Effects of substitution of soybean meal with rapeseed meal and glutamine supplementation on growth performance, intestinal morphology, and intestinal mucosa barrier of Qiandongnan Xiaoxiang Chicken

  • Objective: The present study was to evaluate the effects of different rapeseed meal substitution (RSM) and glutamine (Gln) supplementation on growth performance, intestine morphology, and intestinal mucosa barrier of broilers. Methods: Four hundred and twenty Qiandongnan Xiaoxiang Chicken at 1 day of age with similar weight were chosen and were randomly assigned into 7 groups, consisting of 10 replicates per group and 6 broilers per replicate. Three groups were provided with diets separately containing 0%, 10%, and 20% RSM, and the other four groups were fed with diets separately supplemented with 0.5% and 1% Gln based on the inclusion of 10% and 20% RSM. At 21 and 42 days of age, 10 broilers per group were chosen to collect plasma and intestinal samples for further analysis. Results: The results showed that 10% RSM decreased average daily feed intake (ADFI) and average daily weight gain (ADG) of broilers at 21 days of age (p<0.05). Furthermore, both ADFI and ADG of broilers at 21 and 42 days of age were decreased by 20% RSM, while feed conversion ratio (FCR) was increased (p<0.05). Besides, 10% RSM resulted in lower intestinal villus height and the ratio of villus height to crypt depth, deeper crypt depth (p<0.05), combined with the lower mRNA expressions of occludin, claudin-1, and zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) in broilers at 21 days of age (p<0.05). Similar results were also observed in broilers at 21 and 42 days of age fed with 20% RSM. However, 1% Gln improved the growth performance of broilers fed with 10% and 20% RSM (p<0.05), ameliorated intestine morphology and elevated mRNA expressions of occludin, claudin-1 and ZO-1 (p<0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, the increasing inclusion of RSM resulted in more serious effects on broilers, however, 1.0% Gln could reverse the negative effects induced by the inclusion of RSM.

  • There are many natural hot springs and mineral springs as well as the cultural heritage of the three kingdoms period in the Geum River basin including Chungcheong region. No specific regeneration and publicity plans for deteriorated facilities in this area has been presented. This study aims to suggest promising hot spots and complex water culture belt in the Chungcheong region and Geum River basin through the spatial interpretation of resources. The northern part of the Geum River basin is expected to become a therapeutic spring belt with many hot springs and CO2-rich springs. In the central and southern parts of the Geum River basin, it is considered that it will be possible to promote convergence publicity by using groundwater resources and cultural assets.

Oxygen and Hydrogen Isotopic Compositions of Stream Waters in the Han River Basin (한강 수계 분지내 하천수의 산소, 수소 안정동위원소 조성)

  • Oxygen and hydrogen isotopic compositions of stream water in the Han river basin are expressed by the equation of $\delta$D=6.6$\delta$$^{18}$ O-7.4, which is not satisfy the meteoric water line ($\delta$D=8$\delta$$^{18}$ O+10). It might be depended on the local climatic condition and the evaporation effect in the Han river basin. The $\delta$$^{18}$ O and $\delta$D values of stream water in the Han river basin range from -8.2 to -10$\textperthousand$ (avg. -9.1$\textperthousand$) and -60 to -96$\textperthousand$ (avg. -69$\textperthousand$), respectively. The stream water from the South Han river (8$\delta$$^{18}$ O= -8.9~ -10$\textperthousand$, avg.-9.3$\textperthousand$ $\delta$D: -66~ -96$\textperthousand$, avg.-69$\textperthousand$) is slightly more depleted in $^{18}$ O and D than those of North Han river ($\textperthousand$$^{18}$ O= -8.4~ -9.7$\textperthousand$, avg. -9.2$\textperthousand$, $\delta$D= -64~ -95$\textperthousand$, avg. -69$\textperthousand$). It reflects more altitude effect than the effect of latitude and Inflow of the $^{18}$ O eniched S $O_4$$^{2-}$ and HC $O_3$- from the carbonate rock and sulfide minerals in the Taebagsan and Hwanggangri mineralized zone. The Main stream water of the Han river having $\delta$D: -60~ -76$\textperthousand$ (avg.-68$\textperthousand$) and $\textperthousand$$^{18}$ O= -8.2~-10$\textperthousand$ (avg.9.0$\textperthousand$) is enriched in $^{18}$ O compared to the South and North Han river waters, which is caused by the evaporation effect. Binary simple mixing ratio of the Main Han river water between South and North Han river waters was obtained to be 6 : 4 by the isotopic data, suggesting a strong influence of South Han river water to the Main Han river water.

Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Natural Area for Sustainable Watershed Management in the Ara River Basin, Japan (지속가능한 유역관리를 위한 자연지역의 시공간적 특성 분석 -일본 아라가와 유역을 대상으로-)

  • As a frontier of Sustainable Basin Research Initiative, we commenced a scenario-driven planning and evaluation research project which is to identify the strategic policy scenarios. As a part of the project, this study attempts to estimate the ecological impacts of land cover changes using landscape indices at the whole basin level. We analyzed spatio-temporal characteristics of natural area including forest, agricultural land, water area, barren which play an important role in nature-friendly sustainable watershed management. The results of analysis shelved that the size and diversity of natural area have been reduced, while patch number and isolation have been increased in proportion to urbanization in 1974, 1995 and four future scenarios in the Ara River Basin. Also, we estimated that the natural area could be conserved to some degree in the SD or DE scenarios with a concept of environment-friendly development and lifestyle. Various strategic environment policies may be evaluated and designed on the basis of the method, that is, scenario approach and landscape ecological analysis suggested in this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a method of estimating the frequency of flood magnitudes in ungauged station. Six major station are selected for this study in the Geum River system. For each gauging station in the basin, T-year flood is determined by Weibull plotting position. The derivation of the flood frequency formulae is performed on the basis of estimating method of floods with using the hydrological and geomorphical factors developed by U.S. Geological Survey. It is found that the model in this study can be applied to flood flow estimation of ungauged station in the Geum River basin because the mean characteristics of flood flow is used for the basin.

Estimation of Precipitation Recharge in the Pyungchang River Basin Using SCS-CN Method (SCS-CN방법을 이용한 평창강 유역의 강수 함양량 선정)

  • The methodology developed by Soil Conservation Service for determination of runoff value from precipitation is applied to estimate the precipitation recharge in the Pyungchang river basin. Two small areas of the basin are selected for this study. The CN values are determined by considering the type of soil, soil cover and land use with the digital map of 1:25,000. Forest covers more than $94{\%}$ of the study area.. The CN values for the study area vary between 47 in the forest area and 94 in the bare soil under AMC 2 condition. The precipitation recharge rate is calculated for the year when the precipitation data is available since 1990. To obtain the infiltration rate, the index of CN and five day antecedent moisture conditions are applied to each precipitation event during the study period. As a result of estimation, the value of precipitation recharge ratio in the study area vary between $15.2{\%}\;and\;35.7{\%}$ for the total precipitation of the year. The average annual precipitation recharge rate is $26.4{\%}\;and\;26.8{\%}$, meaning 377.9mm/year and 397.5mm/year in each basin.

  • Yi-dong experimental site is operated for research on the rural basin characteristics and accumulation of a long term data by hydrological observation equipments. This basin area is 9,300ha, length 14.4km and slope 0.67%. Hydrological observation network has 3 rainfall meter3, 3 reservoir storage levels and 2 river water levels.

  • The entire South Korea was divided into several main river basins and drilling data through the South Korea were grouped in accordance with the basins. Thickness of each alluvial formation in each basin was averaged to produce the thickness of the whole alluvium. From studying the alluvial stratigraphy of each basin the condition of the alluvial sedimentation was studied and compared between different basins. Thus the characteristics of the alluvial sedimentation in each basin was clarified.

Reservoir Operating System Using Sampling Stochastic Dynamic Programming for the Han River Basin (표본 추계학적 동적계획법을 사용한 한강수계 저수지 운영시스템 개발)

  • Korea water resources corporation (K-Water) has developed the real-time water resources management system for the Nakdong and the Geum River basin to efficiently operate multi-purpose dams in the basins. This study has extended to the Han River basin for providing an effective ending target storage of a month to the real-time water resources management system using Sampling Stochastic Dynamic Programming (SSDP), consequently increasing the efficiency of the reservoir system. The optimization model were developed for three reservoirs, named Soyang, Chungju, and Hwacheon, with high priority in terms of the amounts of effective capacity and water supply for the basin. The number of storage state variable for each dam to set an optimization problem has been assigned from the results of sensitivity analysis. Compared with the K-water operating policy with the target water supply elevations, the optimization model suggested in this study showed that the shortfalls are decreased by 37.22 MCM/year for the required water demands in the basin, even increasing 171 GWh in hydro electronic power generation. In addition, the result of a reservoir operating system during the drawdown period applied to real situation demonstrates that additional releases for water quality or hydro electronic power generation would be possible during the drawdown period between 2007 and 2008. On the basis of these simulation results, the applicability of the SSDP model and the reservoir operating system is proved. Therefore, the more efficient reservoir operation can be achieved if the reservoir operating system is extended further to other Korean basins.

Extracting Flooded Areas in Southeast Asia Using SegNet and U-Net (SegNet과 U-Net을 활용한 동남아시아 지역 홍수탐지)

  • Flood monitoring using satellite data has been constrained by obtaining satellite images for flood peak and accurately extracting flooded areas from satellite data. Deep learning is a promising method for satellite image classification, yet the potential of deep learning-based flooded area extraction using SAR data remained uncertain, which has advantages in obtaining data, comparing to optical satellite data. This research explores the performance of SegNet and U-Net on image segmentation by extracting flooded areas in the Khorat basin, Mekong river basin, and Cagayan river basin in Thailand, Laos, and the Philippines from Sentinel-1 A/B satellite data. Results show that Global Accuracy, Mean IoU, and Mean BF Score of SegNet are 0.9847, 0.6016, and 0.6467 respectively, whereas those of U-Net are 0.9937, 0.7022, 0.7125. Visual interpretation shows that the classification accuracy of U-Net is higher than SegNet, but overall processing time of SegNet is around three times faster than that of U-Net. It is anticipated that the results of this research could be used when developing deep learning-based flood monitoring models and presenting fully automated flooded area extraction models.
