV libraries. The joint actuators of the robot are servo motors (Dynamixel) and these motors are directly controlled through a low-level control algorithm. To simplify the control, the system is modeled such that the plate has two-axis linearized motion. The developed system along with the proposed approaches could be used for more complicated tasks requiring more number of joint control as well as for a testbed for students to learn ROS with control theories in robotics.
In order to fully utilize the functions of the hand which is the end effector of the upper limb, other parts of the upper limb have to perform their own roles. Among them, the pronation and supination of the forearm, which allows the hand to rotate along the longitudinal direction of the forearm, play an important role in activities of daily living. In this paper, a soft wearable robot that assists the pronation and supination of the forearm for individuals with weakened or lost upper limb function is proposed. The wearable robot consists of an anchoring part with polymer (wrist strap, elbow strap), a tendon with a belt and wire, and an actuation module. It was developed based on the requirements with respect to friction of anchoring part, forearm compression, and friction of the tendon. It was confirmed that these requirements were satisfied through literature review and experiments. Since all components exist within the forearm when worn, it is expected to be easy to combine with the already developed soft wearable robots for the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder.

Current computer education is moving its focus from using oriented education to improving students' creativity and problem solving ability by computer science education. Robot programming education is becoming a major research issue of computer education in the context of creativity education. One of the mainstream ideas of prior research about robot programming is the effect of robot programming. Another is curriculum development of robot programming. But, the focus of current research is moving toward teaching methods of robot programming. The theme of this research is to use examples in robot programming. Example programs are considered the most useful type of material both by the students and the teachers. Example programs play a important role in learning to program. They work as templates, guidelines, and hints for learners when developing their own programs. In this study, I developed a example-based robot programming support system. Due to the trends of smart learning, I developed this system as a mobile web application.
The purpose of this study is analyzing the preference of young children for the outward appearance of a teacher-aided humanoid robot. The subjects of this study were 180 kindergarten children who were 4 years old. Ninety five children among the subjects were male, and 85 children were female. The instrument used for this study consisted of 15 questions that involved 3 domains; figure, face, and practical use of robot. The major findings of the study were as follows: First, young children preferred a smooth and intimate robot, and one that had a similar size to them. Second, young children preferred a more characteristic face with big eyes. Third, young children preferred a robot which had a contoured body Fourth, young children preferred a robot which had two legs or tank wheels. Fifth, young children preferred a robot that could play with them and be manipulated by them.

This paper provides a guideline for specifying the operational compliance characteristics considering the location of compliance center and the grasp points in assembly tasks using robot hands. Through various assembly tasks, we analyze the conditions of the achievable operational stiffness matrix with respect to the location of compliance center and the grasp points. Also, we show that some of coupling stiffness elements in the operational space cannot be planned arbitrarily. As a result it is concluded that the location of compliance center on the grasped object and the grasp points play important roles for successful assembly tasks and also the operational stiffness matrix should be carefully specified by considering those conditions.
