Injection molding is one of the most common operations in polymer processing. Good quality products are usually obtained and major post-processing treatment is not required. However, residual stresses which exist in plastic parts affect the final shape and mechanical properties after ejection. Residual stresses are caused by polymer melt flow, pressure distribution, non-uniform temperature field, and density distribution. Residual stresses are predicted in this study by numerical methods using commercially available softwares, $Hypermesh^{TM},\;Moldflow^{TM}\;and\;ABAQUS^{TM}$. Cavity filling, packing, and cooling stages are simulated to predict residual stress field right after ejection by assuming an isotropic elastic solid. Thermo-viscoelastic stress analysis is carried out to predict deformation and residual stress distribution after annealing of the part. Residual stresses are measured by the hole drilling method because the automotive part selected in this study has a complex shape. Residual stress distribution predicted by the thermal stress analysis is compared with the measurement results obtained by the hole drilling method. The molded specimen has residual stress distribution in tension, compression, and tension from the surface to the center of the part. Viscoelastic deformation of the part is predicted during annealing and the deformed geometry is compared with that measured by a three dimensional scanner. The viscoelastic stress analysis with a thermal cycle will enable us to predict long term behavior of the injection molded polymeric parts.

The paper presents a basic investigation for the development of cleaning technology employing an annular nozzle ejector for application to cleaning water supply and air bubble generation. The quantitative flow characteristics of the primary and suction flows, the qualitative visualization behavior of the mixed jet, and the percentage concentration of pesticide residual at different values of the ejector screw pitch were investigated. It was seen that the primary flow rate increased, while the mass ratio decreased with increase in screw pitch. Further, the mixed jet behaved like a buoyancy jet or horizontal bubbly jet, and the residual concentration of pesticide first decreased and then increased with increase in screw pitch.
This study extended the Lee et al.'s (2015a) solution which improved the existing analytical solution for prediction of the residual pore water pressure into progressive wave and flow coexisting field. At this time, the variation of incident wave period and wave length should be incorporated to Lee et al.'s (2015a) analytical solution, which does not consider flow. For the case of infinite thickness, the new analytical solution using Fourier series was compared to the analytical solution using Laplace transformation proposed by Jeng and Seymour (2007). It was verified that the new solution was identical to the Jeng and Seymour's solution. After verification of the new analytical solution, the residual pore water pressure head was examined closely under various given values of flow velocity's magnitude, direction, incident wave's period and seabed thickness. In each proposed analytical solution, asymptotic approach to shallow depth with the changes in the soil thickness within finite soil thickness was found possible, but not to infinite depth. It is also identified that there exists a discrepancy case between the results obtained from the finite and the infinite seabed thicknesses even on the same soil depth.

