This research aims at analyzing the changes in residential environment after a residential environment improvement project focusing on the analysis into the physical environment of a residential environment improvement project, and examining in what direction the changes by residents' own efforts occurred after public support, such as infrastructure. The present residence development method has become different from the previous pulling down method and is focused on regeneration. By examining in what direction the target residence is being changed because of the development by residents' own efforts after the government's public investment at this time, this study also aims at investigating the direction to develop a guideline for residential improvement for later improvement of deteriorated residence. As for the contents of the analysis, changes in public support, such as infrastructure, and other areas after the residential environment improvement project were compared and analyzed from the land use, street system, and condition of buildings before the residential environment improvement project through field survey, geographic information system(GIS), registered land and building data and so on. The biggest change since the support from the government was that at the beginning of the project, the application of special provision of building laws and different financial supports led to lots of newly built buildings. Since then, their number has decreased rapidly, and in most cases, there have been some changes in part, such as changes in the use of land or repair of disposal tanks. Most newly built buildings were multi-household houses, and it has caused road capacity and parking lot capacity, etc., to be exceeded, which has worsened the pleasantness of the living environment. In addition, other problems have also appeared, for example, the lack of residence supporting facilities yet with a higher level of residential density. Regarding the changes in the residential environment after the residential environment improvement project, maintenance of houses were conducted in some degree as diverse alleviation policies to improve poor residence, yet the absence of the guideline for the direction of developing the whole district has made the residence environment more dense and deteriorated. To solve these problems, in advance to a residential improvement project, specific management methods based on short-, mid- and long-term plans for the direction of development by residents' own efforts and a sustainable guideline seem to be necessary.
Aging is accompanied with numerous transitions in life, and residential environment becomes a pivotal part of the elderly's lives. Physically supportive housing linked with services emerges in midst of the reality that retrofitting housing with special features has been seriously underfunded. The purpose of this study was to examine the residential satisfaction of the elderly in two types of independent living arrangements specially designed for the elderly. The indices of residential supportiveness were developed, and the questionnaire survey was adopted for data collection. Two hundred eighty residents living in two different kinds of senior housing participated in the survey, and all the collected responses were used for data analysis. The finding showed that almost all of the elderly positively assessed their senior living. That is, the statistical analysis illustrated that satisfaction indices of senior living significantly and positively contributed the satisfaction with overall residential environment. Satisfaction with physical environment was the only strong predictor in explaining current residential satisfaction of the elderly in senior rental housing, and accounted for a small proportion of the variance in the dependent variable. Since affordability was the biggest concern among residents in senior housing, it was of significance that long-term housing affordability was ensured and reduction in service cost by utilizing economies of scale was pursued.

This study analyzed the site around the linear parks with four points of view, the organization of urban Fabric, architecture, the economic value of the site and the behavior of residents. This research adopted several research methodologies like aerial photograph analysis, road-view analysis, paper research, and field study, observation, and expert interview to approach as both quantitative and qualitative analysis. With that variation characteristic, the researcher determines the influence of linear park through the residential area around them. As the result, linear park gives positive effects of running sustainable residential area around them and acting as the pivot for the residential area. Also for the future, designers must consider this interactive relation between the linear park and residential area with the wide point of view.
This study is focused on the residential spaces that the elderly wish to renovate and their willingness to improve residential environment as they grow old. The analysis shows, first, the most inconvenient places as they grow old are the stairs, following by the toilet and the bath. Second, the place that the elderly most wish to renovate is the floor, upgrading floors with non-slippery materials. And they wish to remove the height differences on the floor to protect them from tripping over, upgrade the floor plan for their convenience and renovate the storage and working spaces at the kitchen and dining areas. The more the government supports the costs of the residential renovation service, the more the elderly are willing to use the renovation service. The factors influencing their willingness to residential renovation are health, residential environment, experience to accidents and their allowances. The elderly who experienced accidents inside their residence are more willing to renovate their house. Even though the elderly wish to renovate their houses, it's not carried out due to the financial difficulties and the lack of information. Thus, the government should share the useful information about residential renovation for the safety of the elderly and find a way to raise money to cover the costs of the renovation.

The residential apartments have become a choice of a popular housing space since the first establishment of Mapo apartment in 1962. Therefore, the residential market experienced a bloom where residential apartments were sold as they were built simultaneously. However, this phenomenon was turned around and unsold lots appeared after the period of IMF and as the construction companies put out more various apartments by differing the characters and the strategies in building apartments. As a result, the leadership of residential market moved from the suppliers to consumers, in consequence, the wants of the consumers became more demanding. The consumer can freely control the number of rooms with a variable wall system or a bigger sized apartment with two entrances to the living room as well as having a bathroom with a master bedroom in a small-sized apartment. Many conceptual trials like this were taken to improve the residential environment and to give a change to the unit plan of the public housing. From these changes, one can observe a general trend that is taking place in current residential housing. Consequently, this study is on the type classification of unit plans in public housing built after 1999 and dwelled from 2001. The objectives of this study are to confirm the characteristics of the unit plans applied in recent public housing and provide basic materials that can be incorporated to residential space plan from now and hereafter.
Community is crucial for human beings not only because they are born with communal self but also because social cooperation is more efficient than competition in many cases. Human beings are defined as Homo communicus living in residential community which is important for the fulfillment of their primary needs. Residential community is an 'intimacy zone' where personal and emotional interactions are made. This study aims at examining the health of residential community in Korea by exploring the level of place attachment and neighborhood trust. Previous studies indicate that place attachment and trust are influenced by three dimensions such as residents' characteristics, house types and regional environment. This study conducted a nationwide questionnaire survey and it shows that place attachment moulds neighborhood trust. The results of path analysis demonstrates that place attachment and trust appear high in detached house areas. Age of residents also gives positive influence on the level of place attachment and neighbourhood trust. This result gives significant policy implications for the development of residential community in Korea. Residential community as an intimacy zone has been eroded and desperately needs to be revitalized. For this, more concern should be given to the issue of desirable size of residential community and the types of houses. Detached house area must be supported by governmental policies.
