This study was conducted to investigate the effects of reaction pH conditions and hardener types on the reactivity, chemical structure and adhesion performance of UF resins. Three different reaction pH conditions, such as traditional alkaline-acid (7.5 → 4.5), weak acid (4.5), and strong acid (1.0), were used to synthesize UF resins which were cured by adding three different hardeners (ammonium chloride, ammonium citrate, and zinc nitrate) to measure adhesion strength. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR) spectroscopies were employed to study chemical structure of the resin prepared under three different reaction pH conditions. Adhesion strength of the resins cured with three different hardeners was determined with lap shear specimens in tension. The gel time of UF resins decreased with an increasing in the amount of both ammonium chloride and ammonium citrate added in the resins. However, the gel time increased for zinc nitrate. Both FT-IR and 13C-NMR spectroscopies showed that the strong reaction pH condition produce uronic structures in UF resin, while both alkaline-acid and weak acid conditions produce quite similar chemical species in the resins. The maximum adhesion strength was occurred with the resin prepared under strong acid pH condition. However, this study indicated that the weak acid reaction condition provide a balance between increasing resin reactivity and improving adhesion strength of UF resin. The measurement of formaldehyde emission from the panels bonded with the UF resins prepared is planned for future work.
Poly(hydroxamic acid) resin beads were prepared and complexed with various metal ions. We used IR spectroscopy to investigate the structure of metal complex. It proved that the products formed by introduction of metal ions gave stable and colored complex. It was found that the resin bead as synthesized would be a good column packing material for continuous extraction. Energy dispersive spectroscopy was use to study the distribution of metal ions in the resin matrix. It could be tentatively concluded that adsorption and diffusion of metal ions in the chelating resins mainly depended on the loading of the resin matrix which indicated interacting sites with metal ions.

3D printing has the advantage of being able to process various types of parts by layering materials. In addition to these advantages, 3D printing technology allows models to be processed quickly without any special work that can be used in different fields to produce workpieces for various purposes and shapes. This paper deals to not only increase the utilization of 3D printing technology, but also to revitalize 3D printing technology in applications that require similar cryogenic environments. The goal of this study is to identify the mechanical properties of polylactic acid and photopolymer resin processed by Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and Digital Light Processing (DLP) respectively. The entire process is meticulously examined, starting from getting the thermal contraction using an extensometer. A uniaxial tensile test is employed, which enables to obtain the mechanical properties of the samples at both room temperature (RT) and cryogenic temperature of 77 K. As the results, photopolymer resin exhibited higher tensile properties than polylactic acid at RT. However, at cryogenic temperatures (77 K), the photopolymer resin became brittle and failure occurred due to thermal contraction, while polylactic acid demonstrated superior tensile properties. Therefore, polylactic acid is more suitable for lower temperatures.
The anionic exchange resins with the Dowex-1 and Amberlite CG-400 form were transformed into resin of sulfate and acetate acid form, respectively. The uranyl complex ions with SO$_{4}$$^{2-}$ and CH$_{3}$COO$^{-}$ were adsorbed on the anion exchange resion mentioned above, and these complex ions were eluted as mixture eluents of 0.7M HNO$_{3}$ - 0.5M NH$_{4}$NO$_{3}$ by anion exchange chromatography. The optimum adsorption conditions of uranyl anion complex ions adsorbed on the upper of the resin colmun were 1.5-2.0 ml/min of flow rates at pH 2.0 and adsorptive power of uranyl complex ion of sulfuric acid type were nearly consistent with the Caussion normal distribution curve, whereas the elution state of UO$_{2}$(Ac)$_{2}$$^{4-}$ with acetic acid type was departed. The weighing form obtained from resin of sulfuric acid and aceric acid type was U$_{3}$O$_{8}$ whose recovery was 91.7%. The possibility of recovering uranium from the monazite sulfate solution using a strong base anion resin, Amberlite CG-400(sulfate form), was successfully recovered more than 90%.
As a part of abating the formaldehyde emission of amino resin-bonded wood-based composite panels, this study was conducted to investigate hydrolytic stability of urea-melamine-formaldehyde (UMF) resin depending on various hydrolysis conditions and hardener types. Commercial UMF resin was cured and ground into a powdered form, and then hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid. After the acid hydrolysis, the concentration of liberated formaldehyde in the hydrolyzed solution and mass loss of the cured UMF resins were determined to compare their hydrolytic stability. The hydrolysis of cured UMF resin increased with an increase in the acid concentration, time, and temperature and with a decrease in the smaller particle size. An optimum hydrolysis condition for the cured UMF resins was determined as $50^{\circ}C$, 90 minutes, 1.0 M hydrochloric acid and $250{\mu}m$ particle size. Hydrolysis of the UMF resin cured with different hardener types showed different degrees of the hydrolytic stability of cured UMF resins with a descending order of aluminum sulfate, ammonium chloride, and ammonium sulfate. The hydrolytic stability also decreased as the addition level of ammonium chloride increased. These results indicated that hardener types and level also had an impact on the hydrolytic stability of cured UMF resins.
The cation exchange resins are synthesized from p-phenolsulfonic acid, formalin, and sodium hydroxide catalyser, and the ion exchange properties of them are studied with respect to their reactant ratios. Maximum exchange capacity was 2.06 me/G, much smaller than the theoretical value of 3.42 me/G to be expected for that of the structure: Under the present experimental conditions, much -SO3H radical should have been split away.
Pyrazolone group containing resin was tested as an acyl carrier in solid phase peptide synthesis. Several kinds of dipeptide derivatives were prepared by aminolysis reactions of Boc-amino acid-pyrazolone resin active ester with various carboxyl protected amino acid derivatives. It was found that the rates of aminolysis reactions were largely dependent on the bulkiness of the amino acid side chains, the carboxyl protecting groups, and the swelling property of the resin. All the dipeptide derivatives were obtained in high yield in 20-30 minutes, and the pyrazolone resin could be reused repeatedly in peptide synthesis without any change of its reactivity.
High performance amino acid analyzing method has been developed for the routine analysis of taurine in preparations. Ion-exchange resin #2619 Hitachi Custom Ion-Exchange Resin, $2.6(I.D.){\times}150$(length)mm was used as column, buffer I, pH 3.3 as mobile phase. The retention time of taurine was 7 minutes. Calibration curve by peak height for standard taurine was linear from 2.5ppm to 25ppm. The reproducibility showed relative standard deviation $\pm$1.9% when analyzed 10 times for standard solution. The samples could be continuously analyzed without regenerating the resin between samples. Five samples were applied to column every 12 min. and then the resin was regenerated for 30 min. during one analyzing cycle time, 90 min. The automatic amino acid analyzer has made it possible to assay multiple samples in a relatively short period of time using the analytical magnetic program card. The high sensitivity and specificity of the analytical column of the automatic amino acid analyzer permits the routine analysis of taurine in preparations.
