  • Bond between reinforcing bar and surrounding concrete is supposed to transfer load safely in the process of design of reinforced concrete structures. Bond failure of reinforcing bar generally take place by splitting of the concrete cover as bond force between concrete and reinforcing bars exceeds the confinement of the concrete cover and reinforcement. In this study, to evaluate bond strength of high relative rib area bars, beam-end bond and splice beam specimens are tested and the results are discussed. Higher rib height bars when bars are confined showed higher bond strength than lower rib height bars.

  • Given the structure of Korean mountains, it is more appropriate to apply the relative elevation method than the absolute elevation method. However, so far there were not suitable quantitative methodologies to analyze relative elevation, these analytical concepts were difficult to be utilized in urban environmental planning. This study suggested three methods for analyzing relative elevation, and one method for setting the analytical scope of relative elevation by calculating terrain relief. The results showed that the procedure considering 500m radius of each point and standardizing to 30% of the 7th height ridge was the most effective method to extract the local topography. This methodology is the quantitative tool to be able to conserve local important hills and ridges, and apply to fields of urban environmental planning and ecological restoration, especially urban ecological network.

  • The relative density seems to be important as a factor of controlling the physical properties in the case of cohesionless soil ground as sand. Therefore, the study is more important about the method for reappearing the same relative density when the specimen of shearing test is to be produced or the model test of ground is to be made. In this study, the apparatus making use of the multiple sieving pluviation method - one of the reappearance of relative density - could be made. Using this apparatus, tests were practiced varying the factors such as the size of sieve mesh and the number of sieve, the amount of falling discharge, the falling height etc. about the standard sand in Jumunjin and Hadong sand. When laboratory test is performed by the cohensionless soil , it presents the method for reappearing of the relative density in field.

  • Impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system is one of the most promising corrosion protection methods. The Effect of ICCP system can be changed at diverse conditions. Particularly, temperature and relative humidity plays a crucial role in CP (Cathodic Protection) effect. Thus, in this study, the influence of temperature and relative humidity on concrete specimens was investigated. Specimens were concrete slab type with a base of $400mm{\times}400mm$ and height of 70mm. To enhance the effect of CP system, seawater was used as an electrolyte. Used anode for ICCP system was mixed metal oxide (MMO) titanium. Test factors were natural potential, CP potential, CP current, and 4-hour depolarization potential. From this study, it could be confirm that CP potential and current were highly influenced by temperature and relative humidity.

  • The use of higher strength materials frequently requires the change of design provisions. Following to the previous researches, high strength reinforcing bars have a weak point about the development and splice length. Based on the previous research about high relative rib area, bond strength between reinforcing bars and concrete can be improved by the control of rib height and spacing. But, the code provisions do not include these specific shape of reinforcing bars. So, the purpose of this paper is to determine the effect of relative rib area to the bond strength. This paper describes the experiment and analysis of 5 beam-spliced specimens containing D25 with relative rib areas ranging from 0.073 to 0.17. The test results are also analyzed to make a design formula about the calculation of splice length on the consideration of relative rib area.

  • On the basis of plasticity theory for porous metal, an analysis of ring compression is carried out, employing the upper bound approach. The plastic flowability and the neutral radius of porous metal ring are calculated and deformation characteristics of power forging are obtained from this result. The experiments on ring compression are carried out for sintered iron porous metal with various relative densities under various friction conditions. A good agreement is observed between the shapes of the calculated curves and the experimental results from the ring compression test. The friction factor for powder metal forming can be determined not only from the relationship between reduction in height and reduction in internal diameter but independently from the relationship between reduction in height and relative density, if the initial relative density is known.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyse the effect of ocean weather factors on shipments of swimming crab. We use the data of data portal and ocean weather factors (mean wind velocity, mean atmospheric pressure, mean relative humidity, mean air temperature, mean water temperature, mean maximum wave height, mean significant wave height, maximum significant wave height, maximum wave height, mean wave period, maximum wave period). We did statistical analysis using Poisson regression analysis and negative binomial regression analysis. As the result of study, important factors influential in the shipments of swimming crab turn out to be mean wind velocity, mean atmospheric pressure, mean relative humidity, mean water temperature, maximum wave height, mean wave period and maximum wave period. the shipments of swimming crab increases as mean wind velocity, mean atmospheric pressure, mean relative humidity, mean water temperature increases or mean wave period increase. However, as maximum wave height, maximum wave period decreases, the shipment of swimming crab increases.

