This study was undertaken to compare the activity of masticatory muscle between normal occlusion and anterior openbite. 33 subjects without the experience of orthodontic treatment, missing teeth and the symptom of T. M. disorders were selected for this study : 25 subjects were normal occlusion and 8 subjects were anterior openbite. The ten items were measured from the cephalometric headplates, and EMG recordings of the anterior temporal and masseter muscle were taken at rest position and during maximum clenching at centric occlusion. All data were analyzed and processed with the computer statistical method. The following results were obtained : 1. At rest position, the muscle activities of both temporal and masseter muscle were higher in anterior openbite than in normal occlusion. 2. During maximum clenching, the muscle activities of both temporal and masseter muscle were prominently lower in anterior openbite than in normal occlusion. 3. At rest position, the temporal muscle of anterior openbite showed the highest muscle activity, but showed the lowest muscle activity during maximum clenching. 4. Anterior openbite showed closer interrelationship between facial morphology and the muscle activity, and the muscle activity was more influenced by the form of mandible than that of maxilla.

The purpose of this study is to define the effect of taping and icing on muscle fatigue at knee joint of ordinary adult. The 30 adults meeting research standard were chosen to be observed. The period of the research was 9 days and N-K table was used as equipment to measure position sense of knee joint. Heart rate monitor was also used to measure heart beat during both when in comfortable state and in exercises. For the method of this study, error in position sense of knee joint was measured right before fatigue occurs. Then volunteers were to be exercised for 10 minutes in treadmill aiming to raise the heart beat to 90%. If muscle fatigue occurs after the exercise, let the comparative group rest for 20 minutes while applying taping for group 1 and icing for group 2. For the icing, it was applied for 3 minutes followed by 1 minute rest. 5 sets of icing were applied on thighs and calf each, Then error of position sense of knee joint was measured same way it was done before muscle fatigue. As the result, there were similar differences among comparative group(p<.05), group 1 and group 2 before the muscle fatigue and after the muscle fatigue. There were similar differences in comparative group with muscle fatigue, group 1 and group 2 as the result of one-way ANOVA and with further examination, similar differences were only found in between comparative group and group 2(p<.05). With the result, we can see there wasn't clear effect of rest, icing or taping, however, group 2 with icing showed better condition compared to comparative group who have rested without any application.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of bed angles and bed rest time combined with hemostatic methods on discomfort and hemorrhagic complications in patients after transfemoral cerebral angiography. Methods: Data were collected from 93 inpatients following transfemoral cerebral angiography, from April 20 to September 23, 2016. Patients were grouped according to bed angle ($0^{\circ}$ vs. $30^{\circ}$) and bed rest time combined with hemostatic methods (4-hour bed rest after manual compression vs. 2-hour bed rest after applying vascular closure device). Results: There was a significant group differences on discomfort (F=46.44, p<.001). The post-hoc analysis showed the lowest score of discomfort in those with bed angle $30^{\circ}$ and 2-hour bed rest. There was no difference in hemorrhagic complications among 4 groups. Conclusion: The postangiograpy discomfort can be effectively reduced with the least hemorrhagic complications by bed angle $30^{\circ}$ elevation and 2-hour bed rest after applying vascular closure device for those underwent transfemoral cerebral angiography.

Purpose: The study was done to investigate whether positioning relieves the back pain and enhances comfort during bed rest after transhepatic arterial chemoembolization(TACE). Methods: A quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design was used. The experimental group was placed semi Fowler's position for the first 2 hours. The following 4 hours the position was rotated hourly between 30 degrees laterally inclined position and a semi Fowler's position. The control group was maintained in a supine position for the 6 hours. Data were analyzed using t-test, $x^2$-test, Fisher's exact test and repeated measures ANOVA. Results: 1) Back pain intensity significantly decreased in the experimental group compared to the control group. 2) Comfort level significantly decreased in both groups, but there was no significant difference between the two groups. 3) There were no hematoma and bleeding complication in either group. In addition, there was no significant difference in urinary retention between the two groups. 4) Analgesics were less frequently taken by the experimental group. Conclusion: These results suggest that positioning relieves back pain without causing an increased incidence of hematoma and bleeding formation after TACE and this nursing intervention might help patients be more comfortable during the treatment of TACE.
