Recently, Concrete-filled double skin steel tubular (CFDST) columns have proven an exceptional structural resistance in terms of strength, stiffness, and ductility. However, the resistance of these column members can be severely affected by the type of loading in which bending stresses increase in direct proportion with axial load and eccentricity value. This paper presents a non-linear finite element based modeling approach that studies the behavior of slender CFDST columns under biaxial loading. Finite element models were calibrated based on the outcomes of experimental work done by other researchers. Results from simulations of slender CFDST columns under axial loading eccentric in one direction showed good agreement with the experimental response. The calibrated models are expanded to a total of thirty models that studies the behavior of slender CFDST columns under combined compression and biaxial bending. The influences of parameters that are usually found in practice are taken into consideration in this paper, namely, eccentricity-to-diameter (e/D) ratios, slenderness ratios, diameter-to-thickness (D/t) ratios, and steel contribution ratios. Finally, an analytical study based on current code provisions is conducted. It is concluded that South African national standards (2011) provided the most accurate results contrasted with the Eurocode 4 (2004) and American Institute of Steel Construction (2016) that are found to be conservative. Accordingly, correction factors are proposed to the current design guidelines to provide more satisfactory results.
Prestressed composite steel-concrete beams are still a technology restricted to repair sites of large-scale structures and spans. One of the reasons for that is the absence of standard frameworks and publications regarding their design and implementation. In addition, the primary normative codes do not address this subject directly, which might be related to a scarcity of papers indicating methods of design that would align the two technics, composite beams and external prestressing. In this context, this paper proposes methods to analyze the sizing of prestressed composite beams submitted to pre-tension and post-tension with a straight or polynomial layout cable. This inquiry inspected a hundred and twenty models of prestressed composite beams according to its prestressing technology and the eccentricity and value of the prestressing force. The evaluation also included the ratio between span and height of the steel profile, thickness and typology of the concrete slab, and layout of the prestressing cables. As for the results, it was observed that the eccentricity of the prestressing force doesn't significantly influence the bending resistance. In prestressed composite beams subjected to a sagging moment, the ratio L/d can reach 35 and 30 for steel-concrete composite slabs and solid concrete slabs, respectively. Considering the negative bending moment resistance, the value of the L/d ratio must be less than or equal to 25, regardless of the type of slab. When it comes to the value of the prestressing force, a variation greater than 10% causes a 2.6% increase in the positive bending moment resistance and a 4% decrease in the negative bending moment resistance. The pre-tensioned composite beams showed a superior response to flexural-compression and excessive compression limit states than the post-tensioned ones.

This paper develops an optimized torsional design method of asymmetric wall structures considering deformation capacities of walls. Contrary to the current torsional provisions, a deformation based torsional design is based on the assumption that stiffness and strength are dependent. Current torsional provisions specify two design eccentricity of stiffness to calculate the design forces of members. But such a methodology leads to an excessive over-strength of some members and an optimal torsional behavior is not ensured. Deformation-based torsional design uses displacement and rotation angle as design parameters and calculates base shear for inelastic torsional response directly. Because optimal torsional behavior can be defined based on the deformation of members, deformation based torsional design procedure can be applied to the optimal and performance-based torsional design. To consider the effect of accidental eccentricity, an over-strength factor is defined. The over-strength factor is determined from performance level, torsional resistance and arrangement of walls.

