  • In this paper, we propose the design and fabrication on high frequency CMOS VCO for DS-UWB(Direct-Sequence Ultra-WideBand) applications using 0.18 ${\mu}m$ process. The complementary cross-coupled LC oscillator architecture which is composed of PMOS, NMOS symmetrically, is designed for improving the phase noise characteristic. The resistor is used instead of current source that reduce the 1/f noise of current source. The high-speed buffer is needed for measuring the output characteristic of VCO using spectrum analyzer, therefore the high-speed inverter buffer is designed with VCO. A fabricated core VCO size is $340{\mu}m{\times}535{\mu}m$. The VCO is tunable between 7.09 and 7.52 GHz and has a phase noise lower than -107 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset over entire tuning range. The measured harmonic suppression is 32 dB. The VCO core circuit draws 2.0 mA from a 1.8 V supply.

  • In the present work, we investigate the characteristics of new composition material, chalcogenide $Ge_1Se_1Te_2$ material in order to overcome the problems of conventional PRAM devices. The Tc of $Ge_1Se_1Te_2$ bulk was measured $231.503^{\circ}C$ with DSC analysis. For static DC test mode, at low voltage, two different resistances are observed. depending on the crystalline state of the phase-change resistor. In the first sweep, the as-deposited amorphous $Ge_1Se_1Te_2$ showed very high resistance. However when it reached the threshold voltage(about 11.8 V), the electrical resistance of device was drastically reduced through the formation of an electrically conducting path. The phase transition between the low conductive amorphous state and the high conductive crystal]me state was caused by the set and reset pulses respectively which fed through electrical signal. Set pulse has 4.3 V. 200 ns. then sample resistance is $80\sim100{\Omega}$. Reset pulse has 8.6 V 80 ns, then the sample resistance is $50{\sim}100K{\Omega}$. For such high resistance ratio of $R_{reset}/R_{set}$, we can expect high sensing margin reading the recorded data. We have confirmed that phase change properties of $Ge_1Se_1Te_2$ materials are closely related with the structure through the experiment of self-heating layers.

  • In this paper, a sleep management pillow system for snoring detection and respiration measurement is investigated. The sleep management pillow system consists of four force sensing resistor(FSR) sensors, two microphones(MIC), a pillow, a measurement system. Four FSR sensors attached at the bottom part of the pillow are used for respiration measurement and snoring detection. Two microphones located at the middle left and right of the pillow are utilized for only snoring detection. The respiration and the snoring of ten young people were measured using the sleep management pillow system composed of a data acquisition board, interface circuit, and personal computer. The measurement accuracy of the respiration was about 98% and the measurement accuracy of the snoring was about 97%. The experiment results show that the sleep management pillow system can be used for snoring detection and respiration rate measurement during sleeping.

  • This paper describes a phase-locked loop (PLL) that generates a 51-phase clock with the operating frequency of 125MHz. To generate 51-phase clock with a frequency of 125 MHz, the proposed PLL uses three voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs) which are connected by resistors. Each VCO consists of 17 delay-cells. An resistor averaging scheme, which makes three VCOs to connect with each other, makes it possible to generates 51-phase clock of the same phase difference. The proposed PLL is designed by using 65 nm CMOS process with a 1.0 V supply. At the operating frequency of 125 MHz, the simulated DNL and peak-to-peak jitter are +0.0016/-0.0020 LSB and 1.07 ps, respectively. The area and power consumption of the implemented PLL are $290{\times}260{\mu}m^2$ and 2.5 mW, respectively.

  • In order to remove the organic substances and the nitrate-nitrogen contained in wastewater, some researchers have studied the simultaneous removal of organics and nitrogen by using different biocathode microbial fuel cells (MFCs). The operating conditions for removing the contaminants in the MFCs are the external resistances, HRTs, the concentration of the influent wastewater, and other factors. This study aimed to determine the effect of the external resistors and organic loading rates, from the changing HRT, on the removal of the organics and nitrogen and on the production of electric power using the Denitrification Biocathode - Microbial Fuel Cell (DNB-MFC). As regards the results of the study, the removal efficiencies of $SCOD_{Cr}$ did not show any difference, but the nitrate-nitrogen removal efficiencies were increased by decreasing the external resistance. The maximum denitrification rate achieved was $129.2{\pm}13.54g\;NO_3{^-}-N/m^3/d$ in the external resistance $1{\Omega}$, and the maximum power density was $3,279mW/m^3$ in $10{\Omega}$. When the DNB-MFC was operated with increasing influent organic and nitrate loading by reducing the HRTs, the $NO_3{^-}-N$ removal efficiencies were increased linearly, and the maximum nitrate removal rate was $1,586g\;NO^3{^-}-N/m^3/d$ at HRT 0.6 h.

