Solid solutions of the (1-x)$BiFeO_3-xSrTiO_3$ ceramic system (x = 0~0.4) are explored here in attempts to obtain multiferroic properties in these systems. The polarization-electric field hysteresis, magnetization-magnetic field curves, and dielectric properties are also characterized. This solid-solution system shows a crystal structural transition from a noncentrosymmetric (R3c) structure to a centrosymmetric (Pm-3m) structure at 0.3 < x < 0.4. The solid solution ceramic shows unsaturated M-H behavior and low remanent magnetization over the composition region of 0.1 ${\leq}$ x ${\leq}$ 0.3. The $0.7BiFeO_3-0.3SrTiO_3$ system shows the largest value of $M_s$ at 0.17 emu/g and the smallest value of $H_c$ at 1.06 kOe. The P-E hysteresis curves were not saturated under an electric field as high as E = 70 kV/cm. This system is considered to have multiferroic characteristics in the composition range of 0.1 ${\leq}$ x ${\leq}$ 0.3.

Ferroelectric 0.05PZN-xPZT(90/10)-(0.95-x)PZT(10/90) (x=0.65, 0.85) specimens were fabricated by the solid-state reaction method, and especially PZT(90/10) and PZT(10/90) powders were derived by the sol-gel method. All specimens showed a uniform ferroelectric grain without the presence of the pyrocholre phase. Average grain size increased with an increased in sintering temperature, the values for the x=0.65 and x=0.85 specimens sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ were 14.4$\mu$m and 9.8$\mu$m, respectively. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the x=0.65 specimen sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ were 1247. 2.06%, respectively. The coercive field and the remanent polarization of x=0.65 and x=0.85 specimens sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ were 8.5kV/cm, 13$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 17.2kV/cm, 28 $\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively. The pyroelectric coefficient of the x=0.65 and x=0.85 specimens sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ were 5.64$\times$10$^{-8}$ C/$\textrm{cm}^2$K and 2.76$\times$10$^{-8}$ C/$\textrm{cm}^2$K, respectively.
Sol-Gel derived ferroelectric Pb(Z $r_{0.52}$$Ti_{0.48}$) $O_{3}$ thin films have been fabricated on Pt/Ti/ $SiO_{2}$/Si substrate. Two kinds of fast annealing methods, F-I (six times of intermediate and final annealing) and F-II(one final annealing after six times of intermediate annealing) were used for preparation of multi-coated PZT thin films. As the annealing temperature was increased, high capacitance could be obtained, for instance, 2700.angs.-thick PZT thin film annealed at 680.deg. C had a capacitance value of approximately 20nF at 1kHz. In addition, it is found that the dielectric constant is a function of the perovskite phase fraction. In case of F-I method, PZT thin film had a remanent polarization(Pr) of 8-15.mu.C/c $m^{2}$ and a coercive field( $E_{c}$) of 35-44kV/cm according to annealing temperature, whereas PZT film fabricated by F-II method had as high as 24-25.mu.C/c $m^{2}$ and 48-59kV/cm, respectively. As a result of measuring Curie temperature, PZT thin film had a range of 460-480.deg. C by F-I method and more or less higher range of 525-530.deg. C by F-II method, which implied that different microstructures could cause the different Curie temperature. Through I-V measurement, leakage current of PZT thin film fabricated by F-I and F-II methods was 64nA/c $m^{2}$ and 2.2.mu.A/c $m^{2}$ in the electric field of 100kV/cm, respectively.y.y.y.

[ $Pb(Zr_{0.2}Ti_{0.8})O_3/SrRuO_3$ ] heteroepitaxial thin films were deposited at various temperatures on single crystal $SrTiO_3$ substrates by pulsed laser deposition and characterized for the microstructural and ferroelectric properties. The $SrTiO_3$ substartes etched by buffered oxide etch $(pH{\thickapprox}5.8)$ solution for 20s followed by the thermal annealing at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1h showed the terrace ledges with a 0.4nm height. The $SrRuO_3$ bottom electrodes with a thickness of 52nm grown on $SrTiO_3$ single crystal also exhibit a terrace ledge similar to that of $SrTiO_3$. The PZT thin films were grown with an epitaxial relationship and showed typical P-E hysteresis loops shown at the epitaxial films. The 56nm thick-PZT films deposited at $650^{\circ}C$ exhibit a remanent polarization $(p_r)$ of $80{\mu}C/cm^2$ and a coercive field $(E_c)$ of 160kV/cm.

Bismuth layered structure ferroelectric thin films, $Bi_4$$Ti_3$$O_{12}$ / (BTO) and Nb-doped BTO (BTN) were prepared on the Pt(111)/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si(100) substrates by a sol-gel route. We investigated the Nb-doping effect on the grain orientation and ferroelectric properties. $Nb^{5+}$ ion substitution for $Ti^{4+}$ ion in perovskite layers of BTO decreased the degree of c-axis orientation and increased the remanent polarization (2Pr). The fatigue resistance of Nb-doped BTO thin film was shown to be superior to that of BTO, and the leakage current of Nb-doped BTO thin film was decreased about 1 order of magnitude compared with BTO. The improvement of ferroelectric properties with $Nb^{5+}$ doping in BTO could be attributed to the changes in space charge densities and grain orientation in the thin film.
RuO$_3$ thin films were deposited on Si(100) substrate at low temperatures by hot-wall metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. Bis(cyclopentadienyl) ruthenium, Ru$(C_5H_5)_2$, was used as the precursor RuO$_2$single phase was obtained at a low deposition temperature of 25$0^{\circ}C$ and the crystallinity of RuO$_2$thin films improved with increasing deposition temperature. RuO$_2$thin films grow perpendicularly to the substrate and show the columnar structure. The grain size of RuO$_2$films drastically increases with increasing the deposition temperature. The resistivity of the 180 nm-thick RuO$_2$thin films deposited at 27$0^{\circ}C$ was 136 $\mu$$\Omega$-cm and increased with decreasing film thickness. SrBi$_2Ta_2O_4$ thin films deposited by rf magnetron sputtering on the RuO$_2$bottom electrodes showed a fatigue-free characteristics up to ~10$^10$ cycles under 5 V bipolar square pulses and the remanent polarization, 2 P$_r$ and the coercive field, 2 E, were 5.2$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 76.0 kV/cm, respectively, for an applied voltage of 5 V The leakage current density was about 7.0$\times$10$^{-6}$ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 150 kV/cm.

$Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ (BIT) and $(Bi_{3.25}La_{0.75})(Ti_{2.97}V_{0.03})O_{12}$ (BLTV) thin films were deposited on ITO/glass substrates by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using ultrasonic spraying. After deposition of the films in oxygen atmosphere for 30 min, the films were heated by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) method, especially direct insertion, at various temperatures. The films were investigated on phase formation temperature, microstructure and electrical properties. From x-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, the perovskite phase formation temperature of BLTV thin film was about $600^{\circ}C$ which was lower than that of BIT, $650^{\circ}C$. The leakage current of the BLTV thin film was measured to be $1.52\times 10^{-9}$A/$cm^2$ at an applied voltage of 1 V. The remanent polarization (Pr) and coercive field (Ec) values of the BLTV film deposited at $650^{\circ}C$ were $5.6\muC/cm^2$ and 96.5 kV/cm, respectively.

Thickness dependence of crystallographic orientation of diol based sol-gel derived PZT(52/48) films on dielectric and piezoelectric properties was investigated The thickness of each layer by one time spinning was about 0.2 $\mu\textrm{m}$, and crack-free films was successfully deposited on 4 inches Pt/Ti/SiO$_2$/Si substrates by 0.5 mol solutions in the range from 0.2 $\mu\textrm{m}$ to 3.8 $\mu\textrm{m}$. Excellent P-E hysteresis curves were achieved without pores or any defects between interlayers. As the thickness increased , the (111) preferred orientation disappeared from 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ to 3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ region, and the orientation of films became random above 3 $\mu\textrm{m}$. Dielectric constants and longitudinal piezoelectric coefficient d$\_$33/, measured by pneumatic method were saturated around the value of about 1400 and 300 pC/N respectively above the thickness of 0.8 7m. A micromachined piezoelectric cantilever have been fabricated using 0.8 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness PZT (52/48) films. PZT films were prepared on Si/SiN$\_$x/SiO$_2$/Ta/Pt substrate and fabricated unimorph cantilever consist of a 0.8 fm thick PZT layer on a SiNx elastic supporting layer, which becomes vibration when ac voltage is applied to the piezoelectric layer. The dielectric constant (at 100 kHz) and remanent polarization of PZT films were 1050 and 25 ${\mu}$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively. Electromechanical characteristics of the micromachined PZT cantilever in air with 200-600 $\mu\textrm{m}$ lengths are discussed in this presentation.

The influence of the concentration of precursor solution and the number of solution coatings on the densification of the $Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3$ (PZT) thick films was studied. PZT powder and PZT precursor solution were prepared by3 sol-gel method and PZT thick films were fabricated by the screen-printing method on the alumina substrates. The composition of powder and precursor solution were PZT(70/30) and PZT(30/70), respectively. The PZT precursor solution was spin-coated on the PZT thick films. A concentration of a coating solution was 0.5 to 2.0 mol/L[M] and the number of coating was repeated from 0 to 6. The XRD patterns of all PZT thick films shelved typical perovskite polycrystalline structure. The porosity of the thick films was decreased with increasing the number of coatings and 6-time coated films with 1.5 M showed the dense microstructure and thickness of about $60{\mu}m$. The relative dielectric constant of the PZT thick film was increased with increasing the number of solution coatings and the thick films with 1.5 M, 6-time coated showed the 698. The remanent polarization the 1.5 M and 6-time coated PZT thick films was $38.3{\mu}C/cm^2$.

Piezoelectric powder with the composition of PbTiO$_3$-PbZrO$_3$-Pb(Mn$\_$1/3/Nb$\_$2/3/)O$_3$ and small particle size of 0.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ was investigated for low-temperature firing of PZT thick films. PbTiO$_3$-PbZrO$_3$-Pb(Mn$\_$1/3/Nb$\_$2/3)O$_3$ ceramics showed dense microstructure and superior piezoelectric properties, electromechanical coupling factor (k$\_$p/) of 0.501 and piezoelectric constant (d$\_$33/) of 224. The PZT paste was made of the powder and organic vehicles, and screen-printed on Pt(450nm)/YSZ(110nm)/SiO$_2$(300nm)/Si substrates and fired at 800∼900$^{\circ}C$. Any interface reaction between the PZT thick film and the bottom electrode was not observed in the PZT thick films. The PZT thick film fired at 800$^{\circ}C$ showed moderate electrical properties, the remanent polarization(p$\_$r/) of 16.0 ${\mu}$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$, the coercive field(E$\_$c/) of 36.7 ㎸/cm, and dielectric constant ($\varepsilon$$\_$r/) of 531. Low-temperature sinterable piezoelectric composition and high activity of fine particles reduced the sintering temperature of the thick film. This PZT thick film could be utilized for piezoelectric microactuators or microsensors that require Si micromachining technology.
