The evaluation of the quality of residential environment, in the planning process, is very important. If the environmental quality can be measured on the design scheme itself, it would be possible not only to estimate the residential environment, but also to apply the results of measuring in the planning and design of new residential projects. This study aimed at estimating the relative weights of the constituents of a residential environment by AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process). For the detailed analysis of relative weights, the respondent of survey were composed of two different groups-dwellers and experts. The findings are as follows (:) 1) the relative weights of residential constituents were different between the respondent groups; 2) the relative weights of residential constituents were different according to socio-demographic characteristics; and 3) for the practical application of estimation results of the relative weights, the relation between residential performance constituents and physical design elements should be considered.
A trial was conducted to evaluate the level of wheat substituted for corn in a traditional corn-soy diet and the xylanase supplementation effect on the growth performance and nutrient digestion of broiler chickens. This experiment was a randomized design with a 4${\times}$2 factorial arrangement with four levels of wheat substitution and two levels of enzyme inclusion in the diet. Wheat replaced 0, 25, 50 or 100% corn with or without 1 g/kg xylanase supplementation in iso-nitrogenous and iso-calorific experimental diets. The results showed that in the growing period, broilers attained the highest (p<0.05) body weight gain, feed intake, and relative small intestine weight when wheat was substituted at 25% for corn. The relative caecum weight increased (p<0.05) linearly with increasing levels of wheat substitution for corn. However, during the finishing period and entire experimental period from 0 to 6 weeks, no significant difference was shown in the growth performance among all treatments. Xylanase inclusion significantly improved the body weight gain, fat availability (p<0.01) and diet metabolisable energy (p<0.1) but decreased (p<0.05) the relative GI tract weight during the growing period. The digesta viscosity of 6-week old broilers was also decreased (p<0.05). It appears that wheat substituted for corn did not affect the growth performance, nutrient digestion, and the digesta viscosity of chickens. It is acceptable to completely substitute wheat for corn. Xylanase supplementation improved performance.
Growth information of crops is essential for efficient control of greenhouse environment. However, a few non-invasive and continuous monitoring methods of crop growth has been developed. A computer vision system with a CCD camera and a frame grabber was developed to conduct non-destructive and intact plant growth analyses. The developed system was evaluated by conducting the growth analysis of lettuce. A linear model that explains the relationship between the relative crop coverage by the crop canopy and dry weight of a lettuce was presented. It was shown that this measurement method could estimate the dry weight from the relative crop coverage by the crop canopy. The result also showed that there was a high correlation between the projected top leaf area and the dry weight of the lettuce.
The purpose of this study is the development, application and assessment of probability and artificial neural network methods for assessing landslide susceptibility in a chosen study area. As the basic analysis tool, a Geographic Information System (GIS) was used for spatial data management. A probability method was used for calculating the rating of the relative importance of each factor class to landslide occurrence, For calculating the weight of the relative importance of each factor to landslide occurrence, an artificial neural network method was developed. Using these methods, the landslide susceptibility index was calculated using the rating and weight, and a landslide susceptibility map was produced using the index. The results of the landslide susceptibility analysis, with and without weights, were confirmed from comparison with the landslide location data. The comparison result with weighting was better than the results without weighting. The calculated weight and rating can be used to landslide susceptibility mapping.
Quartz porphyry (QP) on the contents of mineral tissues of male common finch by feeding the basal diet (Control group) containing 3.0% QP (QP group) for 14 days was studied. The relative weight (mg/10 g body weight) of kidney and gizzard in the QP group were higher and lower than in the control group, respectively. However, the relative weight of liver and heart were not significantly different in the both groups. The mineral contents of liver, kidney, heart and gizzard were significantly higher in common finch fed with the diet containing quartz porphyry than that of control diet. The major minerals of these tissues were P, Ca and Fe.
Effect of the butanol fraction of Astragali Radix (BFAR) on the humoral immune response were investigated in ICR mice. Mice were divided into 4 groups and BFAR at doses of 5,25 and 125 mg/kg were administered orally to mice daily for 3 weeks, and the normal animals were given vehicle. The results of this study are summarized as follows; the relative weight of spleen was markedly increased by BFAR treatment, compared with that in normal mice. However, the body weight gain and the relative weight of liver were not affected. Splenic plaque forming cells and hemagglutination titers to sheep red blood cells, and the secondary IgG antibody response to bovine serum albumin were also dose-dependently enhanced by BFAR treatment. In these mice, BFAR did not increase serum alanine aminotransferase total protein, sect albumin and albumin/globulin ratio when compared with those in normal mice. Thus, these findings indicate that BFAR significantly enhances humoral immune response to antigen in concentrations that do not affected liver function.

