All research methodologies have a certain research purpose and application range. Therefore, it cannot be conclusively said that some methodologies are superior. Each research methodology has only different research purposes and application ranges. The various theories and methodologies related to the study of Chinese dialect sounds have not been in a confrontational relationship with each other. But the need for analysis of new phenomena has led to the emergence of new methodologies and it has been deepening the depth of the study together, supplementing the theories of the past. The emergence of new theories and methodologies has not only always provided another means for dialect analysis methods, but has also deepened awareness of the changing rules of dialects, the interrelationships between rules and the causes of change. The Chinese dialect is richly embedded in various phenomena that can be seen in human languages. In analyzing the phenomenon of the Chinese dialect, we should first closely observe and judge whether it is the result of internal historical changes in the dialect itself or changes formed by contact or influence with the external dialect, and apply the analytical method accordingly. Sometimes there is a phenomenon formed by a number of complex factors, not one, that requires a comprehensive analysis that combines a variety of theories and methodologies.
This paper is to explore technological forecasting methodologies and their application to military R&D programming. Among a number of forecasting methodologies, eight frequently used methods are explained. They are; Delphi method, analogy, growth curve, trend extrapolation, analytical model, breakthrough, normative method, and combined method. Due to the characteristic situation of a developing country, the application of technological forecasting to the Korean military R&D programming is limited. Therefore, only two forecasting methods such as Delphi and normative method are utilized in the development of a decision model for the military R&D programming. The model consists of a dynamic programming using decision tree model, which optimizes the total cost to equip a certain military item under a given range of risk during a given period. Some pitfalls in forecasting methodologies and of the model are discussed.
This paper surveys the various methodologies for the objective measurement of visual fatigue. Visual fatigue is a psychophysiological symtom caused by the excessive use of eyes and it can be used as an important measure of the effectiveness and the safety of visual displays. The purpose of this paper is to compare the various visual fatigue measurement methodologies in a sense of the suitability for the ergonomic research. The measurement methodologies based on accommodation, convergence, visual evoked potential, eye movement, eye blinking, and flicker fusion were discussed and compared.
Data imputation is a crucial issue in data analysis because quality data are highly correlated with the performance of AI models. Particularly, it is difficult to collect quality time-series data for uncertain situations (for example, electricity blackout, delays for network conditions). Thus, it is necessary to research effective methods of time-series data imputation. Many studies on time-series data imputation can be divided into 5 parts, including statistical based, matrix-based, regression-based, deep learning (RNN and GAN) based methodologies. This study reviews and organizes these methodologies. Recently, deep learning-based imputation methods are developed and show excellent performance. However, it is associated to some computational problems that make it difficult to use in real-time system. Thus, the direction of future work is to develop low computational but high-performance imputation methods for application in the real field.
As various methodologies for business process analysis and design have been conducted in many organizations by their own ways, those methodologies are not compatible each other. In order to reduce the cost of analysis for organizations. some mapping methods between different methodologies need to be developed. UMM(UN/CEFACT Modeling Methodology) that has an object-oriented point of view. can overcome the limits of existing bottom-up approaches and make it reasonable. It also simplifies the business and administrative procedures. IDEF( Integrated Definition Language) with a structural point of view that has been widely used as a system analysis and design method, needs to be mapped to UMM in order to reuse the existing IDEF models. In this study, we propose a guideline that deals with procedures of utilizing IDEF models from which we want to derive the UMM models for developing an electronic commerce system including electronic documents exchange. By comparing IDEF and UMM, we analyze the differences between those two methodologies. Based on these differences. we suggest the basic strategies for mapping method from IDEF to UMM. We also propose a mapping guideline that can make UMM results from the modeling results of IDEF. We can take an advantage of the existing IDEF analysis design results when we adopt UMM methodology for electronic business system. Many analysts who are familiar with the IDEF methodology can develop UMM work-flow by utilizing their existing results and skills.
