A Development of Driving Simulator using Fuzzy Rules and Neural Network (퍼지규칙 및 신경망을 이용한 운전 시뮬레이터 개발)

  • Considering the domestic traffic environment and the increase of traffic accidents, we have been asked to exactly analyze the main causes of accidents for the accident-experienced drivers to be rehabilitated. In this thesis we present the development process and results of a driving simulator using the IPDE method in the interest of safe driving and driving rehabilitation. Through this Driving simulation development the rehabilitated driver has the possibility of experiencing the real driving situation with the driving aptitude and examines the reasons of accidents. Through the examinations the driver has the chance to correct the deformities of driving by choosing the explanatory scenes, and through this process the driver is able to develop the capability to react in the real situation. However this driving simulation system is one of the best developed, depending on weather and road condition the braking distance may change. Therefore the fuzzy rule and neural network have been used in this thesis to solve previously mentioned problem. The simulation exactly calculated the road and weather conditions to adjust the breaking intensity.

A Study for Influence of Sun Glare Effect on Traffic Safety at Tunnel Hood (직광에 의한 눈부심 현상이 터널 출구부 안전성에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • PURPOSES : In Korea, over 70 percent of the land consists of mountainous and rolling area. Thus, tunnels continue its upward trend as road network are extended. In these circumstances, the importance of tunnel has been increased nowadays and then its safety investigation and research should be performed. This study is focus on confirming and improving the safety of tunnel. On tunnel hood, sunglare effect can irritate driver's behavior instantly and this can result in incident. METHODS : The study of this phenomenon is rarely conducted in domestic and foreign papers, so there is no proper measure for this. This study analyzes the driving environment of the effect of sunglare effect on tunnel hood. RESULTS : Traffic accidents stem from complex set of factors. This study build the Traffic Accident Prediction Models to find out the effect of sunglare effect on tunnel's hood. The independent variables are traffic volume, geometric design of road, length of tunnel and road side environment. Using these variables, this model estimates accident frequency on tunnel hood by Poisson regression model and Negative binomial regression model. Although Poisson regression model have more proper goodness of fit than Negative binomial regression model, Poisson regression model has overdipersion problem. So the Negative binomial regression model is used in this analysis. CONCLUSIONS : Consequently, the model shows that sunglare effect can play a role in driving safety on tunnel hood. As a result, the information of sunglare effect should be noticed ahead of tunnel hood so this can prevent drivers from being in hazard situation.

An Investigation for Driving Behavior on the Exit-ramp Terminal in Urban Underground Roads Using a Driving Simulator (주행 시뮬레이터를 활용한 도심 지하도로 유출연결로 접속부 주행행태 분석)

  • Even though driving behaviors in underground roads can be significantly different from ground roads, existing underground roads follow the design guidelines of ground roads. In this context, this study investigates the driving behaviors of the exit-ramp terminal of urban underground roads using a driving simulator. Virtual driving experiments were performed by analyzing scenarios between the underground and ground road environments. The experiments' driving behavior data for each geometry section are compared and validated through a statistical significance test. This test showed that the speed in the underground road environment is relatively low, and the LPM tends to move away from the adjacent tunnel wall. Based on these findings, this study suggests implications and feasible solutions for improving driver's safety in the exit-ramp terminal of the underground roads.

Evaluation of On-Road NOx Emission from a Light Duty Diesel Vehicle using a Portable Emissions Measurement System (이동식 배출가스 측정장비를 이용한 소형 경유 자동차의 실도로 질소산화물 배출특성 분석)

  • The purpose of this research is to quantify the compliance of on-road emission from a light duty diesel vehicle, based on a comparison to emission regulation standard. $NO_x$, CO and THC emissions were measured using a portable device on a selected real-world driving route with a length of approximately 22 km. On-road measurements were repeated by 10 times on a same route to reflect variability in traffic conditions. A test route was divided into 22 road links with length of 1 km to analyze emission results with higher spatial resolution. The average emissions of $NO_x$, CO and THC over total travel distance, which is approximately 220 km, were quantified to be in compliance with emission regulation standards. Under higher spatial resolution, $NO_x$ concentration exceeded a standard in 92 links out of 220 links. The extended time in stop period and the stop-and-go driving cycle were identified as two important reasons for increased $NO_x$ emissions in observed cases. Heavy traffics showed higher $NO_x$ emissions than free flow. These results indicate that the real-world vehicle emissions might exceed the compliance level associate with traffic conditions. Another interesting observation of this research is that the on-road emission characteristics can be independent to the average speed of road links with higher spatial resolution. Variability in on-road emission might not be fully described by solely relying on an average speed, because variability in traffic conditions and road conditions can influence on real-world vehicle emissions.

