  • Hydroseeding technique is a very popular method of revegetating slope areas through the control of soil erosion and stability by seeding grasses. This study was conducted to select turfgrass species and cultivars for hydroseeding. Experiment plots were established on various soil types and environmental conditions at Singar-Ansan high-way construction site. The investigation was designed in three cutting, one back-filling and other three spare sites with various seed mixtures. Results indicated that combinations of seed mixtures influenced seed germination and rates of surface cover. In a view of long term, vegetation shifts should be influenced by characters of slopes and micro-climate conditions. Hydroseeding did not show good results on rocky slope areas. Revegetation was only going on where there had soil. The combination of seed mixture with a higher rate of perennial ryegrass had relatively good revegetation with faster germination and seedling growth. Improved turf-type tall fescue Arid ⓡ and Falcon ⓡ seemed to have good environ-mental adaptation and drought tolerance. Wild or old type cultivars showed relatively slow green-up in spring and growth rates at the next year of seeding. For the harmonious landscaping with surrounding area, the combination of native grass mixture with cool-season grasses had good results. Slow and low revegetation rate at hack-filling site seemed to be caused by the poor development of capillary tubes in sub-soil. It was shown that a high correlation between seed germination and revegetation rate, and between three-month later coverage rate and final rate. The evaluation of coverage rate after three month seems to he acceptable to decide the accomplishment of hydroseeding results on rode side slopes.

  • This study was carried out from January 1998 to December 1999 to report the revegetation of cutting-rock slopes and a design standard in the highway cut-slopes. The field data was collected from the 67 sites cutting-rock slopes of highways, local roads, and field test. As the result of analyze, cutting-rock slopes revegetation measures were 16 types. There were Vine planting(3 types), Hydroseeding measures with seed-fertilizer-soil materials(5 types), Vegetaion-base spraying measures(5 types), and Stability measures(3 types). The factors affecting the plant coverage rates of cutting-rock slopes were the slope gradient, the slope width and direction. The plant coverage rate decreases in the condition of steep slope and long slope width and length(height). In addition, the plant coverage rates of the westward and southward were lower than that of the northward and eastward. Most dominant species were Zoysia japonica, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya, Lespedeza cuneata, Rubus crataegifolius, Miscanthus sinensis, Arrundinella hirta, Themeda triandra, and Oenothera odorata. Exotic species were Eragrostis curvula(Weeping lovegrass), Dactylis glomerata Orchardgrass), Lolium perenne(Perennial ryegrass), and Festuca arundinacea(Tall fescue). It is recommended to adjust the proposed factor as environment, topsoil, classification of rock, field condition and characteristic related with revegetation measures on slopes for the presentation of revegetation standard.

  • Development of new approaches to achieve naturally good ecological potential of forest road cut-slope by making the best use of advantages of gabion systems with vegetation base materials to prevent slope failure and erosion, in the area with highly erodible soil. As a result on the type analysis of gabion systems already installed in road cut-slopes, gabion systems were generally established to prevent slope failure. Existing gabion systems can be divided into monolithic and modular system and can be divided into ten subtypes according to the purpose of establishment and combination of other measures. As a result on the monitoring of erosion amount from forest road cut-slopes in the test applications, the order of erosion amount from largest to smallest is as follows : the curved road cut-slope site where normal gabion system was established ($7,911cm^3$); the control site ($7,632cm^3$); the straight road cut-slope site where normal gabion system was established ($7,301cm^3$); the curved road cut-slope site where the new gabion system was established ($5,684cm^3$); and the straight road cut-slope site where the new gabion system ($5,325cm^3$). Therefore, the result shows that the new gabion system is more effective than the normal gabion system to reduce erosion amount from forest ! road cut-slopes. During the study period, vegetation coverages of the straight and curved road cut-slope site where the new gabion system was established were about 45% and about 36%, so average vegetation coverage of the sites where the new gabion systems was established was higher than the sites where the normal gabion systems was established. Therefore, it was concluded that the new gabion system can be more effective for cut-slope revegetation.

