After the industrial of steelmaking by-products are processed properly, they can be used in civil engineering, not only as a substitute for natural resources and to reduce costs, but also to provide environmental protection. This study used different amounts (10%, 20%, 30%, 40%,and 50%) of desulphurization slag to replace natural fine aggregates in ready-mixed soil materials, and tested the physical and fresh properties (slump, slump flow, tube flow, initial setting time, and bleeding) and hardened properties (compressive strength, ball drop, ultrasonic pulse velocity) of the materials. The variations between the performances of the materials with different mix proportions were discussed. When desulphurization slag is used in RMSM, the workability can be enhanced obviously significantly. When the replacement of desulphurization slag is 50%, the slump flow is increased by 110mm compared with the control group, and the initial setting time increases as the replacement increases, because of bleeding. When the replacement is 10% and 20%, the compressive strength at various ages is higher than that of the control group. When the replacement is 10%, the compressive strength at 7 days is higher than that of the control group by 60%, and the ultrasonic pulse velocity is proportional to the compressive strength, which increases with age and decrease as the replacement increases. An appropriate replacement can effectively accelerate construction, and allow projects to be finished ahead of schedule; therefore, an appropriate replacement, is applicable for ready-mixed soil materials.

This paper deals with a procedure of changing the current inspection & replacement periods for ROKAF aircraft parts. ROKAF is mostly operating aircraft of foreign makes, and takes maintenance actions according to Technical Orders(TO.) published by foreign aircraft manufacturers. Therefore ROKAF inspects and replaces specific parts at the time noticed from T.O.. These inspection and replacement periods are determined by manufacturers according to the standard operating environment and parts' durability. But the standard operating environment Is different from operator's environment. Because of this difference, the inspection and replacement periods have to be changed according to operators' operation environment. It is resonable that the manufacturer, having design materials and life test data of parts, changes those periods together with materials of operators' operation environment. But we have many difficulties in obtaining the design materials and life test data. Then this paper proposes a procedure of changing the periods of aircraft's parts with life data obtained during operating aircraft. For the reliability analysis, a software of RELEST (Reliability Estimation Version 1.0) is used.

Recently, the construction industry in South Korea, has experienced many difficulties in lack of supply with construction materials. Since waste shells can be possibly used as replacement materials of fine aggregate, the successful application can resolve, to some extent at least, the economic problems and environmental problems. In this research, the basic physical properties of the mortar which was used as fine aggregate substitute (clam, cockle, manila clam, oyster) were evaluated. According to the experimental results, the absorption rate and compressive strength of samples with various shells were equivalent to that of plain mortar. The mortar which replaced 25% of oyster shell with sand showed approximately 30% lower compressive strength and twice as much absorption as plain mortar. It was found that waste shells can be used as replacement materials of fine aggregate, but the oyster shell requires further experimental works in order for its successful application.
Porous basalt aggregate is commonly used in roadbed engineering, but its application in concrete has rarely been studied. This paper studies the application of porous basalt in concrete. Porous basalt aggregate is assessed for its effects on mechanical strength and durability of prepared C50 concrete; because it has a hole structure, porous basalt aggregate is known for its porosity, and porous basalt aggregates can be made full of water through changing the content of saturated basalt; after full-water condition is achieved in porous basalt aggregate mixture of C50 concrete, we discuss its mechanical properties and durability. The effects of C50 concrete prepared with basalt aggregate on the compressive strength, water absorption, and electric flux of concrete specimens of different ages were studied through experiments, and the effects of different replacement rates of saturated porous basalt aggregate on the properties of concrete were also studied. The results show that porous basalt aggregate can be prepared as C50 concrete. For early saturated porous basalt aggregate concrete, its compressive strength decreases with the increase of the replacement rate of saturated aggregate; this occurs up to concrete curing at 28 d, when the replacement rate of saturated basalt aggregate is greater than or equal to 40 %. The compressive strength of concrete increases with the increase of the replacement rate of saturated aggregate. The 28 d electric flux decreases with the increase of the replacement rate of saturated aggregate, indicating that saturated porous basalt aggregate can improve the chloride ion permeability resistance of concrete in later stages.
Precipitated calcium carbonate(PCC) inorganic fillers for plastic offera higher replacement ratio with improved mechanical properties than any other inorganic fillers. Due to its secure economic feasibility, its fields of application areexpanding. For optimized PCC grain size and polymer replacement ratio, it is good to maintain at least $0.035{\mu}m$ grains and keep double the grain size of distance between particles, depending on the molecular weight and volume replacement rate of the polymer. PCC has unique characteristics, ie, with smaller grain size, dispersibility decreases, and if grain size is not homogenous, polymer cracking occurs. The maximum replacement ratio of PCC is approximately 30%, but in the range of 10 - 15% it produces the highest mechanical strength. When mixed with a biodegradable plastic like starch, it also improves initial environmental degradability.
The modern orthopaedics frequently uses the total hip replacement in the artificial hip joint. The wear in this joint requires a re-replacement of hip joints because it is under the severe load and friction conditions. To solve these problems the previous studies have been mainly focussed on the development of new materials. The research of new materials, however, needs much time and effort since it should be experimented for its bio-compatibility, friction, and wear characteristics. To reduce the work, in this study, the finite element analysis is applied to find new combinations of bio-materials in the total hip replacement which has the excellent contact characteristics. A non-linear FEM program MARC with 5-node axisymmetric element was used for analyzing the contact stresses between the hip joints. The computed results show that in case of acetabulum UHMWP has good characteristics, in femoral head, $Al_2O_3$, and in stem, Ti6Al4V.

According to development of medical science and engineering, people has made efforts to solve tile discomfort of body accident as well as the life span. Many cases that reduce pain of a hip joint or limitation of motion using Revision Total Hip Replacement are getting increased. However it has not proved which material is the most appropriate. Scientists are still studying about materials of the artificial joint. In accordance with advance of science, the materials are Betting better. Recently, when Revision Total Hip Replacement is performed, typical materials are Ti-alloys Ceramics. We have studied materials of artificial joints and analyzed which one is better for human's body.

The main objective of this article is to highlight the progress made in the development of new materials that have been gradually used by humans until today. Of course, this progress must be associated with other parameters in order to guarantee sustainable development. For this, today, it has become urgent to reduce the consumption of cement by resorting to its partial or total replacement by other similar materials in order to reduce CO2 emissions in our environment. This should certainly help to develop greener building materials. In this study, it was decided to proceed with the partial or total replacement of Portland cement type CEM II/B-L-42.5N by slate and lime that had not undergone any previous transformation. The results obtained revealed that the mortar whose substitution compared to the replacement of cement (100%) cement and sand (0/4) confers better kinetics than those of the series composed of(100%) cement and fraction rubble (0/1).