  • Anthropometric measurements, particularly weight and height, are the most commonly employed measures of nutritional status in epidemiologic studies because of their simplicity and ease of collection. However, the usefulness of the anthropometric indicator is controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of the anthropometric indicator to represent the nutritional status of individual adult in epidemiologic studies. In order to evaluate the usefulness of the anthropometric indicator to represent the nutritional status of individual, the validity in terms of sensitivity and specificity of anthropometric indicators was estimated by comparing the biochemical indicators to the reference indicators. The relative validity of dietary intake indicators was also measured for comparison between the three indicators of biochemistry, anthropometry and dietary assessment. The results showed that sensitivity of weight and height and dietary indicators were 16.7 an 50.5, respectively comparing the reference value of 100 as biochemical indicator in identifying anemic adults. Whereas the sensitivity of weight and height and dietary indicators were 63.6 and 36.4, respectively comparing reference value of 100 in identifying hyperlipidemic individuals(obesity). In conclusion, the validity of weight and height is much lower than that of biochemical indicator, burt weight and height still has some usefulness in identifying anemic individuals. Especially, it is more useful in identifying hyperlipidemic individual adults thant in identifying anemic individuals.

  • For simple estimation of pasture production and nutritive value in relation to height of orchardgrass (Ductylis glomumtu L.), the experiment was carried out in a pasture mixture dominated by orchardgrass. The samples of grasses were harvested at the heights of about 30, 40, 50, 70 and 90 cm at the first harvest under different percentage of 100 (grass coverage): 0 (bareland), 80 : 20, 60 : 40, 40 : 60 and 20 : 80, respectively. As the height of orchardgrass was increased, fresh and dry matter (DM) yield were significantly increased. The regression equation between DM yield (Y) and height (X) was Y=ll. 5390 X- 146.60 (r=O. 9414 * * ). Also the higher bareland, the lower pasture production was observed. As the plant height at the first harvest was increased, the contents of crude (C) protein, C. fat, C. ash and relative feed value were markedly decreased. On the other hand, the contents of C. fiber, NFE, NDF. ADF, cellulose and lignin were significantly increased, respectively. The higher height, the lower DM digestibility was found. The equation between digestibility (Y) and height (X) was Y=- 0.2193 X+ 80.99 (r = - 0.9862**). Considering DM yield, digestibility and crude protein, the optimum height of orchardgrass at the first harvest was 59 to 67crn for better pasture production and nutritive value.

  • Many coastal engineering designs utilize empirical formulas containing the Equivalent Deep-water Wave Height (EDWH), which is normally given a priori. However, no studies have explicitly discussed a method for determining the EDWH and the resulting design wave heights (DEWH) under irregular wave conditions. Unfortunately, it has been the case in many design practices that the EDWH is incorrectly estimated by dividing the Shallow-water Wave Height (SWH) at the structural position with its corresponding shoaling coefficient of regular wave. The present study reexamines the relationship between the Shallow-water Wave Height (SWH) at the structural position and its corresponding EDWH. Then, a new procedure is proposed to facilitate the correct estimation of EDWH. In this procedure, the EDWH and DEWH are determined differently according to the wave propagation model used to estimate the SWH. For this, Goda's original method for nonlinear irregular wave deformation is extended to produce values for linear shoaling. Finally, exemplary calculations are performed to assess the possible errors caused by a misuse of the wave height calculation procedure. The relative errors with respect to the correct values could exceed 20%, potentially leading to a significant under-design of coastal or harbor structures in some cases.
