  • Corrosion behavior of steel reinforcements embedded in concrete containing various chloride ion concentrations was investigated by an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS). Chloride ions were introduced into the concrete by dissolving the NaCl and $CaCl_2$ in the water with a given weight of cement. Based on the impedance parameters measured by EIS, more complete equivalent circuit, a schematic physical model, and the mechanism of concrete reinforcement corrosion were suggested. By the implement of experimental impedance parameters obtained from the model with corresponding CNLS-fitting data, the corrosion rate of steel reinforcement with chloride ions could be predicted.

  • In order to explore the stable anchoring conditions of coal side under the mining disturbance of soft section coal pillar in Wangcun Coal Mine of Chenghe Mining Area, the distribution model of the anchoring support pressure at the coal pillar side was established, using the strain-softening characteristics of the coal to study the distribution law of anchoring coal side support pressure. The analytical solution for the reinforcement anchorage stress in the coal pillar side was derived with the inelastic state mechanical model. The results show that the deformation angle of the roadway side and roof increases with the roof subsidence due to the mining influence at the adjacent working face, the plastic deformation zone extends to the depth of the coal side, and the increase of anchorage stress can effectively control the roof subsidence and further deterioration of plastic zone. The roadway height and the peak support pressure have a certain influence on the anchorage stress, the required anchorage stress of the coal side rises with the roadway height and the peak support pressure. The required anchorage stress of the coal pillar side decreases as the cohesion between the coal seam and the roof and floor and the anchor length increases. Then, applied the research result to Wangcun coal mine in Chenghe mining area, the design of anchor cable reinforcement support was proposed for the section of coal pillars side that has been anchored and deformed, which achieved great results and effectively controlled the convergence and deformation of the side, providing a safety guarantee for the roadway excavation and mining.

  • Shear friction strength model of concrete was proposed to explain the direct friction mechanism at the concrete interfaces intersecting two structural elements. The model was derived from a mechanism analysis based on the upper-bound theorem of concrete plasticity considering the effect of transverse reinforcement and applied axial loads on the shear strength at concrete interfaces. Concrete was modelled as a rigid-perfectly plastic material obeying modified Coulomb failure criteria. To allow the influence of concrete type and maximum aggregate size on the effectiveness strength of concrete, the stress-strain models proposed by Yang et al. and Hordijk were employed in compression and tension, respectively. From the conversion of these stress-strain models into rigidly perfect materials, the effectiveness factor for compression, ratio of effective tensile strength to compressive strength and angle of concrete friction were then mathematically generalized. The proposed shear friction strength model was compared with 91 push-off specimens compiled from the available literature. Unlike the existing equations or code equations, the proposed model possessed an application of diversity against various parameters. As a result, the mean and standard deviation of the ratios between experiments and predictions using the present model are 0.95 and 0.15, respectively, indicating a better accuracy and less variation than the other equations, regardless of concrete type, the amount of transverse reinforcement, and the magnitude of applied axial stresses.

  • Rip-off failure and Debonding failure were commonly reported premature failure modes. The main reasons of premature failure in RC beams bonded with FRP were strengthening length and the reinforcement ratio. in this study, On the basis of premature failure mechanism in RC beams bonded with FRP, premature failure criteria were proposed. Also It was verified that Rip-off failure and Debonding failure occured according to premature failure criteria

  • A reducing bearing angle theory for bond of ribbed reinforcing bars to concrete is proposed to simulate experimental observation. Analytical expressions to determine bond strength for splitting and pullout failure are derived, where the bearing angle is a key variable. As bearing angle is reduced, splitting strength decreases and shearing strength increases. The proposed reducing bearing angle theory is effective to simulate damage of the deformed bar-concrete interface and understand bond mechanism of ribbed reinforcing steel in concrete structures.

  • The creep behavior and failure mechanism of the 30 vol% hot-pressed $SiC_t/Si_3N_4$ ceramic composite was experimentally investigated at $1200^{\circ}C$ and at various stress levels in air. The creep threshold stress for zero creep rate after 100 hr was found to be approximately 60 MPa. The stress exponent was estimated to be n~1, which suggests that fiber-reinforcement reduced the stress sensitivity of the HPSN matrix with the stress exponent of 2. The tertiary stage leading to creep rupture was found at 250 MPa but was very short. The microstructure of the crept specimen showed random fiber fracture and no matrix cracking. Interfacial debonding was absent.

  • In recent years, carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) has been widely used for reinforcement of damaged concrete structures. However, the fundamental mechanisms of load transfer and load-resistance for reinforced concrete beams retrofitted by CFRP are not fully understood. Acoustic emission(AE) technique was used to evaluate the characteristics of damage progress and the failure mechanism of reinforced concrete beams retrofitted by CFRP. In this study, three-paint-bending test has been carried out to investigate the AE characteristics of four specimens. The results show that the AE technique is a valuable tool to study the failure mechanism of reinforced concrete beams retrofitted by CFRP.

  • The stress transmission mechanism in pretensioned concrete beams, though very interesting from an economical point of view, is very complex, integrating various phenomenons such as sliding, bond, bursting. For long the complexity of this mechanism has led engineers to provide a massive rectangular anchorage zone at each end of the beam. The necessity of using such a concrete reinforcement is certainly unquestionable in post-tensioned beams. However in pretensioned elements the stresses induced in concrete in the anchorage zone are smaller than in post-tensioned elements. In this article the stress field in the end zone is calculated numerically and from this analysis the possible reduction of the cross-section of the anchorage block is examined.

  • In this study, a numerical simulation that can effectively predict the interfacial fracture behavior in repaired structures is developed using the axial deformation link elements. In repaired structures, concrete and interface are considered as quais-brittle materials, and steel plate as a repair material and reinforcement are modeled as elasto-plastic materials. The behavior of repaired reinforced concrete structures under flexural loading conditions is numerically simulated, and compaired with experimental results. The strengthening effect according to the length and thickness of the repair material is studied and rip-off, debonding and rupture failure mechanism of interface between substrate and repair materials are detected. It is shown that the interface properties affect on the mechanical behavior of repaired structures. Therefore, the developed numerical method using axial deformation link elements can be used for determining the strengthening effects and failure mechanism of repaired structures.

  • Zinc ion containing thiuram type accelerator zinc dibutyldithiocarbamate (ZDBC) was compared to other thiuram type accelerators (tetramethylthiuram disulfide (TMTD) and dipentamethylenethiuram tetrasulfide (DPTT)) in silica filled natural rubber (NR) compound upon vulcanization and mechanical properties (modulus, tensile strength, and elongation %). ZDBC added compound showed the fastest cure time (t10) and the highest reinforcement index (R.I.) among them and showed a marching behavior. The mechanism was reviewed and a new mechanism was proposed.
