During hospital peak times of outpatients, an effective mechanism that informs the newly receipted patient information to corresponding medical departments is lacking in current hospital reception systems. Since every department repeatedly searches entire patient reception database in sequential manner to acquire its reception information, this is a significant performance degradation factor in hospital information system. To improve hospital reception system efficiency, we developed two web socket based systems, a primary key transmitting batch system and a reception information transmitting real time system. The former reduced database access time compared to sequential search system as well as kept search time low regardless of receipted patient number. The latter effectively reduced waiting list updating time in request/response patient reception system by eliminating database access.
In this paper, we present POSSDM (POSTECH Situation-Based Dialogue Manager) for a spoken dialogue system using a new example and situation-based dialogue management technique for effective generation of appropriate system responses. Spoken dialogue system should generate cooperative responses to smoothly control dialogue flow with the users. We introduce a new dialogue management technique incorporating dialogue examples and situation-based rules for EPG (Electronic Program Guide) domain. For the system response inference, we automatically construct and index a dialogue example database from dialogue corpus, and the best dialogue example is retrieved for a proper system response with the query from a dialogue situation including a current user utterance, dialogue act, and discourse history. When dialogue corpus is not enough to cover the domain, we also apply manually constructed situation-based rules mainly for meta-level dialogue management.

Genetic Algorithms (GA) have some difficulties in practical applications because of too many function evaluations. To overcome these limitations, an approximated modeling method such as Response Surface Modeling(RSM) is coupled to GAs. Original RSM method predicts linear or convex problems well but it is not good for highly nonlinear problems cause of the average effect of the least square method(LSM). So the locally approximated methods. so called as moving least squares method(MLSM) have been used to reduce the error of LSM. In this study, the efficient evolutionary GAs tightly coupled with RSM with MLSM are constructed and then a 2-dimensional inviscid airfoil shape optimization is performed to show its efficiency.

This paper proposes and validates the extension of two models, previously formulated for the evaluation of the shear strength of reinforced concrete members with un-corroded reinforcements, to the case of beams with corroded stirrups. These extended models are based on the plasticity theory (this model has been proposed in the past by one of the authors) and on the simplified modified compression field theory. The response of these models is compared with that of the compression chord capacity model, which has recently been embedded with modifications that simulate the effects of steel corrosion. These latter modifications are first discussed and then introduced into the other two models. An existing database of slender and non-slender beams tested in laboratory by other researchers is revised and improved. Finally, all the considered models are applied to the selected specimens and a comparison is drawn between the shear strength resulting from the considered models and the shear strength resulting from the laboratory tests. The effects of corrosion on some important parameters of the ultimate shear response of the reinforced concrete beams are also discussed.

Background: A number of association studies have been carried out to investigate the relationship between genetic polymorphisms in DNA repair genes and response to radiotherapy-based multimodality treatment of patients with rectal cancer. However, their conclusions were inconsistent. The objective of the present study was to assess the role of DNA repair gene genetic polymorphisms in predicting genetic biomarkers of the response in rectal cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiation. Materials and Methods: Studies were retrieved by searching the PubMed database, Cochrane Library, Embase, and ISI Web of Knowledge. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the association between genetic polymorphisms and the response in rectal cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiation by checking odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Data were extracted from 5 clinical studies for this meta-analysis. The results showed that XRCC1 RS25487, XRCC1 RS179978, XRCC3 RS861539, ERCC1 RS11615 and ERCC2 RS13181 were not associated with the response in the radiotherapy-based multimodality treatment of patients with rectal cancer (p>0.05). Conclusions: This study shows that DNA repair gene common genetic polymorphisms are not significantly correlated with the radiotherapy-based multimodality treatment in rectal cancer patients.

Since the unprecedented hydrogen fluoride leak accident in 2012, there has been growing demand for customized technical information for rapid response and chemical accident management agencies including the Ministry of Environment, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the National Police Agency need more information on chemicals and accident management. In this regard, this study aims to provide reliable technical data and guidelines to initial response agencies, similar to accident management technical reports of the US and Canada. In this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey and interviews on initial response agencies like fire stations, police stations, and local governments to identify new information items for appropriate initial response and improvements of current guidelines. We also collected and reviewed the Canada's TIPS, US EPA's hydrogen fluoride documents, domestic and foreign literature on applicability tests of control chemicals, and interview data, and then produced items to be listed in the technical guidelines. In addition, to establish database of on-site technical information, we carried out applicability tests for accident control data including ① emergency shut down devide, safety guard, shut down valve, ground connection, dyke, transfer pipe, scrubber, and sensor; ② literature and field survey on distribution type and transportation/storage characteristics (container identification, valve, ground connection, etc.); ③ classification and identification of storage/transportation facilities and emergency management methodslike leak prevention, chemicals control, and cutoff or bypass of rain drainage; ④ domestic/foreign analysis methods and environmental standards including portable detection methods, test standards, and exposure limits; and ⑤ comparison/evaluation of neutralization efficiency of control chemicals on toxic substances.

Lately, there has been increasing research on the prediction of motion performance using artificial intelligence for the safe design and operation of ships. However, compared to conventional ships, research on small fishing boats is insufficient. In this paper, we propose a model that estimates the motion response essential for calculating the motion performance of small fishing boats using a deep neural network. Hydrodynamic analysis was conducted on 15 small fishing boats, and a database was established. Environmental conditions and main particulars were applied as input data, and the response amplitude operators were utilized as the output data. The motion response predicted by the trained deep neural network model showed similar trends to the hydrodynamic analysis results. The results showed that the high-frequency motion responses were predicted well with a low error. Based on this study, we plan to extend existing research by incorporating the hull shape characteristics of fishing boats into a deep neural network model.
The growing market for geothermal heat pump system requires great consideration of quality control and assurance in design and construction. The borehole heat exchanger of GHP system should be sustainable, economical and ecological. Thermal Response Test (TRT) is a useful method for site investigation to obtain reliable data for a optimal system design from the technical and economical aspect. Intensive researches combined with exchange of experiences on an international level within the IEA ECES Annex 21 improved the technology. Major subjects on the interpretation of TRT are development of improved evaluation models, evaluation of the TRT with respect to geological layers and investigation of the influence of ground water. Current status of TRT in South Korea, as well as a new version of the Korean TRT standard test procedure was presented. TRT is mostly used for governmental supported projects with corresponds to more than 100 GCHP systems per year. More than 200 tests are applied, mostly on single U-tube heat exchangers (about 95%). Bentonite is the most common grouting to be used. KIGAM (Korea Institute of Geoscience & Mineral Resources) is also keeping a GIS geological and geothermal database. In the institute also laboratory measurements of rock properties are carried out. About 90% of the laboratory measurements of the rock heat conductivity shows higher values than the in-situ TRT.
The experimental design methodology was applied in the real scale coal-fired boiler to predict the various combustion properties according to the operating conditions and to assess the coal plant safety. Response surface method (RSM) was introduced as a design of experiment, and the database for RSM was provided with the numerical simulation of the coal-fired boiler. The three independent variables, high heating value of coal (HHV), overall stoichiometry excess air ratio (OST), and burner-side stoichiometry excess air ratio (BST), were set to characterize the cross section averaged NOx concentration and temperature distribution. The maximum NOx concentration was predicted accurately and mainly controlled by BST in the boiler. The parabola function was assumed for the zone averaged peak temperature distribution, and the prediction was in a fairly good agreement with the experiments except downstream. Also, the location of the peak temperature was compared with that of maximum NOx, which implies that thermal NOx formation is the main mechanism in the coal-fired boiler. These results promise the wide use of statistical models for the fast prediction and safety assessment.