  • This paper dealt with the PD (partial discharge) characteristics produced by metallic particles presented in a gas insulated switchgear. Four types of metallic particles such as a ball, a trapezoid, a rectangle, and a twist were fabricated and placed in a PD cell filled with $SF_6$ gas. PD pulses were detected through a $50{\Omega}$ non-inductive resistor. Calibration was carried out according to IEC 60270 and the sensitivity was calculated as 4 mV/pC. Apparent charge, pulse count, DIV (discharge inception voltage), DEV (discharge extinction voltage), and TRPD (time resolved partial discharge) were analyzed. Among the metallic particle types, the twist frequently occurred PD pulse at the lowest DIV, while the rectangle showed the highest. DEV of the twist was about 2 times lower than that for the rectangle. Kurtosis of ball clustered at high value, and skewness of other three metallic particles distributed at low value. TRPD showed different distribution by metallic particle types.

  • The antagonistic rhizobacteria Pseudomonas(P.) fluorescens against F. oxysporum and R. solani were isolated and selected, and then, their biological and physiological characteristics were investigated. The posibility and optimum condition of the electroporation of antagonistic rhizobacteria with Ps70, one of the selected one, and plasmid pSV2-neo was studied. Its optimum condition was found with HGEB which contains 1 mM (pH 7.0) hepes and 10% glycerol at setting of 200 resistance, 25 ${\mu}F$ capacitance, and 2.5 kV applied voltage. In addition, the transformation efficiency obtained with pSV2-neo was compared to other plasmids with different sizes. The applied voltage, the buffer composition and the parallel resistor (time constant) were shown to have the greatest effect on transformation efficiency in electroporation. And the rest of the selected rhizobacteria were also successfully transformed with pSV2-neo by electroporation.

  • The fungi associated with termites secrete enzymes such as laccase (multi-copper oxidase) that can degrade extracellular wood matrix. Laccase uses molecular oxygen as an electron acceptor to catalyze the degradation of organic compounds. Owing to its ability to transfer electrons from the cathodic electrode to molecular oxygen, laccase has the potential to be a biocatalyst on the surface of the cathodic electrode of a microbial fuel cell (MFC). In this study, a two-chamber MFC using the laccase-producing fungus Galactomyces reessii was investigated. The fungus cultured on coconut coir was placed in the cathode chamber, while an anaerobic microbial community was maintained in the anode chamber fed by industrial rubber wastewater and supplemented by sulfate and a pH buffer. The laccase-based biocathode MFC (lbMFC) produced the maximum open circuit voltage of 250 mV, output voltage of 145 mV (with a $1,000{\Omega}$ resistor), power density of $59mW/m^2$, and current density of $278mA/m^2$, and a 70% increase in half-cell potential. This study demonstrated the capability of laccase-producing yeast Galactomyces reessii as a biocatalyst on the cathode of the two-chamber lbMFC.

  • This paper presents a wideband low-noise amplifier (LNA) covering 800MHz~5.8GHz for various wireless communication standards by utilizing in a 0.13um CMOS technology. Particularly, the LNA consists of two stages to improve the low-noise characteristics, that is, a cascode input stage and an output buffer with noise cancellation technique. Also, a feedback resistor is exploited to help achieve wideband impedance matching and wide bandwidth. Measure results demonstrate the bandwidth of 811MHz~5.8GHz, the maximum gain of 11.7dB within the bandwidth, the noise figure of 2.58~5.11dB. The chip occupies the area of $0.7{\times}0.9mm^2$, including pads. DC measurements reveal the power consumption of 12mW from a single 1.2V supply.

  • In this paper, we have developed a data monitoring system for activation analysis based on fuel heater of diesel cars. The light oil of diesel engine below a constant temperature be changed to the waxing materials of a semisolid status like a paraffin, and then it may not start. In order to evaluate an engine activation performance, we suggest an engine start time with an change between an extremely low temperature and high temperature, a delay time goes with heater resistor and current and pressure. So, we have developed sensor module system that can obtain the operational status data between fuel line and fuel heater, and evaluate the performance of fuel heater through monitoring of a temperature and pressure. Finally, we can gather the temperature and pressure data of this system with mobile terminal, remotely and propose an utility of this system that can find problems of fuel heater through measured data.