  • Each ADS must have a validation and evaluation scenario for ODD. This requires a large number of scenarios, so a scenario library must be developed. In order to effectively utilize the scenario library, a system that supports testing in the ODD of the user's choice is required. In other words, in order to develop a scenario library, it is necessary to build a database on actual driving road conditions (geometry, etc.). Accordingly, in this study, we establish a domestic driving environment database based on HD-Map for driving safety testing, design a system that can search test target sections in connection with the ODD of the scenario, and present the implementation results. In the future, it is expected that the domestic driving environment database will be able to create scenarios through linking with the scenario library and directly utilize them for scenario-based evaluation of various demand sources.

  • Public Signs guiding drivers on the road should help make decisions within a short period of time, so appropriate information should be effectively expressed at the point. Currently, the road marking rules revised by the law show a significant change in the type of information, expression method, and weight of expression compared to existing road signs to be based on road name addresses. This study analyzed whether the revised road signs changed based on the road name were effective in perspective of perception-cognition-understanding-projection and examined whether they provided appropriate information for the actual driving environment. Based on the analyzed information, an experiment was conducted to present an improved design, evaluate the degree of visibility compared to existing road name-oriented signs, and a qualitative investigation was conducted on the suitability of the sign contents. Through this, it is expected that more suitable driving information and measures to increase intuitive visibility can be reviewed.

  • Existing autonomous driving technology has been developed based on sensors attached to the vehicles to detect the environment and formulate driving plans. On the other hand, it has limitations, such as performance degradation in specific situations like adverse weather conditions, backlighting, and obstruction-induced occlusion. To address these issues, cooperative autonomous driving technology, which extends the perception range of autonomous vehicles through the support of road infrastructure, has attracted attention. Nevertheless, the real-time analysis of the 3D centroids of objects, as required by international standards, is challenging using single-lens cameras. This paper proposes an approach to detect objects and estimate the centroid of vehicles using the fixed field of view of road infrastructure and pre-measured geometric information in real-time. The proposed method has been confirmed to effectively estimate the center point of objects using GPS positioning equipment, and it is expected to contribute to the proliferation and adoption of cooperative autonomous driving infrastructure technology, applicable to both vehicles and road infrastructure.

  • The aim of this research was to compare driver's workload among AHS (Automate Highway Systems) road sections in a virtual AHS environment that is based on a re Korean expressway in order to predict and compare the workloads imposed by the change (driver-vehicle interface and vehicle control authority. Road sections included the M (Manual Lane), TL1 (Transition Lane to enter the automated lane), AL (Automated Lane TL2 (Transition Lane to enter the manual lane after the end of automated driving), an post-AHS manual lane.

  • For the purpose of building up the construction prospects of highway in consideration of natural environment. The tree planting and flower seeding in highway road side using native species were offered to natural landscape and resting area landscaping for peoples, and these area were 194place. The tree planting and flower seeding activity is to improve driving circumstances, and to conserve living and natural environment along the highways. And, preparation of ecotone and biotope at the highway surroundings for natural ecosystem conservation is an important activity, and planting of natural plants is generally carried out near wildlife ecoroads in order to give the way for animals. The primary purpose of this tree planting and seeding is not only to reduce environmental pollution, but also to enhance the ecological surroundings of highway circumference. Ultimately, It is essential that the constructive method of highway think over such as ecological environment and road design, surveying and management, construction, highway maintenance etc.

  • Emission from road traffic is one of the major sources of air pollution, and provides some undesirable effects on the atmspheric environment and human health. In the city of Seoul, the higher portion of diesel vehicles runs compared with that of other countries. Emission from the diesel vehicles is much higher than that of other vehicles. In this study, the driving pattern of city-bus in Seoul is investigated through on-road vehicle test and compared with the test modes of other countries in order to examine appropriateness of the present test mode that is taken in our country.