The test results for water repellency of paper and paperboard according to KS M 7057 can readily be influenced by an operator's bias. In order to discard such bias, the automatic analysis program of water repellency was developed based on different shape features of a liquid trace formed on a specimen. That is, the shape of a liquid track flowing down on the specimen with an angle of $45^{\circ}$ was evaluated according to width variation between head and tail of the trace($S_{Hr}$), uniformity of a liquid flow($S_{d}$), length of long traces($L_{SHr}$), eccentricity of liquid traces($E_{i}$), and then was recognized as a specific degree of water repellency. Finally, the automatic analysis system of water repellency based upon KS M 7057 made it possible to readily measure water resistance of paper and paperboards classified into R0 to R10.
Experiments were performed for the real sized 12 reinforced concrete columns of 350${\times}$350${\times}$3350 mm with normal concrete in order to observe the fire-damaged behavior of these columns. Columns were heated according to the ISO heating curve. Main experimental parameters were: magnitude of axial load, heating time, cover thickness, and eccentricity. Effects of these parameters on the axial expansion and contraction, rotation, buckling, ISO fire resistance, and structural stability were experimentally quantified. It has been observed that the contraction rate of axial deformation was affected mostly by the duration of heating time and buckling of reinforcement or member by the magnitude of axial load, duration of heating time, cover thickness and eccentricity in order. Based on the experimental observations, ISO fire resistance criteria were qualiatively criticized.
This study, to evaluate the technology of the fire resistance design of Reinforced Concrete columns based on fire resistance performance design, was suppose to use as basic data for performance design through a measure of temperature and deformation using heat transfer analysis and Heat-load test of the Reinforced Concrete columns as parameter is the axial load ratio. In accordance with axial load without eccentricity, the load ratio of 0.30, 0.35, 0.40 and 0.47 were imposed on columns. As a result of this study, 0.40 or more of axial load ratio can be ensured that the fire resistance performance was considered satisfactory.
This paper presents a plan and guidelines that were drawn for Korean based research carried out on the fire-resistance of CFT columns. This research was carried out by reviewing the Korean regulations related to the fire-resistance of CFT columns and examining studies which had been made in Korea as well as overseas. The first phase of the study plan was to compare the fire-resistance of square CFT columns without fire protection (obtained through fire-resistance tests and numerical analyses) with estimated values (obtained through fire-resistance design formulas proposed in Korea and overseas). This comparison provided conclusions as outlined below. Fire-resistance tests conducted in this study proved that, when the actual design load is taken into consideration, square CFT columns without fire protection are able to resist a fire for more than one hour. A comparison was made of test and analysis results with the fire-resistance time based on the AIJ code, the AISC design formula and the estimation formula suggested for Korea. The results of this comparison showed that the test and analysis results for specimens SAH1, SAH2-1, SAH2-2 and SAH3 were almost identical with the AIJ code, the AISC design formula and estimation formula. For specimens SAH4 and SAH5, the estimation formula was more conservative than the AIJ code and the AISC design formula. It was necessary to identify the factors that have an influence on the fire-resistance of CFT columns without fire protection and to draw fire-resistance design formulas for these columns. To achieve this, it is proposed that numerical analyses and tests be conducted in order to evaluate the fire-resistance of circular CFT columns, the influence of eccentricity existing as an additional factor and the influence of the slenderness ratio of the columns. It is also suggested that the overall behavior of CFT structures without fire protection within a fire be evaluated through analysis simulation.
As a new type of concrete material, basic magnesium sulfate cement concrete (BMSC) has the advantages, such as early strength, high strength, good toughness and crack resistance. However, it is unclear about the degradation of the mechanical properties of BMSC columns, which is exposed to the natural environment for several years. In order to apply this new concrete to practical engineering, six large-eccentricity compressive columns of BMSC were studied. The mechanical properties such as the crack propagation, failure morphology, lateral displacement and bearing capacity of BMSC column were studied. The results show that the degradation rate of ultimate load of BMSC column is from 6% to 7%. The degradation rate of the stiffness of the column is from 6% to 13%. With the increase of compressive strength of BMSC, the axial displacement and lateral displacement are gradually reduced. The calculation model of bearing capacity of the BMSC column under the large eccentric compression is proposed. This paper provides a reference for the application of BMSC columns in the civil engineering.

In this paper, a twisted shape structure with an elevation form favorable to the resistance of vibration caused by wind loads is selected from among the forms of high-rise buildings. The analytical model is a square, triangular, and hexagonal plane with a plane rotation angle of one degree from 0 to 3 degrees per each story. As a result of the analysis, as the twist angle increased, story drift ratio is increased. Responses with different eccentricity rates were shown by analytical models. Therefore planar shapes designed symmetrically to the horizontal axis of X and Y are considered advantageous for eccentricity and torsion deformation. In the case of the bending moment of the column, the response was amplified in the column supporting the base floor, the roof floor, the floor in which the cross-section of the vertical member changes, and the floor having the same number of nodes as the base floor. Finally, the axial force response of the column is determined to be absolutely affected by the gravity load compared to the lateral load.
Hollow reinforced concrete columns confined with GFRP tubes (GRCH) are composite members composed of the outer GFRP tube, the PVC or other plastic tube as the inner tube, and the reinforced concrete between two tubes. Because of their high ductility, light weight, corrosion resistance and convenient construction, many researchers pay attention to the composite members. However, there are few studies on GRCH members under eccentric compression compared with those under axial compression. Eight hollow columns were tested under eccentric compression, including one axial compression column and seven eccentric compression columns. The failure modes and force mechanisms of GRCH members were analyzed, considering the varying in hollow ratio, reinforcement ratio and eccentricity. The test results showed that configuring steel bars can greatly increase the bearing capacity and ductility of the members. Each component (GFRP tube, concrete, steel bar) had good deformation coordination and the strength of each material could be fully utilized. But for specimens with larger eccentricity ratio (er=0.4) and larger hollow ratio (χ=0.55), the restraining effect of GFRP tube on concrete was significantly decreased.