  • Slope revegetation refers to the use of vegetation and construction to protect a barren slope devastated by road and building construction. Among many revegetation strategies, hydroseeding has been widely utilized to stabilize barren slopes and has become the representative approach. Previous studies on slope stability have been conducted from a civil engineering perspective, mainly evaluating the stability of cut-slopes on solid bedrock and the use of concrete structures to stabilize devastated slopes. This study was conducted to develop a method to evaluate erosion risk of revegetated cut-slopes, based on criteria derived from previous studies. Twenty-five factors were surveyed on both on-the-spot erosion slopes and non-erosion slopes after slope revegetation to compare slope types. The scores of all non-erosion slopes exceed 80 score while erosion slopes are 80 below. Erosion slopes got the range of 68-74 score while non-erosion slopes got the range of 81-100 score in the first result which was not applied for weighted-values. The scores of all non-erosion slopes exceeded 3.10, while erosion slopes were below 3.10. Erosion slopes were in the range of 2.73-3.09, while non-erosion slopes were in the range of 3.15-3.90 in the second result, which was applied with weighted-values according to the AHP result from a previous study.

  • Currently, there are researches about environment-friendly road construction plans led by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation in progress. Therefore, in order to create the revegetation techniques of thin layer-soil combination media hydroseeding measures by actively using native herbs and native woody plants instead of using imported foreign grasses as a concept of sustainable environment-friendly land development, this thesis is going to identify problems that can appear when applying the thin- layer-soil-media hydroseeding measures by the suggested in the "Slope revegetation design and guidelines" proposed by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation, and to propose improvement plans for the problems. To this aim, a seeding mixture selection test was conducted by the goal of slope restoration, and a test group for artificial slope was created. As for a test for June sowing, it was intended to identify appropriate combination quantity by conducting a test that differentiates the combination quantity, and as for a test for September sowing, an artificial slope test was conducted by creating an artificial bank for earth and soil and applying 1~2cm and 3~4cm thickness after differentiating the seed combination volume and slope aspects.

  • To investigate the procedure of natural plant succession on cutting slope in the forest roads, considered elapsed years and regional distribution, data were collected from natural and artificial treatment slope. And to elucidate the effective methods of revegetation on forest road slope, each seeding experiments carried out with 4 species(Themeda triandra, Lysimachia clethroides, Artemisia princeps and Lespedeza cyrtobotrya). The pioneer species on cutting slope in the forest road were Pinus densiflora, Lespedeza bicolor, Rhubus crataegiflora etc. in wood species, and Arundinella spp., Lysimachia barystachys, Artemisia spp. etc. in herb species. In process of year, plant coverage was increased and average of plant coverage was 30% in road slope which elapsed 5 years after construction. On short slope less than 3m, broadcast seeding method with straw mulch was more effective way than the other methods. Slope revegation work should be adapted with forest road construction work and revegetation work with native species will be effective.

  • To protect the surface of ground-cutting slopes occurring at the national road substitute detour [roundabout road]construction jobsite between Munduk and Wubokgu within the jurisdiction of Pohang-si and environment-friendly road construction, a test execution of re-vegetation measures on the major slopes was done and the results are as follows : As a result of finding out the number of sprouting individuals on the test construction site, the average number of sprouting individuals on the three test spots by the method of revegetation measures D, revegetation measures A, and revegetation measures B was 1,292 number of per square meter, 1,190 number of per square meter, and 1,095 number of per square meter respectively, which statistics were higher than those of test spot by the revegetation measures C. As a result of finding out living plant's breeding index [weight in dried state], the average dried weight of living plant at the test spot by the method of revegetation measures B, in case of foreign herbal species, was the highest marking 8.96 grams per square meter, and the next was 6.86grams per square meter by the method of revegetation measures D, and the next after was 6.80 grams per square meter by the method of revegetation measures A, and the last 5.93 grams per square meter by the method of revegetation measures C. As a result of finding out the covering degree on the slopes, the same average covering degree of 80% and 77.5% in revegetation measures A and revegetation measures D individually, which showed a somewhat higher covering degree than those of revegetation measures B and revegetation measures C. As a result of finding out appearing plants on the test construction site, seeding plant life was found to be sprouting on all test spot while native and foreign herbal species and herbaceous plant as well as shrubs were growing in good harmony with each other. However, in case of revegetation measures B and revegetation measures C method, foreign plant species are dominantly growing. As a result of inspecting rifts on the slopes and the excavated state by water, there existed cracks in some of base materials only in revegetation measures C method applied spot.
