The effects of CPR education on CPR knowledge and self-efficacy for dental hygiene students from different regions

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the knowledge and self-efficacy of dental hygiene students after cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) education. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 260 dental hygiene students in the period between 5 November 2015 and 30 December 2015. The data analysis was performed by SPSS win 22.0 program for frequency analysis, chi-square analysis, and dichotomies multiple response analysis. Results: Self-efficacy and knowledge increased after CPR education. Most of the dental hygiene students are statistically significant difference in self-efficacy depending on CPR knowledge. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, we suggest that the theory and practice of CPR, if taught to dental hygiene students, will boost their self-efficacy, and enable them to perform it correctly when faced with and emergency situation.

대학생의 반례 생성과 참 명제 제기 과정에 대한 연구 (The Study on the Process of Undergraduate Students' Generating Counter-Examples and Proposing True Statements)

  • There has been increasing interest in recent years in the pedagogical importance of counter-examples that focuses on pedagogical perspectives. But there is no research that undergraduate students' generating counter-examples and proposing the true statements. This study analyze 6 undergraduate students' response to interview tasks and the process of their generating counter-examples and proposing true statements. The results of interviews are that the more undergraduate students generate various counter-examples, the more valid they propose true statements. If undergraduate students have invalid understanding of logical implication and generate only one counter-example, they would not propose true statements that modify the given statement, preserving the antecedent. In pre-service teacher's education and school mathematics class, we need to develop materials and textbooks about counter-examples and false statements.

향기요법이 고등학생의 스트레스와 스트레스 반응에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Aromatherapy on Stress and Stress Responses in Adolescents)

  • Purpose: This study was done to examine the effects of aromatherapy on stress and stress responses in adolescents. Methods: A two-group cross-over design was used for this study. The experimental treatment was aroma essential oil inhalation and the placebo treatment was carrier oil inhalation using a necklace. The sample included 36 female high school students. Fisher's exact test, t-test, and paired t-test using SPSS/WIN program were used to analyze the data. Results: Stress levels were significantly lower when the students received the aroma treatment compared to when they received the placebo treatment. The stress responses except salivary IgA levels were significantly lower when the students received the aroma treatment. Conclusion: Aroma inhalation could be a very effective stress management method for high school students. Therefore, it is recommended that this program be used in clinical practice as an effective nursing intervention for high school students.

IAPS 자극에 대한 한국 대학생의 정서 평가 (Emotional Evaluation about IAPS in Korean University Students)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 IAPS 자극에 대한 한국인의 정서 반응을 측정하여 평가하는데 있다. 특히 Lang 등(2005)이 제작한 956장의 IAPS 그림자극 전체에 대한 반응을 측정하여 IAPS 자극에 대한 한국인 정서 반응의 평가 척도를 작성하였다. 또한 IAPS 자극에 대한 한국인의 평가 결과를 Lang 등(2005)이 제시한 미국인의 평가 결과와 비교함으로써 두 집단 간 차이를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 결과, IAPS 자극에 대한 각성과 정서가 반응 모두에서 한국인과 미국인은 서로 높은 상관을 보였다. 그러나 세부적인 측면에서 집단 간 차이가 뚜렷하게 드러났는데, 한국인이 미국인에 비해 IAPS 자극에 대해 더 높은 각성 반응과 덜 극단적인 정서반응을 보였다. 또한 성별에 따른 차이를 비교한 결과, 두 나라 모두 여성이 남성에 비해 높은 각성 반응을 보였다는 점은 일치했지만, 정서가 반응에 있어서는 한국 여성은 부정적으로, 미국 여성은 극단적으로 반응했다. 이 연구 결과는 정서 반응에 있어서 문화와 성별에 따른 차이가 존재함을 보여주는 것으로서 IAPS 자극을 활용한 연구에서 이 요인들을 고려해야 함을 시사한다.

Korean EFL Students' Reader Responses on an Expository Text and a Narrative Text

  • This paper examines Korean EFL high school students' reader responses on an expository text and a narrative text with the same topic. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether they have different reading models depending on the two genres and whether there are any differences depending on the learners' proficiency levels. The analysis focuses on textual, critical, and aesthetic reading models in the reader responses written in English by science-gifted high school students (N=30). The results show that the participants have different reading models in reading an expository text and a narrative text. They tend to read the expository text in a more critical way while reading the narrative text in a more personal and emotional way. Moreover, regardless of the proficiency levels, they wrote longer responses on the narrative text than the expository text. However, the proficiency level of English does not support any significant differences in the types of reading models. The findings provide Korean EFL high school students' characteristics in L2 reading and suggest the pedagogical implication to pursue linguistic development as well as reading for pleasure.