The author studied masticatory muscle activity and bite force in normal persons without Temporomandibular Disorders(TMD) signs and symptoms, The number of subjects was 15, and the age of them was from 22 to 25 years. Electromyography was used to record the muscle activity in tapping and clenching movement with or without occlusal splint. 3 splints were made from 3 different mandibular position, that if, centric occlusion position, Rocabado's mandibular rest position, Dawson's centric relation position. The thickness of splint was 3.0-3.5㎜ at molar region. The muscle examined were Masseter and Anterior Temporalis attached with surface electrodes and the device used to measure the EMG level was Bioelectric processor Model EM2. After recording the EMG, the author measured the bite force level in clenching movement with bite force meter Model MPM-3000 in the dame position used in the EMG experiment. The obtained results were as follow : 1. With occlusal splints insetion, the amount of decreased muscle activity in Anterior Temporalis was more than those in Masseter. 2. In the three maxillomandibular relationships with occlusal splints, Masseter showed slightly increased level of muscle in centric occlusion but Ant. Temporalis showed decreased level of muscle activity reversely in that position. 3. Muscle activities between Rocabado's rest position and Dawson's centric relation position were generally similar whatever the muscles or the movements the author examined. 4. Bite force in clenching movement increased with splints insertion, especially with the splint registered in centric occlusion position.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the mandibular opening and closing movements at mandibular incisor region and clinical rest position in normal subject using the newly developed electric mandibular movement analyzing device, (M.K.G.-K6 diagnostic system, Myo-tronics Inc. Seattle, WA, U.S.A.) The 58 normal subjects, who were students of the College of Dentistry, Chonbuk National University, were selected according to sampling criteria. The obtained results were as follows: 1. There was no significant difference of distribution of opening and closing movement patterns at mandibular incisor region between male and female. There was significant difference between habitual and maximum movement patterns both in sagittal and frontal plane. 2. Although the percentage of distribution of crossover pattern was highest in all cases, but there were significant differences between patterns only at habitual opening and closing movement in sagittal plane. 3. The mean of maximum opening was $47.29{\pm}4.68mm$ in male and $42.15{\pm}4.95mm$ in female. Therefore the mean of maximum opening was larger in male than in female. 4. The mean of maximum laterotrusion in frontal trajectory was larger to the left than to the right. Also the proportion of left deviation at maximum opening position was larger than that of other cases. 5. The mean of maximum opening and closing velocity was higher in male than in female and the mean of closing velocity was higher than that of opening velocity. Also the amount of separation from the centric occlusion was higher in maximum closing velocity than in maximum opening velocity. 6. Clinical rest position was $1.70{\pm}0.99mm$ inferior, $0.74{\pm}0.57mm$ anterior, $0.99{\pm}0.51mm$ right from centric occlusion and the A/V ratio was 1:2.7.
The prime objective of this study was to analyze the positional relationship of the lips to the anterior teeth according to age, sex, and both sides of the dental arch in 381 healthy Korean adults with normal occlusion ranging from 17 to 70 years over old. The results were as follows; 1. In the position of the corner of the mouth to the teeth, the range from center of canine to mesial side of first premolar was revealed the incidence of 81~87%, the distal side of canine was the hiqhest frequency of 39~43%. 2. A straight type (76~79%) of lip line was prevailed against the curved type in rest position. 3. In the exposed type of anterior teeth to upper lip in rest position, type III(50~52%) Grade 2 (26~29%) was revealed the highest frequency of occurences. 4. No significant difference in both sexes and sides of the dental arch was observed. 5. Lip position to the teeth with aging was showed the tendency toward straight type in lip line and toward reduction of the number of exposed type of upper anterior teeth to upper lip, and the corner of the mouth was placed posteriorly.
52 Dental students without masticatory problems were selected for this study. They were trained on several mandibular position and mandibular movement exercise, that is, rest position, light bite, tapping, hinge opening, habitual opening, opening limitation, stretch exercise, resistance exercise and clenching. The objectives of this study was to investigate the effects of mandibular movement exercise, especially stretch and resistance, on the experimentally guided limited mouth opening. Muscle activity of the anterior temporalis and the masseter on above mentioned position or exercise were recorded with bioelectric processor EM2(Myotronics, U.S.A.) and the data were processed with SPSS. The obtained results were as follows : 1. Activity of the muscles at rest position were decreased with mandibular movement exercise. 2. Forceful mouth opening on opening limitation increased muscle activity greatly, especially of the masseter. 3. On opening limitation, stretch or resistance exercise was very efficient for decrease of muscle activities. 4. There were no difference of muscle activity between on hinge opening and on habitual opening. Therefore, for muscle relaxation, the two movement exercise can be used interchangeably.
The author studied the changes of muscle activity with Bioelectric processor Model EM2(Myotronics Corp., USA) before and after occlusal stabilization splint therapy. For this study, 15 temporomandibular disorders patients and 15 students without any temporomandibular disorders symptoms were selected, for experimental group and control group, respectively. Experimental group were treated with occlusal stabilization splint and checked about electromyographic activity before and after therapy. Electromyographic levels were measured in both groups at the following mandibular position, i.e., physiologic rest, tapping, light biting, hard open without pain, open with pain, right excursion and ipsilateral biting, left excursion and ipsilateral biting, protrusion, protrusive biting, edge biting and physiologic rest after movement. The obtained results were as follows : 1. In experimental group, post-treatment mean values of muscle activity were lower than pretreatment values. 2. In general, the pre-treatment mean values of muscle activity in experimental group were higher than those of control group. 3. In experimental group, no statistically significant difference appeared between affected and unaffected side. 4. The mean value of muscle activity in physiologic rest position after each movement check was lower than that before each movement check.
The electrical activities of masseter muscle were recorded on 9 subjects with unilateral fracture of mandible. The electromyographic studies were executed with 2 channel RS dynograph recorder for electromyography. The graphs were recorded in the physiologic rest position, incisal occlusion, molar occlusion, left lateral excursion, right lateral excursion, and protraction. The following conclusions were drawn;
1. In the physiologic rest position, incisal occlusion, molar occlusion, and protraction, the electrical potentials of the masseter muscle were greater in the affected side.
2. In the right lateral excursion, the electrical potentials of the masseter muscle were greater in the right side, and in the left lateral excursion, greather in the left side. There is no correlation mutually between the affected side and unaffected side.
