  • The presence of blue stragglers pose challenges to standard stellar evolution theory, in the sense that explaining their presence demands a complex interplay between stellar evolution and cluster dynamics. In the meantime, mass transfer in binary systems and stellar collisions are widely studied as a blue straggler formation channel. We explore properties of the Galactic open clusters where blue stragglers are found, in attempting to estimate the relative importance of these two favored processes, by comparing them with those resulting from open clusters in which blue stragglers are absent as of now. Unlike previous studies which require a sophisticated process in understanding the implication of the results, this approach is straightforward and has resulted in a supplementary supporting evidence for the current view on the blue straggler formation mechanism. Our main findings are as follows: (1) Open clusters in which blue stragglers are present have a broader distribution with respect to the Z-axis pointing towards the North Galactic Pole than those in which blue stragglers are absent. The probability that two distributions with respect to the Z-axis are drawn from the same distribution is 0.2%. (2) Average values of $log_10(t)$ of the clusters with blue stragglers and those without blue stragglers are $8.58{\pm}0.232$ and $7.52{\pm}0.285$, respectively. (3) The clusters with blue stragglers tend to be relatively redder than the others, and are distributed broader in colors. (4) The clusters with blue stragglers are likely brighter than those without blue stragglers. (5) Finally, blue stragglers seem to form in condensed clusters rather than simply dense clusters. Hence, we conclude that mass transfer in binaries seems to be a relatively important physical mechanism of the generation of blue stragglers in open clusters, provided they are sufficiently old.

  • Knowledge-based exporting companies in Korea have reached a stage to develop new technological innovation and to pioneer new markets. But, developing new technologies and launching new products require an enormous sum of money for Research and Development(R&D) and there is still uncertainty in technological development and markets. Therefore, through open technological innovation, they are encouraged to actively use external technological sources and ideas. They also need to enhance the efficiency of the relatively little R&D investment. In this paper, firstly, it conducts a precedent study on the concept and influence factors of knowledge-based exporting companies and open technological innovation. Secondly, it sets a study model and estimates a regression coefficient to analyze the influence factors of open technological innovation of knowledge-based exporting companies which are using external resources on the process of innovation. Through case study and empirical analysis, we are going to find the implication of open technological innovation and prepare the way of the innovation for the knowledge-based exporting companies. According to the empirical analysis, variables such as firm size, processing degree, product life, patent registration, maintaining internal security didn't have positive effects on open innovation performance. On the other hand, research capability and market preoccupancy had positive effects. Therefore, to succeed in open innovation, knowledge-based exporting companies not only need to secure research capability through open innovation, but also need to preoccupy the market through commercialization of developed product.

  • Oil-film flow visualizations and three-dimensional flow measurements have been conducted in the downstream region of a butterfly-type valve used in air-conditioning systems, with the variation of a disk open angle. The flow visualizations in the flow symmetry plane show that there are a pair of counter-rotating separation/recirculation zones as wall as two jet-like near-wall flows. These flow disturbances are strongly depends on the disk open angle. Based on the flow visualization, a qualitative flow model is suggested in the near-field and downstream region of the valve disk. For a small disk open angle, the mean velocities and turbulent intensities have relatively small values in the near-field of the valve disk, but they do not show uniform distributions even in some downstream region. With an increment of the disk open angle, mean velocity variations and turbulent intensities are greatly increased in the immediate downstream region, but uniform distributions are quickly resumed as departing from the valve disk. The mass flow rate remains nearly constant for the disk open angles less than 30 degrees, meanwhile it strongly depends on the disk open angles between 45 and 75 degrees. The pressure loss is found to be about zero for the disk open angles less than 45 degrees, but is substantially increased for those larger than 75 degrees.

