  • Efficient texture representation is very important in computer vision fields. The performance of texture classification or/and segmentation can be improved based on efficient texture representation. Gabor filter is a representation method that has long history for texture representation based on multi-scale analysis. Gabor filter shows good performance in texture classification and segmentation but requires much processing time. In this paper, we propose new texture representation method that is also based on multi-scale analysis. The proposed representation can provide similar performance in texture classification but can reduce processing time against Gabor filter. Experimental results show good performance of our method.

  • We investigate implementation of the determinantal representation of generalized inverses for complex and rational matrices in the symbolic package MATHEMATICA. We also introduce an implementation which is applicable to sparse matrices.

  • A simple scheme using the single equivalent machine representation, equivalent loss reprsentation and direct hydro-MW representation are applied to economic dispatch for practical applications. A,simple approach to calculation of incremental transmission losses is proposed from the fast decoupled load flow algorithm. This program is presently being tested on KECO system.

  • This paper suggest a methodology for representation of findings which can be called as signs and symptoms. A finding consists of unit signs and unit symptoms, and moreover findings which appear in one individual patient have so many different relationship each other. So, it is nat appropriate to list all of possible findings as medical standard or to fill findings as independent things in paper for medical record. We try to distinguish finding item from finding list, and suggest the methodology by which we can make finding list from finding items. That is, we suggest finding item[Concept], value types, relationship, logical operator, and syntax as a component of representation. And by using urinary symptom, we make the example for representation methodology. Finally, we mention the background knowledge, brief research process of related area.

  • In this paper the intent recognition system which recognizes the human's head movements as a simple non-verbal intent representation is presented. The system recognizes five basic intent representations. i.e., strong/weak affirmation. strong/weak negation, and ambiguity by image processing of nodding or shaking movements of head. The vision system for tracking the head movements is composed of CCD camera, image processing board and personal computer. The modified template matching method which replaces the reference image with the searched target image in the previous step is used for the robust tracking of the head movements. For the improvement of the processing speed, the searching is performed in the pyramid representation of the original image. By inspecting the variance of the head movement trajectories. we can recognizes the two basic intent representations - affirmation and negation. Also, by focusing the speed of the head movements, we can see the possibility which recognizes the strength of the intent representation.

  • Euclidean Voronoi diagram of spheres in 3-dimensional space has not been explored as much as it deserves even though it has significant potential impacts on diverse applications in both science and engineering. In addition, studies on the data structure for its topology have not been reported yet. Presented in this, paper is the topological representation for Euclidean Voronoi diagram of spheres which is a typical non-manifold model. The proposed representation is a variation of radial edge data structure capable of dealing with the topological characteristics of Euclidean Voronoi diagram of spheres distinguished from those of a general non-manifold model and Euclidean Voronoi diagram of points. Various topological queries for the spatial reasoning on the representation are also presented as a sequence of adjacency relationships among topological entities. The time and storage complexities of the proposed representation are analyzed.

  • This paper explains the qualitative shape representation scheme and general shape analysis procedure based on shape feature categories. It takes two different groups of architectural drawings as examples and comparer them so as to confirm that the procedure is capable of comparing one group with another. In order to verify the validity of qualitative shape representation scheme, we used statistical methods as well as symbolic representation and analysis techniques. This paper concludes that two different groups of architectural drawings of similar kind are analyzed to be distinguished and specifically characterized. 11 drawings of Kahn and 13 drawings of Aalto are taken into considerations. Linear regressions are used in characterizing the shape featural relationships.
