Heat is generated during the synthesis and mixing process of chemical compounds due to a change in activation energy during the reaction. A runaway reaction occurs when sufficient heat is not removed during the heat control process within a reactor, rapidly increasing the temperature, reaction speed, and rate of heat generation inside the reactor. A risk assessment was executed using an RC-1 (Reaction Calorimeter) during Friedel-Crafts acylation. Friedel-Crafts acylation runs the risk of rapid heat generation during Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing; it was used to confirm the risk of a runaway reaction at each synthesis stage and during the mixing process. This study used experimental data to develop a safety efficiency improvement plan to control the risks of runaway and other exothermic reactions, which was implemented at the production site of a chemical plant.
The rate of industrial accident reduction is slowing down as the attention of the Ministry of Employment and Labor and related agencies on risk assessment systems decreased. this paper focuses on weakness of legal system for the risk assessment in recent years. A survey was conducted to identify the status and condition of the risk assessment system applying on small and medium-sized manufacturing companies. A set of questionnaires is designed to reflect various perspectives of the companies regarding the problems and solutions of the system. The results refer that differentiated instructions and support systems in response to the actual conditions of the companies are mandatory to reinforce the efficiency of risk assessment system.
Objectives: The promotion of health and safety (H&S) awareness among hospital staff can be applied through various methods. The aim of this study was to assess the risk level of physical hazards in the hospital sector by combining workers' perception, experts' evaluation and objective measurements. Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed using multiple triangulation. Hospital staff (n = 447) filled in an H&S questionnaire in a general hospital in Athens and an oncology one in Thessaloniki. Experts observed and filled in a checklist on H&S in the various departments of the two hospitals. Lighting, noise and microclimate measurements were performed. Results: The staff's perception of risk was higher than that of the experts in many cases. The measured risk levels were low to medium. In cases of high-risk noise and lighting, staff and experts agreed. Staff's perception of risk was influenced by hospital's department, hospital's service, years of working experience and level of education. Therefore, these factors should be taken into account in future studies aimed at increasing the participation of hospital workers. Conclusion: This study confirmed the usefulness of staff participation in the risk assessment process, despite the tendency for staff to overestimate the risk level of physical hazards. The combination of combining staff perception, experts' evaluation and objective measures in the risk assessment process increases the efficiency of risk management in the hospital environment and the enforcement of relevant legislation.
The main purposes of dam safety assessment are to predict risk of an existing dam and to reduce the identified risks reasonably. This study determined the risks of an existing dam for each different dam breach scenario using risk analysis. In addition, the application of risk analysis in the dam safety assessment made possible to compare and evaluate a variety of alternatives that may reduce risk of an existing dam with respect to the possibility of dam failure and economic efficiency, On the ground of the risk analysis results, the dam safety analysts can obtain better understanding and more information regarding the risk of and existing dam and recommended alternatives. Decision-makers will be able to manage risk of an existing dam efficiently by spending their affordable money and resources on the alternatives that are expected to reduce the risk of an existing dam practically.

Takaful, which is an Islamic insurance instrument, manages risks in business, according to Shariah (Islamic law) principles and offers risk protection and savings assets. The study analyzes the comparative efficiency of takaful insurance companies by implementing empirical research. The study also provides a comprehensive literature review on the efficiency analysis of the takaful industry. The empirical part presents a wide range of efficiency comparisons of 41 takaful insurance companies in 16 countries between 2009 and 2014. The data enveloping analysis technique is utilized using the rDEA package in the R environment to compute the efficiency score. In the study, the technical efficiency, overall technical efficiency, and pure technical efficiency are calculated and compared per year and per country. The findings of the study suggest that the overall average efficiency scores of takaful companies are considerably high. The study results also indicate that the excess in the consumption of inputs decreases while the deficit in achieved outputs has been declining in the covered period. The study suggests the managers of the takaful companies can use the target efficiency scores, which are calculated by using the DEA analysis, as an ideal reference benchmark for planning their inputs and outputs.
Interests on collaborative research and academic relationship among researchers have been increased. Collaborative researchers can maximize productivity, time and cost savings, and reduce the risk of research. An empirical study on the research productivity of co-authors' network and review efficiency of the reviewer network was conducted based on co-author networks and reviewer networks in Korea Society of IT Service. This study aims to find the characteristics of the co-author and reviewer networks, and to analyze research productivity and review efficiency in order to draw some implications. The meaning of interactions among professional groups was analyzed. Research productivity index was calculated using 728 authors' papers submitted to the society. In order to verify the effects of indicators of social network analysis on research productivity and review efficiency, correlation and regression analyses were used. As a result, the indicators of network centrality did not affect the review efficiency, but affect the research productivity.