An evaluation of various radiometric methods to analyze $^{226}Ra$ in water has been employed on a set of 10 standard solutions of different concentrations in the range of $1-10Bq/L^{-1}$. The analysis was carried out using well-established procedures by means of gamma-ray, alpha-particle and liquid scintillation spectrometry. The feasibility of the various methods has been quantified in terms of relative standard error and percentage error. Correlations between the various methods have been presented and discussed. In general, good agreement was found in the results of various methodologies, which assures the accuracy of the methods and allows for the validation of instrumentation and procedures. Of the different methods adopted here, a combined procedure for the determination of $^{226}Ra$ along with $^{228}Ra$ using Quantulus 1220 ultra-low level background liquid scintillation counting gave the most accurate results.
This paper identifies trends in research methodology due to globalization. Context in both research and in practice and forms the key perspective for modern methodology and theory. Ecological perspectives are a necessary condition for quality global research. Human ecology researchers must advance the role of interdisciplinary and inter-functional perspectives and be open to collaborative relationships. These researchers must work in teams across disciplinary and functional boundaries. The paper discusses directions for research within the context of trends at U.S. federal agencies with applications to globalization and family life. Trends include: (a) use of diverse but rigorous methodologies; (b) recognition of the research-practice-research feedback loop;(c) primacy of context and diverse sampling; and (d) connections of research to problem solving. The terms promoted recently such as ″relationships″, ″diversity″ or ″problem-based″ are ingrained in human ecology. Key aspects for research in the next decade will be: (a) seeking diversity in sampling; (b) seeking colleagues with different perspectives; (c) incorporating meta-analysis into our work; (d) seeking meaningful results; (e) utilizing varieties of research methodologies to address our problems; and (0 understanding that practice must continually change as a function of research.
With the increasing demand for unlicensed spectrum, several regulators have been opening up the 6-GHz band for unlicensed use while ensuring compliance with the technical requirement to avoid harmful interference in the existing primary services (PSs). In this paper, we present two methodologies, a channel-based method and a frequency-based method, which are applicable to a frequency coordination system that calculates the permissible transmit power in the channels or frequencies available to a secondary service (SS). In addition, we have demonstrated that the available transmit power of an SS can be maximized by adjusting the power allocation of the assigned resource units under the condition that the channel of the SS is partially overlapped with that of the PS. Based on the analysis results, it is suggested that it would be better to utilize the two methods selectively according to the operating channel conditions of the PS and the SS.
The purpose of this stud)r was to critically review the trends of research methodologies of environmental education. We analyzed Journal of Korean Society for Environmental Education (vol. 1 ∼vol. 14(1)) and The Journal of Environmental Education(vol. 25∼vol. 31) to investigate the trends of methodology in EE research of Korean and other countries and to explore the tasks of it. The findings were as follows, 1) More than half of the character of the papers in Korea were actual condition (54.38%), substitute proposal (32.12%), and the papers in others countries were actual condition (39.35%), substitute proposal (33.55%). 2) The major parts of the method of the papers in Korea were literature review (26.05%), survey research (23.79%), on the other hand the papers in other counties were survey research (42.70%), literature review (25.84%). The results indicated that the research methodologies of environmental education in Korea were needed to be reinforced in the field of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Recently engineering systems problems become quite large and complicated. For those problems, design requirements are fairly complex. It is not easy to design such systems by considering only one discipline. Therefore, we need a design methodology that can consider various disciplines. Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) is an emerging optimization method to include multiple disciplines. So far, about seven MDO methodologies have been proposed for MDO. They are Multidisciplinary Feasible (MDF), Individual Feasible (IDF), All-at-Once (AAO), Concurrent Subspace Optimization (CSSO), Collaborative Optimization (CO), Bi-Level Integrated System Synthesis (BLISS) and Multidisciplinary Optimization Based on Independent Subspaces (MDOIS). In this research, the performances of the methods are evaluated and compared. Practical engineering problems may not be appropriate for fairness. Therefore, mathematical problems are developed for the comparison. Conditions for fair comparison are defined and the mathematical problems are defined based on the conditions. All the methods are coded and the performances of the methods are compared qualitatively as well as quantitatively.