  • The cross flow turbine attracts more and more attention for its relatively wide operating range and simple structure. In this study, a novel type of micro cross flow turbine is developed for application to a step in an irrigational channel. The head of the turbine is only H=4.3m and the turbine inlet channel is open ducted type, which has barely been studied. The efficiency of the turbine with inlet open duct channel is relatively low. Therefore, a guide nozzle on the turbine inlet is attached to improve the performance of the turbine. The guide nozzle shapes are investigated to find the best shape for the turbine. The guide nozzle plays an important role on directing flow at the runner entry, and it also decreases the negative torque loss by reducing the pressure difference in Region 1. There is 12.5% of efficiency improvement by attaching a well shaped guide nozzle on the turbine inlet.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the radiographic images of the condylar head in clinically normal subjects and the TMJ patients using standardized projection technique. 45 subjects who have not clinical evidence of TMJ problems and 96 patients who have the clinical evidence of TMJ problems were evaluated, but the patients who had fracture, trauma and tumor on TMJ area were discluded in this study. For the evaluation of radiographic images, the author has observed the condylar head positions in closed mouth and 2.54㎝ open mouth position taken by the standardized transcranial oblique lateral projection technique. The results were as follows: 1. In closed mouth position, the crest of condylar head took relatively posterior position to the deepest point of the glenoid fossa in 8.9 % of the normals and in 26.6% of TMJ patients. 2. In 2.54㎝ open mouth position, condylar head took relatively posterior position to the articular eminence in 2.2% of TMJ patients and 39.6% of the normals. 3. In open mouth position, the horizontal distance from the deepest point of the glenoid fossa to the condyla head was 13.96㎜ in the normals and 10.68㎜ in TMJ patients. 4. The distance of true movement of condyalr head was 13.49㎜ in the normals and l0.27㎜ in TMJ patients. 5. The deviation of mandible in TMJ patients was slightly greater than that of the normals.

  • We extracted narrow open water streams from JERS-1 SAR images of the Amazon rain forest. The extracted range of these streams were almost comparable to a high level extraction of the same streams from near-IR images of JERS-1 VNIR data notwithstanding that these features in SAR images show the strong dependence of the observation angle. Large water bodies are relatively easy to extract from JERS-1 SAR images, as they tend to appear as very dark areas; but streams whose width is nearly equal to or less than the spatial resolution no longer appear as very dark features. By using strong scatterers distributed sparsely along the radar facing sides of the streams, we can successfully estimate approximate ranges of waterways and then extract relatively dark line-like features within these ranges.

  • OpenGL ES(OpenGL for Embedded System) 2.0 is one of the most widely used 3D graphics API(application progrma interface) standard for smart phones and tablet PCs at this time. During programming with this API, they prefer desktop environment rather than the target mobile environment, which has relatively low computing power. Thus, we need to emulate the OpenGL ES 2.0 API on the desktop PCs, where only OpenGL API libraries are available. In this paper, we present technical difficulties and their solutions to emulate OpenGL ES 2.0 on desktop PCs. Our final implementation of OpenGL ES 2.0 emulation library works on desktop PCs and passed over more than 96% of the official CTS(conformance test suites) to prove the correctness of our implementation. Additionally, for the commercially available benchmark programs, our implementation shows equivalent execution speeds to the previous commercial OpenGL ES 2.0 implementations.

  • This study analyzed the type, subject and open level of research data in the field of library and information science field shared by Figshare, and statistically analyzed the characteristics of data with relatively high recyclability. The results of the analysis showed that datasets and papers were most common data types, and open access and research data were the most common keywords of data, and that 70% of the data were published in a form that can not be processed mechanically such as pdf. As a result of analysis of the relationship between characteristics of research data and degree of sharing, open access areas such as APC (Article Processing Charge) were found to be most common in the subject. However in data type, gray literature such as paper found to be highly utilized rather than dataset.

  • Nowadays, an open-market which provides sellers and consumers a cyber place for making a transaction over the Internet has emerged as a prevalent sales channel because of convenience and relatively low price it provides. However, there are few studies about CRM strategies based on VIP consumers for an open-market even though understanding VIP consumers' behaviors in open-markets is important to increase its revenue. Therefore, we propose CRM strategies targeted on VIP customers, obtained by analyzing the transaction data of VIP customers from an open-market using data mining techniques. To that end, we first defined the VIP customers in terms of recency, frequency and monetary (RFM) values. Then, we used data mining techniques to develop a model which best classifies and identifies infiluential factors customers into VIPs or non-VIPs. We also validate each of promotion types in the aspect of effectiveness and identify association rules among the types. Then, based on the findings from these experiments, we propose strategies from the perspectives of CRM dimensions for the open-market to thrive.