Since terrestrial input plays a major role in coastal primary production, an understanding of land-ocean coupling (LOC) is key to understand coastal ecological changes. In this study, the LOC has been classified into three stages (i.e., the baseflow, plume event and residual flow). In order to characterize its pattern in Nakdong River estuary, multi-platform data were obtained from remote sensing (geostationary ocean color image (GOCI)), in-situ measurement (marine environment information system (MEIS)), on-site measurement (discharge data and meteorological data). The MEIS data were grouped into three stages of LOC using principal component analysis (PCA), and the LOC (2013 ~ 2018) was examined at each stage using multi-platform data. In the Nakdong River estuary, the maximum value of chlorophyll-a (chl-a) was unexpectedly appeared during the plume event. It is assumed that there was no significant increase in turbidity, expected during the typical plume event, together with the weak flushing effect, caused the enhanced phytoplankton growth. Compared with other estuaries, LOC is common in estuaries affected by freshwater inflow, but LOC has different pattern depending on the size of the plume. While estuaries that form small plumes of about 10 km (low freshwater discharge and weak flushing effect) observed high chl-a in the plume event because the phytoplankton can response to the increased nutrient more rapidly. estuaries that form large plumes of more than 100 km est (high freshwater discharge and strong flushing effect) follow the typical LOC pattern conceptualized in this study (high chl-a in the residual flow).
Turbulent flows with wavy wall are simulated using Residual-based Variational Multiscale Method (RB-VMS) which is proposed by Bazilves et al(2007) as new Large Eddy Simulation methodology. Incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are integrated using Isogeometric analysis which adopt the basis function as NURBS. The Reynolds number is 6760 based on the bulk velocity and averaged channel height. And the amplitude (${\alpha}/{\lambda}$) of wavy wall is 0.05. The computational domain is $2{\lambda}{\times}1.05{\lambda}{\times}{\lambda}$ in the streamwise, wall normal and spanwise direction. Mean quantities and turbulent statistics near wavy wall are compared with DNS results of Cherukat et al.(1998). The predicted results show good agreement with reference data.
In the present study, a least square weighted residual method and Taylor-Galerkin method were formulated and tested for the discretization of the two hyperbolic type equations of level set method; advection and reinitialization equations. The two approaches were compared by solving a time reversed vortex flow and three-dimensional broken dam flow by employing a four-step splitting finite element method for the solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. From the numerical experiments, it was shown that the least square method is more accurate and conservative than Taylor-Galerkin method and both methods are approximately first order accurate when both advection and reinitialization phase are involved in the evolution of free surface.
The three-dimensional Euler equations are solved numerically for the analysis of contraction flows in wind or water tunnels. A second-order finite difference method is used for the spatial discretization on the nonstaggered grid system and the 4-stage Runge-Kutta scheme for the numerical integration in time. In order to speed up the convergence, the local time stepping and the implicit residual-averaging schemes are introduced. The pressure field is obtained by solving the pressure-Poisson equation with the Neumann boundary condition. For the evaluation of the present Euler solver, numerical computations are carried out for three contraction geometries, one of which was adopted in the Large Cavitation Channel for the U.S. Navy. The comparison of the computational results with the available experimental data shows good agreement.

Titanium nitride (TiN) coatings were produced on AISI 420 stainless steel by DC magnetron sputtering of a Ti target changing the processing variables, such as the flow rate of $N_2/Ar$, substrate temperature and the existence of Ti interlayer between TiN coatings and substrates. The hardness and residual stress in the films were investigated using nanoindentation and a laser scanning device, respectively. The stoichiometry and surface morphology were investigated using X-Ray Diffraction and SEM. The corrosion property of the films was also studied using a polarization method in NaCl (0.9%) solution. Mechanical properties including hardness and residual stress were related to the ratio of $N_2/Ar$ flow rate. The corrosion resistance also was related to the processing variables.

The satellite payloaded on the 2nd stage of KSLV-I is planned to perform CCAM(Contamination and Collision Avoidance Maneuver) not to collide with KM(Kick Motor). At the moment, the satellite should pass through low density environment not to be contaminated by KM plume due to residual thrust. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the flow field of KM plume by residual thrust. In this paper, DSMC (Direct Simulation Monte-Carlo) method, which is widely accepted to simulate in rarefied regime, is used to compute the density field of KM plume by residual thrust and the result of DSMC simulation was compared with that of FLUENT to validate it.
Tidal currents and tidal residual currents in Chinhae Bay are investigated by the field observations and hydraulic experiments during the spring tide and neap tide. The horizontal and vertical scales of the model are l/2,000 and 1/159, respectively. The hydraulic model results roughly coincide with the field data. Maximum tidal currents during the spring tide and neap tide in the central channel of Chinhae Bay are strong as about 90 and 30cm/s respectively, and strong tidal residual currents take place. Maximum tidal currents during the spring tide and neap tide in the western and northern part of the bay are weak as below 30 and 10cm/s respectively, and also tidal residual currents are weak. Tidal residual currents rotating clockwise occur in the central part of the bay. Northward tidal residual currents in the northern part of Kajo-do are predominant, whereas southward ones in the southern part of Kajo-do are remarkable. The surface currents in the bay depend strongly on the wind and river flow, and it seems to be remarkable during the neap tide.