일개 물리치료과 학생들의 임상실습만족도에 관한 연구 (A Survey Study on the Degree of Satisfaction with the Practical Training for the Students in the Department of Physical Therapy)

  • To overcome obstacles and to attain the goals of practical training for the students in the department of physical therapy it is necessary to effective an effective system for practical training. And to develop a good System it is essential to monitor the response of the students in practical training of physical therapy and to gather fundamental data. The author made up a questionnaire to the students in the department of physical therapy after the end of practical training course. The questionnaire consisted of 13 questionnaire for the general characterisitcs of the students, 19 questions for the degree of satisfaction (4 for the environment of practical training, 4 for the environment of practical training, 4 for the content 3 for the time assignment and 4 for the evaluation) and one open question. As results the students were satisfied with the practicality and fresh experience. But they were relatively unsatisfied with the environment of the practical training and the number and sincerity of the trainers. Especially they were dissatisfied with the correspondence with the objectives of education, conection with the lecture, communication with the trainers, time assignment and evaluation. As a Part of efforts to formulate an effective system fer practical training it is necessary to estabilish concrete goals and detail check lists to guide both trainers and students.

경기도 일부지역 중학생의 식습관 및 영양지식 분석을 통한 영양교육 요구도 조사 (A Survey of the Needs of Nutrition Education Based on Analysis of Eating Habits and Nutrition Knowledge among Middle School Students in Kyung-Gi Province)

  • This study was conducted to examine the needs of nutrition education based on analysis of the eating habits and nutrition knowledge among middle school students. The survey was conducted on 536 students (boys=216, girls=320) using a questionnaire. The average number of meals consumed was three (67.5%) and 58.0% of students reported having breakfast. Concerning the nutritional knowledge, students showed the highest score (girls, 0.90${\pm}$0.03 and boys 0.82${\pm}$0.04) for items describing the proper diet plan for obesity. Additionally, nutritional knowledge was found to have a significant effect on dietary habits. Regarding the necessity for nutrition education, high response rates for "For normal growth of students (44.8%)" and "Help to select proper food and choose safe food (24.0%)" were observed. Taken together, these findings indicate that consistent and systematic management is required under the institutional support by the school to improve students' perception regarding nutrition and to develop effective nutrition education.

중국 유학생의 학업성취 및 중도탈락 분석에 관한 실증연구 (An Empirical Study on the Analysis of Chinese Foreign Students' Academic Achievement and Fallout)

  • In response to the recent decline in the school-age population, universities have made attracting foreign students a major policy task for universities. As a result, the number of foreign students increased rapidly in terms of quantity, but in terms of quality, the risk is inevitable. Accordingly, the government presented education and internationalization competency certification system indicators on the basis of which quality control of students was systematized. Based on the above certification system, this study focused on analyzing the multiple factors that are actually given to the academic adaptation (performance) of the 2200 students who entered a certain university. In addition, factors other than the certification system index were discovered to comprehensively track how they affect the academic performance of students studying abroad. The researcher found the multi-reciprocal model analysis showed that the difference between the learner and the moderator was significant, and whether or not they had the Korean proficiency test (TOPIK) was significant. It also said that it could have a direct impact on Chinese University Entrance Exams (高考) are significant. If a model that is very effective in selecting students is established by each university and used as an indicator through this study, it will serve as a basis for efficient selection of students.

Gifted Students and Advanced Mathematics

  • The extension to a wide population of secondary education in many advanced countries seems to have led to a weakening of the mathematics curriculum. In response, many students have been classified as "gifted" so that they can access a stronger program. Apart from the difficulties that might arise in actually determining which students are gifted (Is it always clear what the term means?), there are dangers inherent in programs that might be devised even for those that are truly talented. Sometimes students are moved ahead to more advanced mathematics. Elementary students might be taught algebra or even subjects like trigonometry and vectors, and secondary students might be taught calculus, differential equations and linear algebra. It is my experience over thirty-five years of contact with bright students that acceleration to higher level mathematics is often not a good idea. In this paper, I will articulate some of the factors that have led me to this opinion and suggest alternatives. First, I would like to emphasize that in matters of education, almost every statement that can be made to admit counterexamples; my opinion on acceleration is no exception. Occasionally, a young Gauss or Euler walks in the door, and one has no choice but to offer the maximum encouragement and allow the student to go to the limit of his capabilities. A young genius can demonstrate an incredible amount of mathematical insight, maturity and mastery of technique. A classical example is probably the teen-age Euler, who in the 1720s was allowed regular audiences with Jean Bernoulli, the foremost mathematician of his day.

대학생이 희망하는 신혼부부주택의 조건 (The desire of undergraduate and postgraduate students newly married housing requirements)

  • With the rise in national GNP, there has been a surge in people requiring adequate housing. The most who are in need of adequate housing are fresh graduates who have entered the job market, and newly-wed couples. Given the current economic condition it is difficult for young people and newly-wed couples to find reasonably affordable accommodations. In response to this, the government is trying to formulate a new policy, with the aim of helping young married couples find decent accommodation in response to the housing shortage. Research was performed last July with the aim of looking at the differences between the newlyweds' expectation of the idealistic housing and conditions. Questionnaires were distributed to undergraduate and postgraduate research students to find out their requirements. The questionnaire investigated the social background and the condition of the inhabited area; housing type internal facilities; the space required for housing; interior finishing, and storage facilities. The survey results were analyzed using SPSS and found that the design of small residential areas, the space requirements of more diversified individualized areas were the most important concerns for undergraduate and postgraduate research students. From the study we hope this will form a foundation for the design of the future housing social stratum. It is hoped that the current results and conclusions of this survey will be of help for the korean community to provide a direction and a positive input in the future design of newly married housing.
