  • The urban-rural complex area in Korea has a distinctive spatial structure where the urban area and rural area coexist. Therefore, in order to cope with the over-depopulation in the rural region of the urban-rural complex area, it is necessary to explore various policies that can prevent the existing residents from leaving, and in fact support them to remain where they currently reside. In this context, this current study analyzed the factors affecting the existing residents' continuous intention to remain by employing the '2017 Chuncheon City Social Survey' as a countermeasure for the over-depopulation of the rural region in the urban-rural complex area. Especially, since a regional identity is determined endogenously, this study used a simultaneous bivariate ordered probit model with giving consideration to the endogenous relationship between a regional identity and a regional residents' intentions. As a result, it was found on analysis that the regional residential intention was higher as the regional identity was stronger. Furthermore, the regional identity was stronger as a householders' age and residence period were longer, and also as the residents were satisfied with their work leisure and life residence balance. It was also found that the residents' intention was higher as the residents' satisfaction with the local medical service and their work was increased. Thus, supporting policy is needed that can provide appropriate quality-of-life services in a timely manner, but only after identifying the demand for these services by the rural residents in the urban-rural complex area.

  • This study was performed to compare the dietary behaviors of university students in Incheon area by residence types. The population was divided into 4 groups by residence types: family home in Incheon, family home in another area except Incheon, boarding house and, university dormitory. The general subject, health behavior, and dietary behavior of each group were investigated using a one-week questionnaire and the results were as follows. The average height, weight, and BMI were 175.67 cm, 69.8 kg, and 22.61, respectively, for males and 161.84 cm, 51.51 kg, and 19.66, respectively, for females. The most common residence type of the students was the family home in Incheon. Smoking rate of the students living in a boarding house was higher than the other groups. The rate of exercising and consumption of supplements were lower than the other groups. Most of the students frequently skipped breakfast. Boarding and dormitory students missed breakfast more than any of the other groups. The main reason for skipping meals was lack of time. The favorite snack type was confectionery and ice cream. Most of the students had snacks between lunch and dinner or after dinner. The frequency of consuming beans, fruits and, dairy products among 13 food items for boarding and dormitory students were lower than the other groups. The results of this study suggest that nutritional education for university students is needed to improve their dietary behavior and to maintain their health.

  • This study is aimed to suggesting a hypothesis about the process of improvement of houses of the Korean-Chinese, comparing how Han Chinese and Korean-Chinese houses changed in Yanbian Area of China. This draws the conclusion by analyzing the field survey about residence of the Han Chinese and the Korean-Chinese in Yanbian Area of China. First of all, the characteristic of residence style change and the plan of rural houses of the Han Chinese are in the following. The plan of houses has been changed from allocating rooms from side to side with the kitchen as the center to linking each functional spaces through the aisle. And the main bedroom of houses becomes the central space for family members instead of Kang (partial Ondol) by expanding the floor heating system under the whole floor in houses. Next, the feature of residence style changes of the Han Chinese and the Korean-Chinese is as follows. In 1970s barns disappeared from houses of the Korean Chinese, but houses of the Han Chinese were not much changed. From 1980s to 1990s, spaces linking each rooms with aisles had appeared for comfortableness of residence and respecting each individual's privacy. On the other hand, The houses of the Korean-Chinese make a whole big space by getting rid of walls between the rooms. And after 2 thousand years later, Han Chinese houses have a bedroom with floor heating system. Both houses of the Korean-Chinese and the Han Chinese are changed to have a residence style which taking sedentary style and standing style.

  • The residence plan of Korea has been formed with bias for quantitative growth and uniformity failing at obtaining human value. Also, rapid growth brought about severe problems of deteriorated human life and destruction of environment. The solution for these problems is pursued in many directions, but there is short of active plan yet. The residence shall develop into new direction to satisfy the demand by reflecting society and culture as well as residents. This study examines external design with symbolic representation of regional feature as an alternative for uniform residence environment problem. This study will be a basic data upon suggesting the direction for planning high quality residence environment. This study examined the elements which form external space of residence complex, designed plan for external space of residence complex, and examined how to reflect regional feature which is important element of local community and culture on the space plan for residence complex based on the evaluation by local residents centered on Gimcheon-si, Gyeongbuk which just started local specialty by fostering. • The purpose of this study is to grasp the spatial characteristic of the unit plan for a Super-High-Rise-Residence. This study is focused on the open air contact sides for a tower type Super-High-Rise-Residence. A tower type Super-High-Rise-Residence which has open air contacts from 1 to 3.5 sides differed in spatial characteristics of the unit plan for other apartment units. The current study analyzed 188 unit plans for the size of 40 pyong or larger in Seoul and the metropolitan areas which have been built since 1990. Open air contact side was classified as under 2 sides, 2 sides, and over 2 sides. The unit plan which belong to each open air contact side was Investigated according to the location of public area, the relationship between livingroom and master bedroom, and a method of entry to the master bedroom. The results of this study are as follow: According to increase open air contact sides is changed the location of public area in unit plan from an typical arrangement to various arrangement. Also the relationship between livingroom and master bedroom becomes loose and in a method of entry to the master bedroom increase an indirect approach through other room.

  • Residence time is defined as the time taken for a material in a system to leave the system. The residence time characteristics in shellfish aquaculture determine the dispersion of excretion from aquaculture farms, along with the supply of food by seawater exchange. In this study, we estimated the spatial distribution of average residence time in the shellfish farming area using a particle tracking model. As a result, a relatively short average residence time of about 20 days or less was calculated in most areas, but an average residence time of more than 40 days was calculated in the inner areas. Relatively long average residence times were calculated along the west coast compared to the east coast, with the longest average residence time of more than 50 days in the northwestern areas. It can be inferred that the disturbance of the benthic ecosystem caused by shellfish farms is likely to be large because of the relatively weak dispersion of excrement from shellfish farms located on the west coast, especially in the northwest region. This distribution of average residence time is important for understanding the potential effects of seawater exchange on the environmental sustainability of shellfish farms, along with the seawater circulation characteristics of Jaran Bay.

  • This study explores the plausible socio-economic variables that influence joint choice of tenure and dwelling type in Cheonan. For estimating these joint choice models, multinomial logit framework is employed. Following the practice of other studies, we chose the age of householder, education level of householder, occupation of householder, residence duration in Cheonan, experience of capital area residence, plan of capital area move and the monthly income of household as socio-economic variables, and size of house, access of subway area, residence area as house characteristics. According to the estimation result, we can derive som implications. For example, the higher monthly income of household, more member of student, bigger size of house, longer residence duration of Cheonan, the more they prefer owing house apartment to renting it. In addition, as householders are older, size of house is bigger, they prefer owing-non apartment to owing house-apartment.

  • A prototype surface flow constructed wetland was built in the upstream area of reclaimed tidal lands to improve the water quality of Lake Sihwa by treating severely polluted stream water. In this study, a tracer test using rhodamine-WT was performed to investigate the flow characteristics and to quantify the observed hydraulic residence time (HRT) for a high-lying cell in the Banwol wetland of the Sihwa constructed wetland. The tracer test indicated that even if flow was mainly observed in the open water area of the Banwol wetland, water flowed continuously in the vegetative area and there was no dead zone. The calculated HRT (51.3 hrs), calculated by dividing the wetland volume by the wetland inflow, exceeded the observed HRT (38.7 hrs), since the short-circuiting of flux resulting from irregular topography and vegetation was not reflected in the calculated HRT. The exit tracer concentration curves were reproduced well by both the plug flow with dispersion and tanks-in-series models, indicating that the performance of the Banwol wetland can be estimated accurately using these models.