This study analyzed the efficiencies of Korean fisheries cooperative's 97 operation offices in the capital and surrounding area. We used the DEA model for checking the technical and scale efficiencies in the financial business of them. We divided the business into two parts, the productivity (efficiency for increasing deposit and loan) and profitability (efficiency for increasing the profit and reducing the risk from the loan). The results show that the additional profitability increase is very difficult because most of the offices have full technical efficiency for profitability. But additional analysis based on Slack-based Measure (SBM) DEA model shows that Kyung-Gi region can increase the profitability. SBM model analysis also gives us the possibility that customized policy can apply to each offices considering each factors affecting the productivity and profitability.

The Korean construction industry has been severely impacted by the 2008 global financial crisis, which resulted in a significant reduction in the overall contract amount. For survival, many construction management (CM) companies had to adapt a strategy of lowering bid prices to maintain their competitiveness. As a result of the strategy, companies faced a number of issues including their decreased capability in risk management. However, most risk management-related studies focused on construction risk management, yet these studies lacked consideration of enterprise-level risk management practices. To fill the gap, the objectives of the present study are (1) to investigate, the risk management practices of Korean CM companies, (2) to identify factors that determine efficient enterprise-level risk management practices, and (3) to propose a module for the development of enterprise-level risk management. Lastly, the efficiency of the proposed development module was validated by using a survey.

Objectives: The production and use of nanoparticles have been increased. In 2014 Workplace Survey Results, 335 companies produce and treat nanoparticls. However, lack of data on nano-toxicity and a method for risk management and regulation on nanoparticles and the standard test method are not sufficient. Protective equipment selection guidelines for nanoparticles are not established. It is required to carry out respirator efficiency test against nanoparticles. This study was performed to evaluate filtration efficiency and manikin-based total inward leakage of particle filtering mask using in Korean country challenged with silver nanoparticles. Methods: We investigated filtration efficiency and total inward leakage of 7 respirator with silver nanoparticle. Results: The geometric mean diameters of Silver nanoparticles were 30 nm and number concentration were about $10^6{\sharp}/cm^3$. Filtration efficiency of six of the seven particle filtering masks was more than 98% and one particle filtering masks filtration efficiency was 94.9%. The filtration efficiency of particle filtering masks to 20 nm silver nanoparticels was highest. Artificial breathing machine with manikin based total inward leakage were 7.6% ~ 42.3%. Conclusions: The results of this study nano-silver filter efficiency was high but the total inward leakage was higher than filter penetration. Therefore, education on how to wear a respirator should be demanded. Especially for workers handling nanoparticles and toxic material, user seal checking and fit test must be performed.
Objectives The objective of this study is to provide the evidence of the effectivness of herbal medicine for frozen shoulder. Methods 2 Korean medical on-line databases (Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System, Korean Traditional Knowledge), and 3 foreign databases (Pubmed, Cochrane library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure) were searched to find articles concerning herbal medicine for frozen shoulder. We selected randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Several repeated articles and those not relevant to the topic were excluded, as well as review articles and commentaries. The methodological quality of RCTs were evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias tool and meta-analyes were perfomed. Results Total 474 studies were founded and 22 RCTs were selected for systematic review. Efficiency rate was used as the primary evaluation method. Almost studies reported that herbal medicine has significant effect on pain reduction, increasing shoulder function on frozen shoulder. 3 studies comparing herbal medicine and chuna with chuna and 3 studies comparing herbal medicine with ibuprofen were included in the meta-analysis. At herbal medicine and chuna with chuna meta-analysis, it showed positive results of herbal medicine for efficiency rate (risk ratio: 1.18, 95% confidence interval: 1.09-1.27, p<0.0001). At herbal medicine with ibuprofen medta-analysis, it showed positive results of herbal medicine for efficiency rate (risk ratio: 1.15, 95% confidence interval: 1.05-1.27, p=0.003). Conclusions The studies showed that herbal medicine can significantly effective on frozen shoulder. However, the risk of bias in RCTs were evaluated as uncertain. In the future, further well-designed RCTs are needed to prove the effectiveness of herbal medicine for frozen shoulder and reduce the risk of bias.