Feeding is an important aspect of insect nutrition which in turn supports growth, development, reproduction and survival. The impact of quantitative feeding on nutritional parameters of fifth instar Antheraea mylitta larvae was studied by providing fresh leaves of Terminalia tomentosa for 1 to 4 times a day. All the parameters improved upon providing fresh diets more times over the single diet (1FD). The absolute body weight increased with increase in number of feeds/day significantly (P<0.001). While the maximum weight recorded was 29.61 g in 1FD, the respective weights for two feeds/day (2FD), three feeds/day (3FD) and four feeds/day (4FD) were 39.41 g, 40.63 g and 42.66 g respectively. Feeding period and instar duration were declined (P<0.001) and survival increased significantly (P<0.001) upon increase in the number of diets. Nutritional indices like ingestion, digestion, relative consumption rate (RCR), relative growth rate (RGR) and gain in body weight increased significantly with the increase in number of feeds/day, but approximate digestibility (AD) and efficiency of conversion of ingested food (ECI) declined, while efficiency of conversion of digested food (ECD) did not change.
The purpose of this study was to know the effect of aquatic-exercise on muscle atrophy which induced by steroid injection. The forty-eight Sparague-Dawley adult male rats were assigned to the 4 groups; Group I (distilled water injection), Group II (steroid injection), Group III (distilled water injection with aquatic exercise), Group IV (steroid injection with aquatic exercise). We observed their body weight, muscle relative weight, myofibrillar protein content. The results of this study were as follows; 1. Body weight was decreased rapidly on steroid injection groups in comparison with distilled water injection groups after 2 weeks (p<0.01), but that was almost recovered as before test on steroid injection group with aquatic exercise. 2. The relative weight of gastrocnemius muscles was decreased on steroid injection groups in comparison with distilled water injection groups. however, Decrease of it on steroid injection group with aquatic exercise for steroid injection group was fallen. There was very significant difference after 4 weeks (p<0.01). 3. Myofibrillar protein content of gastrocnemius muscles was decreased on steroid injection groups in comparison with distilled water injection groups. however, Decrease of it on steroid injection group with aquatic exercise for steroid injection group was fallen. There was significant difference after 4 weeks (p<0.05).
This study investigated the effects of prestressing force on the natural frequency of concrete beams considering changes in the self-weight of the beam. For this, a finite element formulation was derived to account for the increase in the stiffness of a beam-tendon system due to the axial force and deformation induced by prestressing of the tendon. The developed finite element formulation was validated with the data obtained in laboratory experiments. The experimental natural frequencies of the small prestressed concrete (PSC) beam specimens were consistent with those obtained using the proposed method. The first natural frequency increased almost linearly as the prestressing force increased. The proposed method was then applied to four actual PSC bridges typically employed in the field. Different from the laboratory specimens, the first natural frequencies of the actual PSC bridges barely changed or increased with increasing prestressing force. The results of an analytical parametric study showed that the increase in the natural frequency strongly depended on the magnitude of the prestressing force relative to the total weight of the structure. Thus, the variation in the natural frequencies of the actual PSC bridges with high total weight relative to the prestressing force was negligible due to the application of the prestressing force.
A series of laboratory tests was carried out for analyzing compaction characteristics of hydraulic fill soils(or hydraulically filled soils). Hydraulic fill soils were settled down by the weight of soil particle itself in water and consolidated by the extraction of water from the soil structures. Water content and dry unit weight were observed as the depth of sedimentation and consolidation soil. It was found from the result that the optimum water content $(W_{cpt})$ of the maximum unit weight$(\gamma_{dmax})$ is higher than that of laboratory compaction test(KS F 2312 A method). It was due to difference in compaction energy and compaction effect between two methods. And the maximum dry unit of hydraulic fill soil is smaller than that of laboratory compaction test. Especially in terms of compaction effect, the maximum relative compaction degrees$(R_{cmax})$ of Seamangum dredged sand, river sand and mixed sand, half and half of dredged and river sands, were 85%, 91% and 86%, respectively. It means that the compaction effect can be $85\sim91%$ of the maximum unit weight in laboratory compaction test.
