  • Rails have residual stresses produced during manufacturing processes. The residual stresses play all important role on brittle fracture, fatigue strength and derailment by producing cracks in the web of rail. The web saw-cut test is a technique developed to measure the bulk longitudinal residual stress level. It is a simple mettled to estimate a stress intensity factor, $_{4}$ for a web crack by using the radii of curvature of the upper and lower portions of a cut rail. But according to this method, $_{4}$ varies along the rail length because the curvatures along tile rail length vary In this paper, tile residual stress was estimated by Finite Element Method and tile web saw-cut method. In addition tile variation of the residual stress with time was investigated.

  • It is of great importance to assess the residual displacement demand in the performance-based seismic design. In this paper, a hybrid deep learning model for predicting the residual displacement spectra under near-fault (NF) ground motions is proposed by combining the long short-term memory network (LSTM) and back-propagation (BP) network. The model is featured by its capacity of predicting the residual displacement spectrum under a given NF ground motion while considering the effects of structural parameters. To construct this model, 315 natural and artificial NF ground motions were employed to compute the residual displacement spectra through elastoplastic time history analysis considering different structural parameters. Based on the resulted dataset with a total of 9,450 samples, the proposed model was finally trained and tested. The results show that the proposed model has a satisfactory accuracy as well as a high efficiency in predicting residual displacement spectra under given NF ground motions while considering the impacts of structural parameters.

  • This paper addresses the residual vibration problem of robots due to joint flexibility excited by fast accelerations, which has not been easily solved with conventional closed loop controllers. In this paper, an open loop input shaping technique, proposed by singer, has been applied to a 3 DOF robot with joint flexibility. In conjunction to the technique, a closed loop controller based on time-delay controller was also used. The results of simulations and experiments showed that the technique is quite effective for suppressing the residual vibration.

  • The purpose of this study is to test a multiple change point in the regression model with the passage of time, using the estimated residual variance figure suggested by Gasser, Sroka and Jennen - Steinmez (GSJS). As a result of the simulation, it is showed that there is a jump change of the estimated residual variance figure at that time of change point. The way to analyse a intuitive multiple change point through graphics is more effective and accurate than any other existing ways.

  • This paper describes the properties of between the residual voltage for ${\gamma}$-irradiated in electric power cable using in nuclear power generating station. As these properties related with ${\gamma}$-irradiation dose, it is suggested that these properties can be utilized as a index of irradiation degradation. From theory and experiment We found the residual voltage is not influenced by cable length. We found that residual voltage of basic composite and practical composite have not a difference an occasion be the same cable length. As the ratio of degradation increases, the residual voltage in the initial time range increases and the peak moves to the shorter time. Therefore, We can know the degree of radiation degradation from the position of the peak.

As these properties related with $^{60}$ C$_{0}$ -${\gamma}$ -irradiatiation dose, it is suggested that these properties can be utilized as a index of irradiation degradation. As the ratio of degradation increases, the residual voltage in the initial time range increases and the peak moves to the shorter time. • The wafer positioning robot in the semiconductor industry is required to operate at high speed for the improvement of productivity. The residual vibration caused by the high speed of the wafer positioning robot, however, makes the life of the robot shorter and the cycle time longer. In this study, the input shaping and the path of the system are designed for the reduction of the residual vibration and the improvement of the cycle time. The followings are the process for the reduction and the improvement; 1) System modeling of the wafer positioning robot, 2) Verification of dynamic characteristics of the wafer positioning robot, 3) Input shaping plan using impulse response reiteration, 4) Simulation test using SIMULINK program, 5) Analysis of result.

  • Background: Residual stress always exists on any kind of welded area. This residual stress can cause the welded material to crack or fracture. For many years, the hole-drilling method has been widely used for measuring residual stress. However, this method is destructive. Nowadays, electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) can be used to measure residual stress with or without the hole-drilling method. ESPI is an optical nondestructive testing methods that use the speckle effect. Mechanical properties can be measured by calculation of the phase difference by the variation of temperature, pressure, or loading force. Methods: In this paper, the residual stress on the butt-welded area is measured by using ESPI with a suggested numerical calculation. Two types of specimens are prepared. Type I is made of pure base metal part and type II has a welded part at the center. These specimens are tensile tested with a material test system. At the same time, the ESPI system was applied to this test. Results: From the results of ESPI, the elastic modulus and the residual stress around the welded area can be calculated and estimated. Conclusion: With this result, it is confirmed that the residual stress on the welded area can be measured with high precision by ESPI.

  • The paper represents the effects of the drive-in process parameters on the residual stress profile of the p+ silicon film. For the quantitative determination of the residual stress profiles, the test samples are doped via the fixed boron diffusion process and four types of the thermal oxidation processes and consecutively etched by the improved process. The residual stress measurement structures with the different thickness are simultaneously fabricated on the same silicon wafer. Since the residual stress profile is not uniform along the direction normal to the surface, the residual stress is assumed to be a polynomial function of the depth. All of the coefficients of the polynomial are determined from the deflections of cantilevers and the displacement of a rotating beam structure. As the drive-in temperature or the drive-in time increases, the boron concentration decreases and the magnitude of the average residual tensile stress decreases. Also, near the surface of the p+ film the residual tensile stress is transformed into the residual compressive stress and its magnitude increases.

  • PET bottle is manufactured by blow molding the preform, which is molded by injection molding. The neck part of the preform of PET bottle for juice or grain-based beverage is crystallized before blowing to improve heat resistance at the entrance of the bottle. However, residual stress, developed during injection molding of preform, prevents the crystallization. In order to release the residual stress in the preform, the preform is annealed after the injection molding. If the residual stress is reduced by optimizing the injection molding conditions of preform the annealing time would be shortened. In this study, the optimum conditions for minimizing the residual stress and increasing dimensional accuracy of the injection molded preform are suggested through CAE analysis. In order to optimize the molding conditions, minimizing residual stress and shrinkage, computer simulations have been carried out with help of design of experiment scheduling. Injection temperature, initial packing pressure and filling time were selected for control parameters. Residual stress was affected by injection temperature and filling time. Shrinkage was affected by injection temperature. It was found that maximum residual stress, distribution of residual stress and shrinkage were decreased by 22%, 40% and 25%, respectively at an optimum molding condition compared with the results of previous molding condition.
