  • A data transform is performed by using a point-electrode focusing method in order to obtain accurate and objective interpretation of the borehole normal resistivity data. Two new synthetic curves can be generated through the data transform. The one is an approximate apparent resistivity curve, which would be used to predict the true resistivity of the formation. The other one is a bed boundary coefficient curve, which would be used to distinguish bed boundaries. The accuracy of the normal data interpretation can be improved and this method takes much less computational time than a linear inversion technique. Moreover, this method does not require an initial guess model and limitation of number of unknown parameters. Since this algorithm can be run on a personal computer, an immediate interpretation would be possible at the field work site. If an additional set of electrodes(a=125cm)is attached to a normal resistivity tool which is being used (a=25cm, 50cm, 100cm), the apparent resistivity for the point-electrode focusing device can be calculated, and it would maximize the use of short and long normal resistivity data and promote the accuracy of the interpretation.

  • PURPOSES : The pole electrode method damaged the concrete pavement on inserting the electrode into the pavement surface. This study examined the feasibility of the flat electrode method to observe the concrete pavement instead of the pole electrode method and analyzed the resistivity characteristics of the concrete by performing laboratory tests. METHODS : The resistivity of the concrete specimens manufactured with three different mixing ratios (38.50%, 39.50%, and 40.50%) were measured using the pole and flat electrode methods according to the concrete age (7 and 28 days) and electrode spacing (20 mm, 30 mm, and 40 mm). RESULTS :In both pole and flat electrode methods, the resistivity increased with increasing fine aggregate proportion regardless of the concrete age. The resistivity measured at a concrete age of 28 days was slightly larger than that measured at 7 days. In the case of a concrete age of 7 days, the resistivity measured by the flat electrode method was larger than that measured by the pole electrode method. The difference disappeared at 28 days. CONCLUSIONS :The results suggest that the flat electrode method can replace the pole electrode method because the resistivity measured by both methods was similar. Hence, the development of a technology to apply the flat electrode method to actual concrete pavement is necessary.

  • In order to design effectively the grounding system, it is very important to determine the optimum soil resistivity at the desired location of the connection to earth. This paper deals with the reasonable methods of measuring the soil resistivity where grounding electrodes are buried. The soil resistivity at three test sites with different resistivity of soil were measured as functions of the spacing between the test probes in the Wenner's four-point method and the length of test ground rod in the three-point method. In the case of the three-point method, the length of test ground rod of 2-10[m] in length was appropriate in two-layered soil structure. In the length range of 2-10[m], the results measured by the three-point method using the test ground rod with the length corresponding to the spacing between the test probes of the Wenner's four-point method are in good agreement with the data obtained from the Wenner's four-point method.

  • In this paper reconstructing the internal resistivity and relative permittivity distribution is discussed. The iterative reconstruction method based on Finite Element method and Newton method were used to reconstruct both of resistivity ind permittivity distribution. The Finite Element model of impedance distribution is built in complex field of resistivity and capacitive medium. The reconstruction results based on computer simulated data and experimental data are presented.

  • Precision measurement of silicon wafer resistivity has been using single-configuration Four-Point Probe(FPP) method. This FPP method have to applying sample size, shape and thickness correction factor for a probe pin spacing to precision measurement of silicon wafer. The deference for resistivity measurement values applied correction factor and not applied correction factor was about 1.0 % deviation. The sample size, shape and thickness correction factor for a probe pin spacing have an effects on precision measurement for resistivity of silicon wafer.

  • This paper presents the method of sail-resistivity estimation using the backpropagation(BP) neural network. Existing estimation programs are expensive, and their estimation methods need complex techniques and take much time. Also, those programs have not become well spreaded in Korea yet. Soil resistivity estimation method using BP algorithm has studied for the reason mentioned above. This paper suggests the method which differs from expensive program or graphic technology requiring many input stages, complicated calculation and professional knowledge. The equivalent earth resistivity can be presented immediately after inputting apparent resistivity through the personal computer with a simplified Program without many Processing stages. This program has the advantages of reasonable accuracy, rapid processing time and confident of anti users.

  • The electrical resistivity method has been widely used for the efficient maintenance of tunnel. In this case, the main purpose of the survey is to find out resistivity distribution around the tunnel. However, resistivity data are severely distorted by the tunnel, which make it hard to detect anomalous zones developed around the tunnel. In this study, using the finite element modeling, we analyze resistivity data distorted by the tunnel. Finally, we propose a simple method to correct the tunnel effect.

  • The apparent volume resistivity of powders measured by both the tapping and the compressing methods was compared in this study. Factors such as applied voltage, pressure, corona charging, and so on affecting the apparent volume resistivity of polymer powders were also examined experimentally. Powders of polyacrylonitrile and Nylon 11 were mainly used. The values of the apparent resistivity of polymer powders taken by the tapping method turned out to be larger than those taken by the compressing method, which indicates that the apparent volume resistivity of polymer powders depends strongly on the measurement method. The apparent resistivity of polymer powders increased with an increase in applied voltage while it decreased with an increase in pressure, tapping time, and particle size. The influence of the moisture content of powder and corona charging on the resistivity of polymer powders is also discussed.

  • This paper presents to examine the ability of an electrical resistivity method to monitor the grouting effect at subsidence area. To monitor the changes in ground resistivity before and during the grout, series of electrical resistivity monitoring surveys have been conducted. Data has acquired in the form of grid making nine lines parallel to road and four lines traverse the road. Two kinds of electrode arrays modify pole-pole and dipole-dipole arrays were used during resistivity data acquisition. In this paper, the results show that electrical prospecting is an effective method to detect low resistivity imaging zone by grout during the ground reinforcement.

  • The apparent soil resistivity is used for estimating multilayer soil parameters, such as, layer's depth and soil resistivity. The soil parameters are estimated by continuously revising those parameters until the error between the measured and calculated apparent soil resistivity reaches to allowable level. The equation for calculating the apparent soil resistivity is complicated and time consumed, because it is composed of an infinite integral which includes a zero order Bessel's function of the first kind. In this paper, a fast algorithm for calculating the apparent soil resistivity of horizontal multilayer earth structure is proposed using exponential sampling method.
